  • at 18 sec. in, he was very lucky when he got both sticks in nuetral..

  • that seems pretty intense, cool though

  • never could get t hang of them darn things

  • I remember, when I was a kid, my step dad shifting a 4 x 4 in an old 1951 Diamond T logger with 250 Cummins. He often would put his left arm through the steering wheel to keep the truck going in the right direction while shifting the brownie and the main at the same time. Quite a trucker he was.

  • Nice shifting... good to see a young guy jammin' gears like an old-timer!

  • Sweet video and looks like he loves the twins, thanks for sharing.

  • ...thx for the video, keep the good work

  • Nice job, it would have been better if you had 80,000 lbs on tr, you are driven a sports car whith out the lbs!!!!!!! good job no mater what, two sticks are a thing of the past, I hate getten old, thanks for staying old school!!!!!

  • Never mind I get it now what a pain, not to mention that bitch is old and weathered nice driving dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This guys the man.I still cant figure how that pattern gos.I watched it three times, and no power steering whoever said this guy wasn't good behind the wheel is crazy.

  • @dontstreetrace The main box has the round knob and it's a typical H pattern. The auxillary trans has the cat tail knob and it's pattern is a U. He isn't using 1st in the main. He took off in 2nd in the main and 1st in the aux, went through all 4 in the aux then shifted the main into 3rd and the aux into 2nd since going to 1st in the aux would be going slower. I wish all truck drivers were as good as this guy.

  • go head brother

  • Very good video,,,alll new truck drivers should learn this first !!!

  • That man knows what he's doing!!! Much respect.

  • thats fantastic , although i wouldnt like to have drive that in the city ,all day :)

  • Thats a fine job shifting, I wish you would have made it a longer video,I drove a 64 KW in 65 with a small cam 250 cummins for about 2 years from Lakeland,Fla. to Phoenix,Arz. and it had a 5x4 and was a mighty good truck.....wish I still owned it.thanks.

  • Mexicans I meant

  • You can tell that he is really not that good for the twin stick shifting. But then then again he ain't Mexican, only Medicaid can dominate that tranny. The 4x4, 5x4, all that kind of stuff.

  • 萌え☆

  • iight mane I see ya

  • Two sticks in a cabover is a pain in the ass!! Especially without power steering!!

  • It's a 71 with no p/s and a small cam 350. I sold it about a year ago...

  • holly shit. In city traffic shifting like that, i would of been the only trucker in tears hahahah. Nice job shifting man.

  • That dude has got some REAL college learning skills there.

  • Hey thanks for posting! So whats the right combo for getting into reverse?

  • Now that's a hell of a truck driver! And he's cute as hell, too! :)

  • That truckin' from the days when you knew you'd done a days work. Couldn't imagine driving that in heavy city traffic day in day out!!

  • Looks like he moves off with main (red knob) in 2nd gear and splitter (orange knob) in 1st. Then he shifts to 2-2, 2-3 and 2-4. And now the fun begins: a compound shift to get 3-2. Then couple of easy shifts from 3-2 to 3-3 and 3-4.

    Did I figure it right?

  • shit give me a 4&4 i show u how its really done with a cat

  • Right on man most guys dont even know what a 4 and 4 are. Nice shifting

  • Just a thought to make that shift easier for you. I haul silage all day with a C-70 Chevy so I get lots of stop and go loaded practice. Shift your main into the next gear double clutching and then you can just bop the auxilary down to under and shift up again. Shifting the way you are makes it more likely to mis a gear and let it get away from you. Just a suggestion that might make it shift smoother using one hand.

  • Twin sticks and strong arm steering. Don't make em like they used to.

  • cool! man

  • It drives differently with a full load, he skips a lot gears like the truck was empty.

  • Yeah he does handle it well.No power steering I take it.it looks like he has to really crank that wheel. Do you know when trucks stopped using the twin stick trans? This must be one of the last 1971? No?

