Ok you didnt say anything about the other reasons on why we use guns. Hunting, target shooting. btw for all you idiots who think hunting is just a bunch of rednecks running around in the woods shooting bambi.....well your retarded. Hunting is very safe if you know how to use a gun properly. Target shooting is a the same way like skeet shooting. These are both a sport and if gun control was added then your taking away a hobby, sport, and way of life for millions of americans.
My favorite argument against disarmament in the face of rising corruption is the notion that a gun is more likely to cause than prevent a crime. That means the likelihood of a gun being NECESSARY to stop a crime isn't big enough to be risk effective. My question is "At what crime level?" The logical assumption is during crime free times. That being the case, why is gun ownership not contested then? Why isn't the push 4 disarmement relaxed when the liklihood of gun usefulness is on the rise?
There was a time? Yea, cuz you cant get killed in the modern world. She is an idiot. What stats is she spouting? I own lots of guns and I have not been killed. I wish they would stop spouting these lies. There are too many stupid people out there that actually believe them. If you choose not to own a gun, fine. Don't tell me that I am not allowed to defend my family, unless you are willing to do the job. Oh, when the criminals are coming in the window, statistics wont stop them.
gun laws arent going to keep the lawless from owning weapons its only going to keep law abiding citizens from owning weapons thus leaving citizens vulnerable to crime
I own numerous firearms, have been shooting, hunting and enjoying guns for over a decade and a half, and have never injured, wounded or killed myself or another person.
I also know well over 2000 other gun owners from all over the world with the same track record, and belong to an organization which teaches, fosters and encourages safe, active use of weapons in the sporting, hunting and defensive fields. What do you have to say about that?
@fixdeluxe1 First, I agree 100%. I have owned guns for 25+ years and I have never had any accidents either.
What do they say about that? You (and I) are just beer swilling rednecks and NRA flunkies who unwittingly support the gun industry. Its just a matter of time before we shoot each other over some minor disagreement.
They have been perfecting this gun control scam for decades. The assault weapons ban? Gun registration? None of it has ever worked..
@rb2112002 Thanks. It is a core, fundamental aspect of a free and prosperous society.Look at all the most repressive nations on earth, what is one factor that unites them all, strict gun control...
@fixdeluxe1 Yes, but now you are just being paranoid. lol. Its easier to make us look like conspiracy nuts than to address the facts.
They will never admit that history proves our point, not theirs. I think it was Jefferson that said "When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny."
It took the present administration to start the pendulum moving to the right again. Lets hope it keeps going in that direction.
@fixdeluxe1 I was joking about being paranoid. That is what the left says about anyone who discusses the real reason for the Second Amendment. They seem to think it has something to do with hunting. The second Amendment was added so that the people would always be in control, not the govt. If you say that in the modern age, you are paranoid. It cant happen here, right?
@fixdeluxe1 I had an argument with a guy from Australia. He thought I was so arrogant for expecting the govt to do what the people told it to. He thought I was nuts for even proposing it..
@fixdeluxe1 I have met a few people from there. The majority agree that guns are evil, and their friends, relatives and neighbors cant be trusted with them. Scary stuff. I imagine that all the criminals formed a big line to turn in their weapons when the ban came.
@fixdeluxe1 Yea, thats what I told him too. I said that he wants people disarmed because he is probably still a criminal. I told him that in this country (US) the criminals are the biggest supporters of gun control. One day I hope to visit your country. A co-worker of mine went there on vacation. He loved it. What are your gun laws like? Can you carry concealed? Are certain guns restricted? I can buy any gun without a background check and carry any handgun concealed. God Bless Texas..
@rb2112002 Well,of course handguns are extremely hard to come by here(for sports shooters only) but getting an A-category license is a breeze(for hunting rifles and shotguns).Registration only for Military Style Semi-automatics,pistols and automatic weapons.Good proportion of gun owners, and little anti-gun sentiment.Far better than australia(which is racist, xenophobic uneducated shithole I might add).
@fixdeluxe1 Thats interesting. As far as handguns, how do you become a "sport shooter"? Im confused because you say later that pistols can be registered. We have argued against registration for years. The funny thing is that where the most restrictive laws are, there seems to be higher gun crime. Your neighbors had a spike in crime after they took all their guns away. I'm not sure which I like less, the criminals, or the politicians that protect them..
@rb2112002 I did a paper on gun control for my political science degree, and I used statistics of increased violent crime, burglary and robbery rates in Australia as one of my foundations for my argument. To become a sports shooter, you join a licensed pistol club, and handguns must be registered. Not many owners here(apart from myself and a few thousand others).Look up a guy called "Kiwitedferny".He is a gun collector here in NZ>
@fixdeluxe1 Sorry, didn't see your last post. When I talk to Aussies here, they seem to think that the crime rate went down? I'm not sure how that would be possible because the criminals were never affected by the law. I guess that's what happens when you combine a meaningless, emotional law with a slick marketing campaign? It was sad to watch all those guns getting cut up. There was a Springfield '03. It was probably a family heirloom and definitely a piece of history. Now its scrap.
