  • In my opinion Germany should have won, UK 2nd and Switzerland 3rd. But instead of this Germany won the year after that, so: congratulations Britain!

  • jajaj yugoslavia? o my god so time a go amazing the points of eurovosion in 1981 with that technology jaja o my god really that is nice to remember. hi from argentina!

  • Beat at the last again. Unlucky Bosche!

  • Making your mind up is a quite good song and 1 of my favourites; but I must say, I think Johnny Blue (Germany) should have won.

  • 7:28 - I think Terry Wogan sounded as excited and ecstatic as the other guys at that point

  • PS. And which country entered a bloody "Singing Turkey" ROFLMAO

Talk about a laughing stock PMSL

  • I'm sure you'd know all about entering a bloody singing turkey. And he wasn't singing, he was screaming. You'd be screaming too if you'd been analy raped to the point where you shat blood.

You should have at least sedated the poor bugger first.

  • Wow Stewie LOL

Obviously "Your" mum brought you up well !!!

With a reply like that, im sure she's so proud of ya.....LMAO

  • The only thing that ruined Eurovision was "Ireland"

  • Really? I thought the only thing that ruined Eurovision was the fact that your mother is a gigantic mouth-whore with a seven-mile wide cunt hole and enough weeping herpes to hydrate a moderately sized garden.

  • I have never seen someone swearing so intellectually.

  • it was a close voting before Switzerland gave vote

  • Terry Wogan is from Limerick is is very much in southern Ireland.. Making him an irish citizen..... I only wish he was british, because he is an embarassment to the REPUBLIC of Ireland. Get it right Fuzzypeg

  • Terry Wogan is Irish..... why does he say "us" regarding uk

  • Terry Wogan is from Northern Ireland which is in the UK. Southern Ireland isn't, it's separate from the UK..

  • bloody hell, was wogan doing back in the 80s!?

  • Look at norway and turkey, oh have the times changed.

  • when you look back they were crap then come to think of it they one on saturday in the eurovision 2009 in moscow haha

  • Thanks for posting ! I haven't seen this since the actual night. I wish Eurovision today was as good as this and just had these members. They ruined it by letting too many other countries in.

  • go UK!

  • Poor Norway such a shame.

  • They had a really mediocre song that year though.

  • Five yrs after the Bof Man its Bucks Fizz

    how lucky we are.

  • I love "Making your mind up".

  • Best song won from Swedish fan.

  • Notice all of the Top 5 countries are all Western. Nower days its mostly Eastern. Unbelievable eh?

  • Possibly because all the countries participating then bar Yugoslavia and Turkey/Israel/Cyprus (depending on your definition of Eastern) were western.

  • Go britain!we rock!Luv makin your mind up!

  • Love the hair.

    hb151

  • you clearly did listen to it for you to think it's crap. Pick your words carefully.

  • i love the song making your mind up best ever win from uk (apart from brotherhood of man) I also love the irish entry sheeba the song was called horoscopes

  • Yeah a bit of patriotism!!!!

    Rule Britannia!!!

    GO BUCKS FIZZ

    Such a classic song

On the day of Eurovision 2008, Making Your Mind Up was played on my local radio, MarcherSound, it got me really excited about Eurovision, I thought The UK had a goood chance of winning but it obviously wasn't to be.

    Russia- I hate.

  • the reason why we came last in 2008 is coz we deserved to come last coz the song sucked.

if Andy Abraham was back then instead of Bucks Fizz then he might have won, but not in 2008

  • Rule Britannia!

  • So sad Terry is not going to host the competition anymore because of the corrupt voting. Let's have a World competition at least the Yanks, Aussies and Canadians might vote for us.

  • Would they hell as like. lol

    Agree about Wogan though.

  • Just wanted to say...the host is a gorgeous woman...well, at least she was in 1981 :D wow!

  • Her name is Doireann Ní Bhriain. She's now in her mid-50s and works in Dublin. ;)

  • So much more exciting than anything since they introduced televoting. The whole thing seemed more simple, unadultarated. And how happy Terry sounded!! Do it Terry, don't get involved in the farce anymore.

  • I think they should go back to the days of the jury!!

So we actually might have another chance of winning!

  • I so agree!

  • Talk about tension! I really miss those days of nail biting finishes, where countries to the left of the baltic actually had a chance of winning ;o)

  • Finland is north of the baltic, and they won in 2006.

  • Lol! Norway ... nul points!

  • no they won the eurovision song contest in 1997 (love shine a light) and its not just ENGLAND its UNITED KINGDOM BIG DIFFERENCE.