  • @Dulein i run a bed truck that is 1994 t-800 and still has the 6-4 twin stick fun to drive

  • I used to haul steel back in the 60s with an Autocar with 250 Cumins and two fours and I loved it. Not only did it pull a set of b trains like they were nothing but when I had a long way to back up I had four reverse gears.

I started driving for a living in 1964 and power steering in trucks was rare. Hell the guy I learned from was 74 years old and he told me that heaters and defrosters were an option, as were turn signals.

  • Thats real Truck'in

  • OMG that's an awful lot of work.

  • I,m looking for a K-100 W/two tranys is that truck for sale ?

  • Nice truck. Does it have power strering?

  • What's the setup? a Spicer Main and a Brown-Lipe brownie?

  • that's impressive

  • is that by chance a bcII cummins

  • Take a big dick countryboy to shift them gears like that... Props

  • Pay no attention to the arm chair experts. Most of which couldn't get the damn truck into first/low to get started, let alone walk the gears going down the road. They wouldn't know a split if it walked up and kicked them in the nuts. I ran several twins, a million years ago. Happy to see some still do. The last one was a Pete 6x4 and a R model Mack 5X4. Twin sticks are about a lost art, as it were. They ain't an easy trucks to drive. But, they do separate the drivers from the wanna be's.

  • not everyone cut out to drive 4x4. he is doing quite well with it. it does take two hands to do it right.. good job.. a little more practice and u wil be a pro..

  • smal cam cummins 270 hp o 290 hp??

  • I could never drive like that, nice.

  • Keep giving er hell son and dont let nobody tell ya different ! My hats off to ya.

  • love the video!!!

  • I would like to see him take this up saxton hill north yorkshire England lol fully freighted

  • Hell im black and I can make a set of tooth pick's talk to ya my first truck had a 3408 and a 6&4

  • @enissefo We can do without the racist comments. The guy is having fun. Lighten up....live and let live. I wonder just how well YOU can shift? Probably not too well, I'd guess.

  • no

    power steering

  • cummins rule , i prefer 14 litre big cam , not been racist but to see a black guy drive this is wierd , total respect man you have skills , never crashed a cog

  • im black, and i was thinking the same thing. lol. he got some skills though

  • Hes like Jimi Hendrix with the electric guitar playing Elvis and the Beatlles songs.LOL What ever.Hes a Right On Driver in my books judging by his shifting! This is off topic but I like seeing chicks driving Big Trucks ... Its sexy!!!

  • what does that have for an engine?

  • @12v71jimmy Has a small cam Cummins.

  • Looks like fun. Those older Kenworths had a lot of character horrible to drive by todays standards but built to last & great to work on. Allways good to see those old trucks still running around.

  • thats a great old truck, how the hell do you no how to shift that thing, i never understood them twin stick jobs

  • @12v71jimmy This guy is not too bad but he's not exact. When doing splits, you bring both sticks to neutral and shift the main into the next gear first; then the auxiliary. Lots of different gears plus the road speed variable with the driveshaft turning the internal parts of the trans, all happening at the same time. 2-stick splits can be hard shifts until you drive it for a while and get the hang of it. Then, heavy load & terrain changes, it becomes a learning experience all over again.

  • @oceanjockey1000 Bull Shit! Getting both sticks in neutral at the same time is a recipe for disaster, especially in the mountains coming down hill. Stupid advice like that can get somebody killed!

  • I wish I could drive one of those some day.

  • seems like you don't know how to drive then.

  • Fantastic video. Great action shots. The real thing. I own a 1971 British Atkinson lorry that does not have power steering. [32T] but is nice to steer. No syncromesh, no heater, vinyl seat. Obsolete by today's standards of course but GREAT to drive if you like trucks! [lorries]

  • I wish I could drive a two stick. I'm glad I don't have to, but I wish I knew how.

  • Impressive, but I find it hard to believe, such a big truck from 1971, didnot have power steering ``? Trucks of this size did all have pwr.steering in 1971 in europe.

  • Comment removed

  • Trucks and buses had power steering, its just some guys ordered them w/o

  • I believe back then it was a luxury option and a/c as well.