@fixdeluxe1 Yea, they do the same here. They manipulate the stats until they say what they want them to say. Its really sad that people can be lied to on such a large scale and actually turn against each other because the govt told them to. Scary stuff..
@rb2112002 Registration doesn't work, but you get an endorsement to your license to own a pistol, military style semi-automatic or automatic weapon(or explosives, short barrel pistols etc).
Would someone be so kind and transcribe this for me? I 'm planing to use it in my presentation at english classes but I do not understand everything clearly :(
@ofSaturday Yeah, I'm not sorry for being unserious, but this conversation far from definitive. YouTube asked us to debate something we disagree on, she came over, we talked, and this is the result. If you're not already a fan of TheResident or me, this is probably not the most stimulating 4 minutes you could be having.
Yes, guns are designed to kill. To kill an attacker, to kill a rapist that is strangling you, to kill a crazy man that is shooting at you, to kill someone that is stabbing you as he robs you, etc. Guns are designed to kill, cops carry guns, so is that to say that cops are killers? Most cops never shoot anyone, but their guns keep them safe and the public as a whole safe. It's their guns, not their uniforms that do that.
And in the four years from 1997 to 2001, the rate of violent crime more than doubled. 1997 was the year handguns were banned.Your chances of being mugged in London are now six times greater than in New York. 53 percent of English burglaries occur while occupants are at home, compared with 13 percent in the U.S., I got all this info from reason.com
So I just did some research to fix my 400% bullshit. In englans, there were only 3 homocides by handgun between 1890 and 1992. 2 years after the handgun ban, violence and robbery increased 40% with the use of hand guns and the upward trend continues. From April to November 2001, the number of people robbed at gunpoint in London rose 53 percent. From 1991 to 1995, crimes against the person in England's inner cities increased 91 percent. This is when the bans firrst started taking place.
I like how the girl said something about a guy with a nuclear bomb in a suitcase and then said a tank going down the street is just an extreme situation like it couldn't happen LMAO
Also, statictics show most people are killed with illegal guns by people who are buying guns illegaly. I truly believe all a gun ban will do is make another profitable market for the mexican cartels.
I don't know why most people who are for gun control always talk about nuclear bombs just like that girl did (1:01) and micheal moore did in his moive "Bowling for Columbine" . I mean do they really think anybody in the U.S besides our military have nuclear bombs? Like a man in a big city is going to say " you make me so anger i'm going to use my nuclear bomb to kill you!" People if your going to debate about gun control be more realistic.
MESSAGE TO ALL WHO SUPPORT GUN CONTROL & LAWS THAT LEAVE YOUR FAMILY DEFENSELESS. Please hang a sign on your front door with the following statement: "No weapons allowed, attention criminals, this is a defense free crime zone. All law abiding patrons of this establishment have been disarmed for your convenience.
Thank you for empowering criminals, your anti-self defense law will help encourage & fuel more crime against peaceful citizens. Remember, criminals cannot do their job without you.
Another two people that know nothing about a subject but are willing to make unbackable statments. Again it is easyer and state untruths and nonfacts for the soul reason of making your point. Just like a liberals do.
A nuclear bomb?!?!? What planet does this woman come from? News flash, sweetie, Women are now equal in number to my male customers. Women are getting CCW permits at a third higher rate than men. Extreme situation? Yeah, a male attacker, 100 pounds heavier than you, armed with a knife or other weapon and you with nothing I would call that extreme. Women are waking up to that fact, that and cops, as good a job as they try to do, can't be everywhere and won't get there in time to save you ass.
if guns are not allowed you know what im gonna do if i dont have one im gonna make one if i do have one and they come to get it im gonna go with my gun motto you can have my gun when you pry it from my cold dead fingers and most gun related deaths are gang violence and also 2.5 million times a year guns are used in self defense in the united states would you rather about that many murders cause they werent able to defend themselves?
Where does she live?! Shes hot! And now that I know she hates guns, I have nothing to fear... as a rapist I believe the same as her. Women, sorry, no one should own guns. have you every tried to rape a women whose barrel was long then yours, thats just embarrassing!
Nope, I prefer them with arms that end at the nails. Its safer for both of us. really, you could chip a nail, or a kid could shoot themselves. Guns are bad and kill people. Please, don't own one!
Let's pretend that all guns were outlawed in the US today and somehow all of the law abiding gun owners willingly gave up hundreds of millions of dollars worth of firearms and ammo.
Um....okay....so now the criminals are the only armed civilians. This doesn't seem like a working scenario for me.
