  • This game and Robotron were my favorites on the 5200 back in the day. I got the QIX updated version for the Playstation system, but nothing beats the original.

  • This game taught me the word "threshold."

  • Qix is Kool!

  • @rockstarduh5 Was you mean is awesome ps this is on 3ds

  • @Indead Ya I thought it was brown too

  • 1 pxl away haha

  • Aren't these game mechanics used to make really cheap and boring games?

  • booberry duh

  • voice & age don't match ~

The Uncle of Ytube retro gaming

  • anyone else wondering why this is in full hd?

  • I really want an Atari 5200.

  • Qix are birds

  • I play a game just like it called fill it the one difference is there are no sparks and the wiz

  • Cool game, but I always seem to forget what it's called!

  • I ahve it for gameboy. :D

  • Qix on the original Gameboy was awesome!

  • So if you cut a line in the middle to you get the left or the right side?

  • @SoFrosts You get whatever side the Qix isn't on

  • I had Qix on GameBoy! huzzah

  • @LocustaVampa The music and sound effects...so haunting.

  • @DeadOmega OH I so agree. These games hit me right in the nostalgia gland.

  • Now I see where Bully got the idea behind the Art Class minigame.

  • @supercrazy6758 not all, i think only partners

  • This Game QIX ASS!

  • OMG I used to play qix with my commodore 64!

  • Two words, man: Gals Panic!

  • You are the man, best review you did great job

  • bully for the wii art class multiplayer game is like this game.

  • What software do you use for makin the intro?

  • Now I am Red/Green colorblind and am wondering if anyone else sees a hideous greenish brownish color that Mark called "red"?

  • @Indead

There is a red line (time like) under the percentage numbers. As for the filled "boxes", one is cyan and the other is something like brown yellow mustard like colour. French mustard I think.

  • @Indead lol. Maybe Mark is the colorblind one. : p Just sayin'.

  • @Indead it is a bit brownish but i would still call it red.

  • @Indead i did, and i know im not colorblind

  • @Indead Just the graphics :/

  • Hey, that is where PacXon came from!

  • That's it! I'm downloading CubixX off the PSN.

  • I always played Volfied on the pc (DOS) and this is almost the same. But Volfied looks better and is probably newer than this. ;)

  • I checked up the Wikipedia article looking for a newer port or remake. It seems the game is actually pronounced as kicks(so says the box art) and their catchphrase is "Get your Qix from Taito." Pretty catchy. Also proves that Taito wants to kick us.

  • We always pronounced it "quicks", but no matter how you say it, it's awesome. If you like the 5200, you should really look into one of the various Atari 8-bit computers. They are cheap as hell, and you can play alot of these same versions of games (for the most part), but with the Atari controllers or anything compatible. I've really been enjoying mine. Games are hard to find and kinda pricey, but well worth it. Plus, they are just awesome looking consoles. Get one, and review it!

  • @ionmyke how much is the game?

  • Comment removed

  • One of my favorite games to casually spend a few minutes on, by far

  • Boo Berry.

I think Apple Jacks was more an artificial orange taste. o_o

  • I remember playing this on the original gameboy

  • my favorite version: gameboy

  • This game is in bully when you go to art class

  • This game looks addicting.

  • @TheGenesisfan93 lol it is! i have the gamboy one :D

  • Would be better on Atareks

  • my favorite version of this is on Genesis. the graphics and gameplay are greatly enhanced.

  • Wow that looks like something I'd actually have fun playing. :P

Typically I go as far back as NES but no further, but this game I would have fun with.

  • Now I want a 5200

  • this game was on sony ericsson

  • I remember playing a Japanese homebrew DOS version of this that unlocks a hentai cartoon as you progress in the level. So the higher the percentage of blocks you make, the more tna you get to see. The pictures got more explicit with each level. Don't ask me the name of it, it died with my 386 in 1995.

  • wow, the first time I played this game was a kind of porn game in which you must uncover the picture in order to win... and to see the (japanese) girl naked :)

  • have this for Gameboy.