  • @GarageBoy untill the late 60's it was a very very spendy luxury option. And before power steering was even dreamed to be standard it was air assist steering which was still a 5000$ accessory.

  • @MnTrucker1984

Interestingly, you';d tihnk with all the kids there, Disneyland Roger Rabbit Cartoon Spin has NO power steering..LOL not even Disneyland has enough money to pout luxeries on amusement attractions..though there are a lot of grownups at least dirving those...I can pull trash cans out, I can PROBALY try driving without power steering..

  • That man knows how to handle that beast!

  • He sure does.

  • city driving must be exhausting

  • I bet it would be,

  • Bloody hell, fair play, that must take some doing!!! XD

  • Sure does take some skill m8.

  • That truck looks like it doesnt have power steering!!!!

  • It doesn't have power steering Just good old armstrong.

  • Good work !!

  • holly shit!! two stick is difficult! one stick with flip its verry easy

  • Sure is.

  • Good job

  • I have a few others videos that weren't that good but he worked up a sweat from all that shifting and no ps.

  • Damn, I can't believe the old timers had to drive those.

  • Hell some of these old trucks still earn their keep.

  • I'd like to see my wife drive that truck !!

  • If she's a skillful driver shell do okay. You think?

  • how do you know which gear is which? like what's first gear in this thing?

  • @ivorton23 They're in the same place as any other 4 speed, you just have two of them. It's got more than one first gear technically, but both transmissions in 1st would technically be first gear.

  • I guess if you drive that around town for 1 hour you'll be so tired you HAVE to take a break. Great skill though.

  • my man kevin will never get fat driving that beast! does he use that truck for work? it says he owns it, what he do for work?

  • kevin does not have much time to drink coffee or blab on the cb driving that beast

  • Your right too busy shifiting to do anything else

  • Just about my favorite interior, it seems so cozy...

  • this is like my Uncles Kenworth damn that was a helluva truck

  • got the ol armstrong steering...he really cranks it around....and thats some sick shifting

  • Yup you got to eat a good breakfast early in the morning to drive this truck.

  • I take it the armstrong steering means you gotta have strong arms? Or you get 'armstrong' driving one of these old beasts?

No disrespect meant by the way ;)

  • i know u never meant any disrespect lol ....no old trucks like these had no power steering...hence the enormous steering wheels lol....so you had to have fairly strong arms in order to steer em

  • Both

  • great shifting!!!

  • sure is.

  • somebody explain the shift pattern to me. great video.

  • The yellow hand is the compound(splitter), the red knob is the main box. The compound shifts like a backwards H pattern. The main shifts like a std 4 spd pattern.

  • Maaan u aint lyin inbuisness!! After drin that damn thing all day that iz ur workout!! But I love every bit of it!

  • Forget going to the gym. Just jump in this bad boy and get your days exercise in no time! Awesome truck!

  • That's right just remember to eat a good hardy meal first cause would need it.

  • that must be hard shifting 2 sticks and with no power steering

  • Takes some real good driving experience. My boy Kevin gets down with them sticks. You got to eat a good meal everyday to drive with no power steering.

  • Aw man I jus love ma old KW!! I picked it up for 400 bucks!! And that damn thing iz tight!!

  • 400 bucks! Damn thats one helluva deal! Nice shifting by the way.

  • Yup hell of a deal can't go wrong with that price. Will post more shifting videos later.

  • damn no power steering and twin sticks that truck will turn you into a man real fast.

  • Kevin ,very good shifting,can't beat a 5x4.

    How about somemore footage?

  • I got more footage of Kevin shifting but he misses a few I will see if I post the footage.

  • Twin sticks, you either love em or hate em...LOL... love em myself...

we need to get bumper stickers made "It's a Twin Stick thing".. what do ya reckon??

  • Your right I love the old twin sticks never tried them as our trucks usually get a newer main and we don't shift the brownie as much. That bumper sticker is cool. Will check with my print shop about a desig of your idea Mack.