Nature abhors a vacuum. We'd have firearms flowing into this country and into the hands of criminals the next day. We cannot even keep 150lb illegals out (or Cocaine & Heroin from around the globe).
@JoeFelice Your point is about as concise as the video. That's saying a lot. Different countries have different demographics, culture and crime rates. It is what it is. If you go to Nigeria you'll see that it's not unusual for backwards ass heathens to sexual mutilate little girls. That's unheard of here. We don't do it because of superior knife and razor blade control. We shun the practice due to culture. The same can be said of other nations and guns. They are sheeple with no gun culture.
@JoeFelice By the way, if theres one thing my school taught me is to never trust any type of wikipedia information. We would fail projects if we used them because there missinformed. Fact.
@shurnee Great point and anyone looking to ban hand guns just look up Tony Martin a British man jailed for 3 years for shooting and killing one of 2 intruders in his secluded farm home..
There are about 70 million gun owners in America owning an estimated 270 million firearms. The vast majority of us are legal, safe and not a danger to you.
Why not concentrate on the criminal element instead of dreaming of a day when rights can be stripped away from law abiding citizens.
BTW, it would take martial law and warrantless searches to disarm America. Guess what? You'd only get the good guys. The criminals will still be armed just as they are in US cities with strict gun control.
This is a pretty complex topic and you really cannot have two opinions well represented in 4 minutes.
BTW, statistics DO NOT show that most people are killed by their own guns.
I'm a gun owner and avid shooter. I'd give up my guns IF it would make a difference. It wouldn't. The criminals, crazies, muggers and murderers will still be armed and my giving up my firearms would just take one well trained law abiding citizen out of the mix. This is a net loss.
How can any woman be for gun control? If you truly limit the number of guns in society the criminals simply look for weaker targets. Who is that? Look at the UK. Women are mugged, raped and violently attacked more than before they had strict gun control. Index crime against women in the UK is roughly 2x higher than the US. This is supported by the body of the literature. As a woman and forensic psych I am unwilling to increase my chances of being victimized so someone feels good about a law.
violent crime is at a 40 something year low. Accident rates with guns has been falling for a hundred years. Yet the American people by 56% of all guns made, while the US military, all the police forces and agencies and all the police forces, militaries and civilians around the world put together buy 44% of all new firearms. People, grow up, the USA has all the guns, based on this the Brady campaign would think there would be shootouts at every intersection.

You guys covered absolutely nothing. You shirked pretty much every interesting subtopic covered by guns. It seems like you touched briefly on something that could be interesting, found out that you clashed on the subject and tried to move on. But the whole topic was something you both disagree on, so trying to move on was fruitless. Seriously, I haven't seen anyone ramble on like that without actually saying anything genuine since the Microsoft antitrust case of 1998.
No, you idiots are WRONG. Most people are not killed by their OWN guns. WTF?? You two seem educated, but your rationale is FLAWED. My GUNS are GREAT. It's simple you two. You can either CHOOSE to be a VICTIM or CHOOSE to NOT be a VICTIM. What about "shall NOT be INFRINGED" do yall not understand??? Neither of you have probably ever been hunting or were raised and taught about responsible gun ownership, right?
@NoMAIG The part about the well-regulated militia. You can see me shooting for the first time in my video Road Trip: Shaycarl.
I don't know about the killed by your own gun thing, but when it comes to flawed rationale, the better example is in the many comments in this thread just like yours where people assert that gun ownership makes them substantially safer. There's nowhere near enough homicide to begin with for that to be true. Even suicide is 50% more common. See wikipedia: causes of death
@JoeFelice The issue of gun use for personal defense does not just deal with the threat of homicide, but everything from robbery to rape; it's a mechanism of safety to preserve individual liberty. I've never fired a gun at another person before but I have used a firearm for personal defense; criminals are opportunists, and when presented with immanent lethal force, they will retreat most every time. It is rare for a person's house to burn down, but it is not irrational to own a fire extinquisher
@JoeFelice While guns don't make you safer, they do give you an option to protect yourself from a criminal. Homicide is NOT the only thing a criminal can do to you. Also, guns are not "only used to kill people" (your friend). They are used for recreation, hobby, and competition as well. She's right, some countries in Europe (like England) do have the most stringent gun laws. Results: England's crime rate is rising and ours is falling. They'll meet soon. Don't even get started on Mexico...
The points of view presented here are both very relevant. However, I would like to point out that many people's reasoning for pro-gun legislation stems from antiquated laws and out-dated necessities. Domestic violence and manslaughter are much larger threats now than the need to overthrow the government. Plus, in order to overthrow the entire government (or army for that matter), the citizens would need a lot more than just some guns to do any damage.