    It's Full of Win.

  • i love this game

  • @tommykrongyut123 Because they are awesome, and so is CGR.

  • @tommykrongyut123

Because many viewers like them and he played them as a kid. And many people think they are just better games.

  • lol, I played a game like that on MSX =D

  • Pretty weird strategy you have there....with this type of game I'd always do a series of thin vertical blocks up the centre of the screen so I could take out half the screen pretty easily in one go....seemed to work well.

  • Booberry would win, hands down

  • Isn't there a minigame similar to this on Bully? I believe it's art class

  • i realy wish i had the old old consoles :(

  • water bugs rip off :P you should try that game

  • @StefyVolti :-) Water Bugs is more like Jezzball!

  • @StefyVolti How is THIS a rip off? Its a older game. WATER BUGS is a newer game.

  • Oh god I am oooold. I can remember playing that game a lot in the arcades. I was never really good at it but still enjoyed it. I had 3 home versions of the game as well. NES, C64 and Amiga.

  • Oh god.. i remember that.. One of my Favourites games back in these days..

  • I've got Cubixx (Qix set on a 3D cube) for PSP Mini. Although I usually play it on my PS3! Wish I could play retail versions of PSP games on my PS3!

  • i a better graphics game in my phone.

Amazing how much computers advanced since the late 80s.

  • I had this for the NES when I was three or four years old. Brilliant game.

  • Dont get me wrong. the PSP and DS are great portable systems. But the Gameboy and the Gameboy Color really were the best. They had a lot of great games! And they were helpful for boredom, road trips, planes, etc. I wish that one day Nintendo will remake the past

  • "Kix like the cereal but with a Q like the guy from star trek"

mark.... GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!1!!:)

  • @madogmgd lulwut?

  • I would love to see the algorithm for the square filling.

  • I like the 1990 release on Gameboy, and that's the port I first played it on. I'm gonna see what it looks like on the NES....

  • lol i like how it freezes the game out when it fills in the square.

  • 1 dislike......wow.....

  • Anyone played PAC-XON.

  • All my friends are dead♫

    All my friends are dead♫

They got Qix'd in the head♫

    All my friends are dead♫

  • ha haha! he said booberry 4:31

  • Lord Karnage will come and get the 1 person who disliked this video!

  • HAHAHA Qix, LOL good times there :D

  • Thumbs up if you don't think I deserve that you give me thumps up.

  • Qix is one of my favorite games. This was one of the harder ports too. The NES one was one of the easier ones in my opinion. There's also a remake on the Xbox 360 which is also pretty cool. Might give that one a shot at some point.

  • "i'm taking a chance here. Awww, the Qix got me." sheer awesome.

  • this game qix ass

  • Qix his head in!

  • For a second, I thought it was a Tron clone.

  • Qix for Gameboy was my forte.

  • I'm just shocked that Mark actually FOUND 2 5200 games worth playing.

  • please review syphon filter 1 for the ps1

  • wow this is one of the first atari games I actually think looks fun

  • BOOBERRY all the way!!! It got Marshmellows unlike Apple Jacks !!!

  • So you pronounce it "Kicks"? I always said "Quicks."

This was a pretty funky arcade game back in the day. Still deserves an award for Most Abstract Video Game Conception.

  • it is also a mini game on bully

  • Silly Mark.

    Qix are for kids!

  • The game "Kritter Krawler" on myYearbook is like this..... Now I know its roots! :D

  • Hell yeah qix! It's like a free form jezz ball.

  • dammit it looks so addictive

  • Awesome looking game.

  • they have a qix arcade at my local chuky cheese....none of the kids play it.....its a shame

  • Boo Berry would totally kick its ass! lol

  • I am SO tired of watching some uncle sam guy digging a hole in these stupid commercials

  • In russia qix traps you

  • This game reminds me of Cacoma Knight on the SNES

  • There's a mini game in Bully like this, It's pretty sweet, xD

  • @DuckmanR10 art class (Y)

  • When you play Qix for Atari 5200 it sounds like something is wrong with your television, but when you Gals Panic S it sounds like something is wrong with YOU!

