Those Hmong people in China and in Norther Vietnam are practicing ball tossing like Hmong in Laos. Because they still throwing the balls up side down, not flat up throwing. There was a Hmong guy visited Hmong people in China and Hmong people in North Vietnam couple times, so he may thought them how to play the ball tossing in the New Year. Using ball tossing girls and boys can talk or find the girl friends and boy friend easier than just come to sit or stand in groups in the field.

ball tossing aren't really the real hmong tradition. hmong chinese still do ancient tradition to keep the hmong people alive. i think it's better if they don't do the ball tossing cause it's just made up when our ancestors left china.

Sorry one more last post. Yes Mong and Hmong are the same, just two different dialects of the Hmong language. The H is a nasal tone so you don't pronounce it. In Mong this dialect doesn't have a nasal tone to it. The Chinese call Hmong, Miao. So you will see Hmong/Mong/Miao same group of poeples. Anyways, hope this answers some questions.

Even though our history is tainted, its the 21st century we can't linger on these bad things. But yes, we have to remember your history. Its the only way we can grow and learn as a people. Anyways, Hmong people here in the States aren't even that "united". We can only adapt and live like the people around us, which means yes we are losing our identity and culture. Yes, these are the Hmong who emigrated from China. Remember, when exodus from china, the single group spread into 3 directions: LAOS, THAILAND, VIET. Yes, these are the ones fighting against VP and was under the command of General Nyguen Giap--Diem Bien Phu. There's top Hmong official in the Viet military and political but very few--and those may choose turned into a VIet. So sad so little progress because of discrimination...as usual.

i know an old southViet man that during the war was captuered and sent north for re-education. he was under hmong supervision and says that in earlier combat missions he thought they were chinese but after he got caught, he learned that the north vietnamese army had a lot of hmong people as soldiers.

Interesting they have a lot more different types of Hmong people than the Hmong of Laos. Interesting how Hmong people do really dress similar wherever they are. Yes many still live in poverty in many SE Asian countries. Its only here in the Americas, Europe, and Australia that we actually get a chance at changing our stars. Its just harder for Hmong people else where to break out of the cycle.