The American Revolution was won by just some citizens having guns and we throughout an army. Plus the army is to protect the citizens of this country not the government.
guns are bad? how do you think we became a country by throwing twinkies at the british? Liberal ideas have destroyed this country. A gun is a simple tool it can't be good or bad, people are good or bad. A gun gives a weaker person a chance against the strong. Guns are bad hahaha - makes me sick to here this garbage from a silly girl that hasn't had to stand up and fight for anything except maybe a ticket to lady gaga concert! foolish - very foolish.
Well you do have a point guns are a ggod way for self defence and bad people kill but a bad person without a gun is a lot better than with a gun We may have used guns against the British but its not the 1700's any more we have the army marines and for a "militia" the national gaurd. Instead of looser gun regulations i think we should put more money into our police force
You cant carry a police officer everywhere. Plus bad people dont care for laws so if guns are ban that wont stop a criminal from getting one or using it.
Having been oppressed by a professional army, the founding fathers of the United States had no use for establishing one of their own. Instead, they decided that an armed citizenry makes the best army of all. General George Washington created regulation for the aforementioned "well-regulated militia," which would consist of every able-bodied man in the country.
she's taking her personal opinions and trying to pass them off as fact or "statistics".
the fact of the matter is that the REAL statistics (care of the Centers for Disease Control website) show that gun crime rates DO NOT CHANGE AT ALL when harsher gun restrictions are implemented.
the day that this woman's home is broken into, and she gets raped, tortured, and robbed... her opinions on her right to protect herself with a firearm will change.
this is a topic that will never be resolved , my suggestion is simple; if you don't like guns don't own them, but when you or a loved one's life is threatened do not cower behind a lawfully armed citizen for protection ( including the police) like a lamb to slaughter stand and be killed.... god bless your soul .
a gun in its basic form is incredibly easy to make its a matter of a peice of pipe, a nail, a spring and the intelligence to put 3 peices or metal together. people kill people not guns im in wildlife control and use a gun about once a month probably saved quite a few of 'your' children with my gun. the entire gun control debate is uneducated biggotry on both sides "gun loving hicks" "fags, lesbians and jews" "imbred rednecks" "dumbass liberals" grow up and look at the reality of our situation.
otherwise some will make them of course unregistered, some will turn to gun runners and of course the law abiding citezens will give theirs up but law abiding citezens arent the problem are they? no the law abiding citezens have laws against murder to follow already so theyre taken care of not like you need a law to tell you its not right to kill people but its there, so that leaves the sort of people that break a law that can carry a life sentance or a death sentance... think it through.
i cant make myself naive enough to believe that any law will stop any criminal. to get my gun theyll have to use theirs but i am a responsible gun owner guns dont just jump up and shoot people owning a gun or even 100 guns doesnt make you a murderer or a criminal true it raises the question of why youd need so many but at least legal guns gives some control over who has them
This woman is a hero! God bless her! This is the first step towards repealing the damn 2nd ammendment. which has brought nothing but chaos I mean guns are so available they kill almost as much people as cancer.
I believe anybody except a police officer with a gun should spend 10 years in prison.
These gun owners are the most hateful prejudiced people ever killing our children
God help us Rosie O Donnel. Million Mom March! Brady Campaign!
wrong slave any time you have stricter gun laws you also have higher crime rates. criminals dont care about laws.
"those that would trade liberty for security deserve niether" benjerman franflin you dont understand this concept do you. thats because you are a coolade drinking brainwashed slave for the federal goverment. the same goverment thats run buy discusting ugenisist banker criminals. you know who els loved gun bans? ill give u 3 names hitler stallin and mou sattung.
If you dont like the bill of rights and constitution then get the fuck out of my country. OH buy the way this guy arguing for gun rights is pathetic let me on there and ill tear this sluts arguments apart. no I would not feel safe un armed because the goverment is run buy criminals. those countrys in europe are the biggist police states in the world. thats rite slaves they are bigger police states than north korea. they also have higher crime rate than the us.
@slg1373 Yes, guns do not kill, people do, but it takes a gun to accomplish a scene as far as killing someone with a gun. It's just an additional option and possibility to allow people/ person(s)/ group(s) to kill people. So unless you're a cop or working for the FBI etc..., i really think Guns should be banned. It's 1 path out of the lane for people to be able to kill people/person(s) and/or group(s) and/ or even commit suicide.
ha ha ha ha you think criminals care about laws? They dont. They get guns without a background check. Plus cops with guns are just citizens with a badge. You think cops can be everywhere at once. Innless you want the army to walk around the streets 24/7 like china ha ha
What the hell are you talking about? Cancer kills hundreds of thousands of US citzens every year. Guns kill maybe 800. Most of which are gang bangers killing eachother so its actually slightly beneficial. Also, most gun murders are committed by handguns. Hand guns require permits and classes so they are not "SO AVAILABLE". It is very rare for a law abiding gun owner to commit a crime. Maybe you should focus your stupidity on banning cigarettes.. fucking stupid liberal.