  • You can win games like this by building a "tower" in the middle little by little. Than boom! Trap the zapping stuff! I used to play my first game of this kind on c64. Than later on PC.

  • At this arcade I went to, there was a more recent Qix machine that revealed naked cartoon chicks (hentai) as you played. But it was a lot of fun, so go figure.

  • The first time i played Qix was on a PS2 collection with my sister and brother in law... we ended up playing like 6 hours.. this was so f'in addicting xD

  • THis was a mini game on bully also the art one.

  • There's always Ultimate Qix for Genesis! Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeearrrrghh!!!

  • awesome :D

  • at 3:31 i died irl

  • Qix is awesome. I have 3 versions, myself... not including the Tiato compilation one. There was a version that came out about 5 or 6 years ago on PS1, shortly before they stopped releasing games for it, called Qix Neo, that I managed to pick up at FYE for $4.99 new upon release. Cool game for those that can find it, and I can't imagine the price has gone UP much.

  • Disregard the infinite typos.

  • Loved the arcade version.

  • loved this game. had it for the gameboy

  • @badgerkins1991 I have the GameBoy one too! It's awesome. Used to be my brother's.

  • >red

    wat?

  • cool

  • Qix is an awesome name for an awesome review xD

    Lord Karnage you rule!!!!!

  • reminds me of art class on the bully

  • this game is 100 times harder in the arcade. really fun game.

  • This is like Gals Panic without the Porn and Funky music!

  • Loved the Game Boy version.

  • One of my favorite arcade games. The Qix looks less alive and threatening on the 5200 IMO.

  • this reminds me of the minigame from art class in bully

  • Gal Panic is something similar to this Just don't try to review it

  • mark .. you should do movie reviews ..

  • Looks more like brown than red.

  • the first time I played Qix was on the original gameboy, and that took away hours of my life (and saved me from long road trips)

it came out as a psp mini called cubixx and it happens on a 3d cube and 1 not just 1 flat plane

  • video games and cereal some of my favorite things. :)

  • pacxon?

  • how do you record your consoles?

  • @r0botpiss capture card

  • red :S it looks more brown that red

  • in the game bully in art class u play a minigame just like this. thumbs me up if u know wut i mean!!

  • Man this is just like a pacman flash game pacxon

  • I first played this game in the early 80's on the coin-op version. I hated the game but it kept sucking me back for more.

  • We need a remake of this for the Vectrex.

But instead of Qix you will be chased by Lord Karnage.

  • @Lugmillord oh yes....

  • @Lugmillord We do not really need such a deep level of kiss-assery! Not that I don't agree, by the way. Is there a software review from Mark I didn't see? Not sure... but still. Let him do his thing.... just don't let him understand that we care.

  • I remembere a similar game on the Gameboy, called Fuse.

    Loved that game :D

  • XD Cereal puns!

  • This is where the art minigame in Bully came from.

  • Ive watched this video like 4 times and I still dont understand how this game works

  • Great review, but for crying out loud, just get the adapter, which can be found on Ebay, that allows you to use a 2600 joystick on the 5200. Or get the Wico joysticks.

  • I'm surprised you didn't mention the Spiral Death Trap.

  • i played a game like this years ago on a an old siesems... except it was with some kind of airplanes

  • theres a flash game called pacXon thats almost exactly like this exept it's with pacman characters

  • i have a version of this called called qix neo but its damn hard and there are more and they are faster, they also head directly for your line when you start. i can hardly beat the first level on the easy mode its rediculous. its sad too because it has awesome visuals

  • qix rocks, because its about guts

you gotta be brave to win

    always liked the concept

  • I played a game like this in the arcade years ago. But, you revealed a picture of like a Manga/Anime girl. Can't remember what it was called, any ideas?!

  • the game over music is pretty epic.

  • lol art class in bully