  • Also it holds the title of wining with the biggest lead 70 points! over any other song

  • They sang terribly? My boyfriend didn't even realise they were singing live until I told him. That's a compliment. I think they sang worse the second time because they were excited and tired, but their initial performance was worthy of winning.

  • So much better back in the day when there weren't as many countries involved. It's ridiculous now! Nice to see some decent voting after years of voting bollocks! I remember the whole family sitting round the TV watching this!

  • thnaks so mcuh for posting

  • this lady is very pretty!

  • Who was the girl presenter? WoW!!!!

  • her name is doireann ni bhroinn... my sister was named after her!!

  • UK, Spain, France and Germany should just pull out and leave the rest to it.

Sadly the voting isn't meaningful anymore, it's just a farce now.

  • UK won 5 times

    67 sandie shaw

    69 lulu

    76 brotherhood of man

    81 bucks fizz

    97 katrina and the waves

  • great stuff- we won- thanks for this!

  • I take it Norway wasnt very good... is this the only one the UK has won?

  • Think UK won again in 1997. The band was Katrina and the Waves, and the song was "Love Shine a Light"

  • Brotherhood of man won it in the 70's.

  • The UK has won five times; Sandie Shaw in 1967, Lulu in 1969, Brotherhood of Man in 1967, Bucks Fizz in 1981 and Katrina & the Waves in 1997.

  • Sorry, I meant Brotherhood of Man in 1976. Rogue fingers. :S

  • Bad luck Turkey and Norway

  • Yeah, especially Turkey's "Dönme dolap" I think definitely did not deserve as low as joint second-from-last!

  • the good old days of euro vision

  • Perhaps it was prophetic that a song called "Making your mind up" should win this year, because the juries seemed absolutely unable to make up their minds.

  • havent seen this before! i was at a disco at the time, and asked the D.J if he knew who had won? my friends and me were sad euro fans!

he said he didnt know, so we gave him a hard time! he found out, and announced that Bucks fizz had won! we went mad! I now think 26 yrs later we should opt out! It's so crap, dated ,and there is no place for this stuff these days. It dosen't have a place in the 2000's. Lets opt out in 2007 and be proud!

  • did anyone see Greece get an extra 8 points before the start of the swedish voting?

  • Yes, and about time, as it was a very belated addition: the UK gave 8 points to Greece but it wasn't until before Sweden were to vote when this was corrected.

  • whats the uk doing with 116 points? we're supposed to do badly at the contest

  • Why can't Wogan be more like that these days (rhetorical) ?

  • Re: Katrina representing the UK

it doesn't matter where the singer comes from as long as the song was written by a person of that nationality. Hence this year we nearly had a french woman representing the UK at eurovisoin... which would have been amusing.

  • saw theese clowns at butlins...too much slap

  • With only 2 sets of votes to go - UK, Germany and Switzerland were all tied for first place. I remember how tense it was way back then and I was so excited when Bucks Fizz won - the last really great Euro winnes

  • Notice that before all of the eatsern countries got in we were all doing quite well. not saying that they are good but they are conspiring so its all about polotics now

  • Dude, I have lived in Germany on and off for the past 12 years and have seen the EuroVision contest at least 6 times during that phase... I can tell you right now that the UK, hands down, puts out some of the most horrible crap year after year. The other countries dont hate you... they hate your taste in music.

  • As much as I agree. It is largely to do with countries voting for the closest neighbouring countries.. In the UK, we don't have too many exactly 'close by'.

...and lets be perfectly honest here. Eurovision was never really a place for spawning talent (VERY few exceptions).

  • Yes, I wont bring up the exceptions (Ok, one... Abba) but overall you are totally right. Sure, the UK has a lot of wins but they also are one of the few countries that have an automatic bid every single year. Not all countries have that luxury. A few of the UK's wins were preceded by awful years and they wouldnt have even had the winning year had they not had an automatic bid. Hey, I am not hating on the UK... at all (even if they had to pay some "yanks" for a win once) hey., its all good!

  • 4 out 5 United Kingdom wins came before the big 4 automatic qualification and in fact pre the days of having to qualify. So the 4 wins were when we were on a level playing field with other countries.

  • ...and re your final point Katrina has been a UK resident a long time, entering a national from another country is not new - Vicky Leandros from Greece representing Luxembourg and winning

  • They have also been last or close to it more than any other country, no? Hey... you don't have to be so defensive. So what... an American won one of "your" Gran Prix's... the UK still won. I was and am just and am only (ooh, confusing?) pointing out obvious facts. Ie. The UK can do horribly bad (as they have done many times recently) and still be there the next year. Most other countries cannot.

  • not sure about coming last or near last more than others - but would need to check !!! surely other candidates for that prize - regarding automatic qualification.....we do pay most for the EBU along with the others in big 4....