@johnnybravo234 hahahaha guns kill 800 people a year??? what country do you live in?? hahaha ok let me explain it to you... detroit has about 400 murders every year and NY about 600... like 80% of those murders are with guns thats 800 murders right there... and handguns are so available if you aren;'t a criminal shut your mouth
Bout a week ago I was watchn the House of Commons and David Cameron ( prime Minister) was saying. "we need to stop people going around with big knives and killing people in the streets." So what? They ban guns, now all pointy and sharpened objects? What next? They gunna ban bricks? Another "good intention" gone all pear shaped. Weapons bans ONLY harm the lawful and encourage the criminals. That SHOULD be obvious. *quote not verbatim.
@Drewman85 doesn't look like you did yours the last few years have been londons safest in like 20 years, there was a rise in assaults which is where the 35% comes from and rapes have stayed the same but homicides have gone from an average of 160-170 in the early 2000s to 90-100 since 2006, now that's a dramatic drop .
Your statement that the purpose of a gun is to kill is incorrect. The purpose of a gun is to protect loved ones, prevent crime, and ensure freedom. Many statistics show that crime is reduced when the public is armed. Additionaly, History has also shown repeatedly what happens when the public is disarmed (dictatorships, the Holocaust, etc).
OK, The Resident, you say that you don't care what others think and that guns are bad. I assume you want to get rid of them all. I refuse to surrender my guns. How do you propose to take my guns away?
In most cases training police can be beaten with a knife within 25 feet. It shows they cannot properly draw and fire their weapon within the time it takes a knife attacker to gain ground on him. Gun control has made no proven reduction in violent crime or crime in general. Just enforce current laws and trim back ridiculous laws that don't make sense. Think of how many women carry to protect themselves from rape. Bottom line lack of responsibility on the gun owners side in any bad situation.
"Everybody but you loves guns and would not give them up for the world. " Every one where you are from not here. Case in point- you are unbalanced. You want statistics, no problem. Im fine with getting into a war of numbers.
"Due to the lethal potential that a gun brings to a situation, the likelihood that a death will result is significantly increased when either the victim or the attacker has a gun" Cook, Philip J., Mark H. Moore (1995). "Gun Control". in Wilson, James Q., Joan Petersilia. Crime. Institute of Contemporary Studies Press.
Guns are not bad. The bad people that use guns are bad. I view a firearm as a tool to defend myself, take action against a rogue state, kill my game and a form of stress relief (Recreational Use ; IDPA, IPSC, etc). It is no different than a knife. Knives can kill but also they are very useful to get a job done. They are also very dangerous and need to be treated with respect. I own 27 different guns including pistols and long arms. I have ever robbed or killed a human (plenty of game) -
I have used my firearm twice to defend myself from a home invasion. I saved myself and my friends from thieves. I haven't fired a shot in anger. Also most of your information is made up or at least not typical of government ran sites.
Here is a tid bit for you: Kennesaw, Georgia MANDATORY GUN OWNERSHIP PER HOUSEHOLD. Not 1 case of violent crime in over 25 years and counting. If guns are bad why do they save so many? Forgot to mention, Britain banning guns made a 400% increase in crime.
But im sure you are proud of your "huntin" and go as far to say it is "stress relief" and to protect yourself against a "rogue state" ( look up paranoia freak)Thats just pathetic and proof you are unbalanced. You and others like you should have your guns removed by force if necessary and if in the process you resist and wind up getting shot then good. I hate that people like you can call yourselves american. Go read a book not written by Hitler you worthless waste of air
It is been proven that the government (or at least its officials) cannot be trusted. Go look up needless police beatings or people getting arrested for wearing a fucking hat. Who said I have ever read a book written by Hitler? I'm seriously laughing at you man. You use liberal logic and think police are going to save you when in reality police are not legally bound to respond to a call if deemed dangerous. That means it is a possibility they could fuck you and leave you.
You actually believe the remote possibility of harm being done to you is a valid reason to own an arsenal. If guns are harder to get a hold of then gun murders go down. Its that simple. Will innocent people die when someone breaks in or when someone mugs them because they couldnt defend themselves, of course! But that number will pale in comparison to those saved by laws preventing unbalanced paranoid people like you from getting guns in the first place.
People will kill with or without a gun. Wars have been going on ever since there were more than one person. How remote is me defending myself twice in the past year? If guns are harder to get a hold of then you open up a market for smugglers. The more smugglers you have the more they will make money and have higher crime. People like me? I'm going through training to be a federally licensed P.P.O. That means part of the government. Unbalanced my ass.
