I'm a Linux user and I just ordered a Sony Vaio as an upgrade to my old PC. I was thinking of using a Macbook Pro, but looking at sheer power at the same price points, the Sony Vaio had the Mac beat.
Oh and to people that keeps talking about Windows and viruses, I just gotta say that my Windows machines have not had any virus problems since the early 2000s. Antivirus software has become pretty great and it's not much of a worry anymore.

Is the bezel on your laptop fixed securely. On my new SE laptop, the top left hand side of the bezel seems to have a very small gap between the bezel and the screen. There is a little bit of give in the bezel itself. Its noticeable for a trained eye. Do you think there any chance of dust getting in there? Is it a big deal? I contacted sony and they said it's nothing to worry about, and they can echange it if something does happen over time.....which is reassuring.
Sounds biased. Now, I'm not a big Apple fan, because I find the price to be excessive for what you get, but stating that the Sony runs Windows, and the Mac runs OSX, is wrong, considering the Mac can run both. The Sony sheet battery they mentioned also adds to the weight and puts it higher than the Mac, which they whined about being a big deal, earlier on. In the end, it's going to be user preference though. Battery life/less expensive upgrades, vs. if you need OSX and a better touchpad.
just fyi, until Feb 28 sony is giving the sheet battery for free when you buy it, plus 5% for education discount, and if you buy two accessories you can get an additional 5% off when you call in, which gives you about $50 worth of free accessories after the discount. Also, i got about $450 of free adobe software, including photoshop for free with my purchase. all in all, i got the Vaio S for around $950, with free shipping, and at least $700 worth of free stuff to go with it. good buy.

Well, actually the Sony is More expensive at 1200 euros and the Mac is 1150 euros.
Plus the new late 2011 MacBook pro 13" also comes with a 500 gb hdd.

I like Mac and Vaio, but this isn't a fair comparison, you should consider Mac air lighter notebook, Mac OS rather than MS,
Of course I'd prefer Vaio great specs with price and if Sony put Mac OS on it, they would get 100 % market share :D

But you didn't mention viruses AHHHHHH the Sony vaio gets viruses sooo easy.......actually all microsofts get them easy! It is virtually impossible to get a virus on a Mac! I don't know about you but I don't like having to worry about what a website might give me especially side I just spent 1,000 bucks on it! The Sony may have some better things but PLEASE go with the Mac!!

Who wants to be stuck in the Mac world? Not me. Having a pc that gives you a range of options is what i like. I don't like a product that sticks to there own stuff like Apple. I have a Sony Vaio S and it's just badass! The picture is amazing and it's very fast. Buy one you won't be disapointed! The Bluray picture in 13.3 is amazing as well!

It´s software for gods sake. They both use the exact same hardware and they both have no issues at all running either OS including Linux. The problem is Apple blocking it, it has nothing to do with the hardware.

I'm a Linux user and I just ordered a Sony Vaio as an upgrade to my old PC. I was thinking of using a Macbook Pro, but looking at sheer power at the same price points, the Sony Vaio had the Mac beat.
Oh and to people that keeps talking about Windows and viruses, I just gotta say that my Windows machines have not had any virus problems since the early 2000s. Antivirus software has become pretty great and it's not much of a worry anymore.

I dont think people should think this twice,obviously macbook does always brings great GB and many other apple features..But many people do think about the price though,VAIO laptops are still great laptops and are in many great prices,which not reaching up to $1,000.Plus comparing the 2 brands,if ur thinking about buying VAIO,remember is still SONY.

Is the bezel on your laptop fixed securely. On my new SE laptop, the top left hand side of the bezel seems to have a very small gap between the bezel and the screen. There is a little bit of give in the bezel itself. Its noticeable for a trained eye. Do you think there any chance of dust getting in there? Is it a big deal? I contacted sony and they said it's nothing to worry about, and they can echange it if something does happen over time.....which is reassuring.

Sounds biased. Now, I'm not a big Apple fan, because I find the price to be excessive for what you get, but stating that the Sony runs Windows, and the Mac runs OSX, is wrong, considering the Mac can run both. The Sony sheet battery they mentioned also adds to the weight and puts it higher than the Mac, which they whined about being a big deal, earlier on. In the end, it's going to be user preference though. Battery life/less expensive upgrades, vs. if you need OSX and a better touchpad.

just fyi, until Feb 28 sony is giving the sheet battery for free when you buy it, plus 5% for education discount, and if you buy two accessories you can get an additional 5% off when you call in, which gives you about $50 worth of free accessories after the discount. Also, i got about $450 of free adobe software, including photoshop for free with my purchase. all in all, i got the Vaio S for around $950, with free shipping, and at least $700 worth of free stuff to go with it. good buy.