  • So... you bought your Grand Prix's? Ok... thats enough for me, I believe that settles it. Take care.... cya!

  • But overall the UK has one five times and been second many times, which is one of the best records apart from Ireland

  • Turkey got given 9 points, but went back to 0 again? That scoreboard must have been rigged!

  • the stage set looks like from a game show

  • Probably because most of the music in Eurovision is absolute crap, and Italians make the crappiest of crap. Italo disco is worse than spice girls and all that shit. That's not really saying much, but come on. The judges have to literally choose the best flavor of feces.

  • waratah234

    lol thats funny

  • watch 4:01, when suisse finished. why did greece light up and get an additional 8 points?

  • It should be judged on a televote system where countries simply give the number of votes given to ea`ch song in their televote system. Why should tiny Luxembourg have the same decision power as Germany or France? That's not how Europe works.

  • Back in the day when Eurovision actually mattered. I watched this and i remember the next school day thats all anyone talked about.

  • LOL back when yugoslavia were in it!

  • Interesting to see that France, UK, Switzerland and Germany all did very well here, whereas this year (2007) they all did shocking.

  • Exclaty, because now Eurovision is a really shame! is a east-eurovision. In Spain are living 1.000.000 of roumanian inmigrants and "Spain" gives 12 votes to Roumania all the years. Jury again!!

  • MEH! Exactly, you are so right!

And France giving all those points to Turkey.

    Eurovision now stinks LOL!

  • What do you get those figures from? 1.000.000 Romanians? The biggest contingent is probably the Ecuadoran and they barely surpass 500.000 people.

  • i love this song, just sooo eurovision, we deserved to win!

  • and Norway got the unwanted title the nil points

  • back the i suspect it WAS about how good the song was nowadays its polotics and favourate nabough's i wasnt born back then tho lol

  • Doireann Ní Bhríain was a great presenter, and RTÉ in Dublin staged the show brilliantly. She speaks beautifully. The UK's winning song was great, a classic of Eurovision.

  • the presenter is so cold...so formal..

  • well the top two were the best songs

  • in my opinion it was the best song ever in the eurovision!!

  • When the show still had some credibility!

  • I'd really like to see the Irish "Horoscopes" from 1981. Just to see if it's as good as it looks.

  • the only thing i ever watch is the scores!

  • Suit yourself but that's really missing what Eurovision is all about.

  • them days when wasn't political all good now its fucking poltical shame its went to the dogs now ! love shit boared of the scores fucky 80s bbc computer lol

  • so you must hate the scoreboards every year, the bbc does them for every country

  • Does the BBC run the whole contest??

  • the uk pays the most every year towards staging the contest

  • Really? Why? What about the host country or and the rest of the countries??

  • UK, Spain, France and Germany are part of the big 4

  • Not too long before this, she asked for Yugoslavia's votes and got the response "I don't have it!"

  • They called the wrong number, meaning that you may pick up your phone and get requested for votes. The woman didn't know what was going on.

  • During these times the Eurovision Song Contest used to be realy great...not the MTV second hand show which it is today...I'm so sorry but is was much more interesting than today!

  • I couldn't agree more. It was a festival for all kinds of music that isn't what you call mainstream but is nonetheless very good (well, most of the time).

  • Hello from 1 Rayner to another

  • no, you're joking??

  • No I ain't! I's a Mid-Essex Rayner, eldest of 8 - RM Rayner

  • When did Italy pull out of Eurovision? I didn't think it was as long ago as this?

  • Last entry of Italy was in 1997. A song called "Fiumi di parole, sung by Jalisse. It' s a pity that Italy doesn' t take part anymore...

  • They weren't in this one (back in 1991) though, the country is not on the scoreboard. I always thought Italy must have got a really low score one year and pulled out, but they came 4th in 1997, maybe they were just annoyed that we won in a landslide that year! ;)

  • Italians think that the contest is a farce. just like every1 else in europe.

  • Wow... you could really feel the tension as the votes came in. I dunno about the rest of you, but I was SSSSOOOOOO glad when the UK became the ultimate victors! But one question: if this was live, what is it doing on YouTube? P.S Nice legs Ms Baker!!

  • How curt and sharp looks the hostess!

¡Qué poca gracia tiene la presentadora!

  • What happened and Greece had 8 more points before Sweden said where she gives the 1 point? A mistake?

  • They hadn't added the 8 points the United Kingdom gave Greece at the right time, then corrected it.

  • Yeah, I thought of that too!

    *Ahem* Greek Scoreboard operator

  • Hey thanks for the video. I love watching voting videos. Do you have any more :-D