P.S. what is wrong with having an arsenal? It is part of my hobbies. My family have lots of safe fun with them. They are a defensive tool. I also collect them as a type of gun porn. I think that you buy into the liberal news media a lot and think that every crime has been pulled off with an assault weapon. Which is another retarded subject.
I think people of all politics understand handguns are responsible for most gun crime.
In the 90's there were 1.7 million gun thefts. Given that stolen guns are likely to be used in additional crimes, do you think there should be some sort of penalty for individuals whose guns are stolen, e.g. no new guns for five years?
Well there is no 100% way of keeping guns from being stolen. Even if they are stored in a safe bolted to the wall there are ways of beating that system. Just like any other type of theft is unavoidable unless you are there personally to stop it. So punishing law abiding gun owners from having their baby taken from them seems Nazi to me. Along with that you make good people out to be bad guys and essentially make criminals. There is no gun control that will accomplish what you are thinking.
This idea is just me brainstorming, but it's not comparable to a car. Cars aren't often stolen to enable murder. If you're careless with your property, you're usually the only victim, but with a gun you lose a lot less than the person that gets shot with it.
Some things are dangerous in the wrong hands and are regulated as such. Prescription medications. Some species of animals. If you're not grown up enough to treat these things right you can't just go buy more.
I can understand where you are coming from, but I still don't think a VICTIM should be punished for being robbed.
So if I have my gun in a safe, with a trigger lock on and my house has multiple locks and an alarm system (all precautions taken) and some criminal breaks in and steals my gun.....I get punished? In this scenerio, according to you, I would not be "grown up" enough? Please explain how that is.
@JoeFelice Really? Stolen cars are used to commit or escape from a criminal act 200 times more than a legally registered car. Auto crashes remain the #1 killer of Americans. No cry to ban them. Cars are equally dangerous in the wrong hands, criminals running from police kill thousands in crashes every year. 27,750 gun laws curre3ntly on the books, ENFORCE them, don't need more. A convicted felon in possession of a fire arm under current law, should go to prison for five years on that alone.
Ok douchebag- you are a moron. Your red neck comments dont matter. You claim knives are as dangerous as guns. This means you dropped out of school ( or perhaps never went in the first place) in the second grade. Your statistics are made up and you should be arrested for killing innocent animals. We now have super markets which make murdering wild animals needless.
I can kill you faster with a knife vs a gun depending on how close I am to you. So yes in some cases knives are more dangerous than guns. I'm in college and working on my third year. Who cares if I'm killing an animal? I'm also a butcher just fyi.
In Australia From 1996 to 2003, the total number of gun deaths each year fell from 521 to 289 due to the removal by the government of 700,000 firearms after the Port Arthur massacre in Tasmania in 1996. By 2002/03, Australia's rate of 0.27 firearm-related homicides per 100,000 population had dropped to one-fifteenth that of the United States. That's what good gun control can do. According the NYTimes, in 2004, 81 Americans died every day from gunfire.
Gun control does nothing but incriminate legal law abiding citizens because of unforeseen takes on what the law means. Well lets compare population, we have a much higher population therefore you will have higher crime to keep up with a ratio. Meaning one fifteenth that of the United states is keeping with that ratio because we have a higher population.
Yes Americans die everyday from gunfire. Think if you somehow take away 100% (theoretical it won't happen) of guns. Then people will start murdering people with other things. I much rather hear about gun murders than stabbings; vehicular man slaughter, burnings, strangulation or any other type of murder chances are you will suffer more due to anything else. The only difference is it will be harder to defend yourself against these types of threats.
1. Gun control restricts law abiding citizens whom you want to have guns. People who exercise open carry or CCW are your friends when police can't respond in time.
2. My arsenal is a hobby like any other hobby. On top of that it is defensive and I have military and police models as a form of training on my own.
3. Yes my whole point was personal responsibility on the part of the gun owners.
I rather have slightly increased crime and the ability to defend myself vs little less crime and none
1. Gun control restricts EVERYONE from owning guns law abiding, criminal and those with the potential to become criminal
2. Your arsenal is a hobby- not like every other hobby which means you need a new hobby
3. Nice to expect personal responsibility but little is demonstrated and therefore can not be relied upon
4 Why are you so concerned with "your ability to defend yourself"? Do you live in a dangerous area? If so, stop spending on guns or sell them and move
1. Gun control restricts criminals only because the law abiding will actually follow the law. Criminals by definition will not. If so needed someone can make a firearm out of some pipe, and some skill with wielding.
2. Hobby just like any other hobby used properly and cared for. Hobby just like any other American. Hobby is something that you take interest in and have enjoyment from, it matches both those criteria.
4. I have been broken into twice and car jacked almost.
I will give you the benefit of the doubt ( and based on some of your previous comments thats not easy) and say you really are law abiding and your guns wont fall into the wrong hands. So how about we compromise? Keep the guns you already have and restrict the unnecessary production of new ones. And make getting a gun almost impossible unless purchased illegally. How does that sound?
You will see that you are outnumbered on this situation. Give it up man. Everybody but you loves guns and would not give them up for the world. I think it is great because you base your whole argument on opinion opinion opinion and have no facts to back them up. If you'd like I'll send you some links to the sites I have seen with the information I have used. Hmm who seems like a red neck now? Person who gets angry and bases everything on opinion or someone who backs it up with citations?
If you really do consume what you shoot and you are hunting animals whose populations are far from endangered then I suppose its acceptable. But how many hunters do so simply for a trophy rather than consumption? You would have to agree, a great deal. Thats a barbaric practice.
There is a lot less trophy hunting going on than sustenance hunting. No true hunter goes trophy hunting. Trophy hunting does happen and I am completely against it.
My main point was to disprove the statement that the killing of wild animals is not needed due to having supermarkets. I could not afford to feed my family if I had to purchase all my meat at the supermarket.
Valid point. Under your stated circumstances hunting does offer a viable as well as ethical solution. But as far as I can tell, most hunters do so for sport not necessity.
these nerds definitely dont go shooting. also their facts are wrong. they will ultimately become victims if something ever happened. resident you are an idiot. england banned guns and crime went up. now they have a war on knives. when will you idiots learn. CRIMINALS DONT OBEY GUN L AWS. when you install gun control you punish law abiding citizens who have guns for protection. all gun control does is make it easier for the criminals to do their job. gun free zones. another joke.
She will wish she had one if someone brakes into he home....oh NO!!!stop or i'll pull out my cellphone!!!! For me i'll pull out my 12ga pump loaded with 00buck then the cell phone.....
I'd also like to ask everyone if they think the guy on the left would need a weapon to kill the woman on our right. If that man wanted to rape, rob, or kill that woman and only use his hands, could that tiny little girl stop him with her hands or her cell phone? What would she have to do to stop the guy? How do you think she could survive an attack from her friend that decided he as going to rape or kill her? I know they're friends and he would not do this to her, but if he did, what can she do?
You don't need to think hypothetically about her and me when the USA is already a laboratory for that situation. Women have the right to own guns. Studying how having that right affects sexual assaults is infinitely more valuable than trying to use reason to guess what would happen in imagined circumstances.
I hope I didn't offend you by using you and her as an example. I only did that just because it's easy to see the size difference between the 2 of you.
I'm not offended, I got your intent. Though as comments have accumulated in the year since this went up, I have gotten a better idea of what it's like to be a woman on YouTube.
1:10 she is wrong. Most people are killed by drug violence and not by their own guns.
3:22 every one of those countries have seen a rise in violent crime after they installed gun bans.
You seem like a nice enough lady, you're just uninformed on this subject. Picture the moment a large man jumps into your car, shows you his knife and tells you to drive to a dark alley. You're about to be raped and maybe killed after. Would you then wish you had a tool that could stop that man?
The 2nd amendment isn't there for wild west, or hunting, or sportsmanship. The 2nd amendment is there for protection, protection against oppressive persons, or governments, and was mainly made to protect US the people from our own government becoming oppressive.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"
REGULATED MILITIA: TRAINED
SECURITY TO A FREE STATE = SECURITY AGAINST TYRANNICAL STATE
I agree with most of that, but you're not going to like where I take exception. How is it that so many conservative and libertarian self-proclaimed constitutionalists can read the amendment and not see that the emphasis, the motive, lies on giving state militias the power to act as independent military powers?
Do you really think the landed gentry were intentionally paving the way for the Nat Turners and John Browns of the world?
I don't know how you figure that a bill, full of individual rights, included a right (2nd amendment) for the government. We had just fought against a government that was abusing it's power as we seen it. That is why the framers gave the "people" the right to keep and bear arms. You can even read quotes from the framers that wrote and added the 2nd amendment to the bill of rights that will prove they believed in the people, as individuals have a right to arm themselves.
I thought you had a point for a second and then I remembered the tenth. I would like to see the quotes you're referring to though.
In any case, the text explains why the people have this right: to participate in a state militia. The law contains an expression of its own purpose, which is quite rare, and this exceptional component greatly informs the proper application of its principals. Sadly ignored by the current court.
Alexander Hamilton said people should not fear a federal government, because they would remain armed,
Patrick Henry The great objective is that every man be armed ... . Everyone who is able may have a gun
"The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that... it is their right and duty to be at all times armed." Thomas Jefferson
Patrick Henry questioned how the people could resist a tyrant if their arms had been taken from them.
Nuclear Bombs? Really? Are you that much of a liberal? And please enlighten us on the source that states that more people are killed by their own guns. Guns are inanimate objects it takes someone to pull the trigger just like it takes someone to turn a car on after spending all night at a bar. Please look up gun control in England and Australia and the skyrocket of crime since bans were put into effect.
Another point i want to make ( ill let you respond) Is Why should we take guns away or control severely if more people are killed by cars then guns? I mean a car is a deadly weapon and we just hand out licenses like candy? I know since i go to Highschool and ALL the kids i know are IDIOTS! Mommy and Daddy pay for everything so they dont care. One kid has gotten 3 accidents in 2 months! Let alone the fact that why the hell do people care if honest good citizens have a gun? Now ill wait for you
Oh, I'm with you there. I'm the pro-gun guy in this video. If the people want them legal, and are comfortable with the cost of life incurred, then a government of the people should keep them legal.
History of government and it's power over the people??? 2nd was written for reasons! "If" it can abuse it's position what is your means of self protection and not just from the "government". 2:50ish.. Extreme situation.. oh that never happens. Only purpose for a gun is to kill people? If your a 110 lbs girl and a 250 lbs man (or more) come into your home (nobody with a gun) uninvited... your recourse? It is a means to an end...
No, I know plenty examples of tyrannical government dumbasses, I want an example of private armed citizens averting tyranny in the modern age. The Revolution and the Constitution are both of an era when private arms and military arms were comparable. If I were to become the American Joseph Stalin today, with the military obediently at my command, I don't think I'd lose much sleep over your armed civilian uprising. I think what protects us is prosperity, democracy, education...guns are a prop.
Wow this is stupid... Total jackasses morons. These two people are what's turning a once wonderful country to shit!

Oh, when the criminals are coming in the window, statistics wont stop them.

why do gun control advocates most often compare us to european nations?
is it just me or did the last two world wars not occur there?
and for what reasons? despots and dictators!
we intervened (with guns) and ended the massacring that was taking place.
"a gun behind every blade of grass" seems like a pretty good deterrent to invaders.
maybe they're talking about "peaceful" european nations like Hungary(1956),
Ireland(IRA),the Balkans(1990's),Greece(now),Italy(mafia),or Russia(chechnya)?
USSR?

gun laws arent going to keep the lawless from owning weapons its only going to keep law abiding citizens from owning weapons thus leaving citizens vulnerable to crime

What do you have to say about that?
fixdeluxe1 8 months ago
@fixdeluxe1 First, I agree 100%. I have owned guns for 25+ years and I have never had any accidents either.
What do they say about that? You (and I) are just beer swilling rednecks and NRA flunkies who unwittingly support the gun industry. Its just a matter of time before we shoot each other over some minor disagreement.
They have been perfecting this gun control scam for decades. The assault weapons ban? Gun registration? None of it has ever worked..

@rb2112002 I live in New Zealand(right next to aussie) and the Kiwi attitude to guns is far better. What did you expect from a nation of convicts?

@fixdeluxe1 Yea, thats what I told him too. I said that he wants people disarmed because he is probably still a criminal. I told him that in this country (US) the criminals are the biggest supporters of gun control. One day I hope to visit your country. A co-worker of mine went there on vacation. He loved it. What are your gun laws like? Can you carry concealed? Are certain guns restricted? I can buy any gun without a background check and carry any handgun concealed. God Bless Texas..
rb2112002 6 months ago
@rb2112002 Well,of course handguns are extremely hard to come by here(for sports shooters only) but getting an A-category license is a breeze(for hunting rifles and shotguns).Registration only for Military Style Semi-automatics,pistols and automatic weapons.Good proportion of gun owners, and little anti-gun sentiment.Far better than australia(which is racist, xenophobic uneducated shithole I might add).
fixdeluxe1 6 months ago
@fixdeluxe1 Thats interesting. As far as handguns, how do you become a "sport shooter"? Im confused because you say later that pistols can be registered. We have argued against registration for years. The funny thing is that where the most restrictive laws are, there seems to be higher gun crime. Your neighbors had a spike in crime after they took all their guns away. I'm not sure which I like less, the criminals, or the politicians that protect them..
rb2112002 6 months ago
@rb2112002 I did a paper on gun control for my political science degree, and I used statistics of increased violent crime, burglary and robbery rates in Australia as one of my foundations for my argument. To become a sports shooter, you join a licensed pistol club, and handguns must be registered. Not many owners here(apart from myself and a few thousand others).Look up a guy called "Kiwitedferny".He is a gun collector here in NZ>
fixdeluxe1 6 months ago
@fixdeluxe1 Sorry, didn't see your last post. When I talk to Aussies here, they seem to think that the crime rate went down? I'm not sure how that would be possible because the criminals were never affected by the law. I guess that's what happens when you combine a meaningless, emotional law with a slick marketing campaign? It was sad to watch all those guns getting cut up. There was a Springfield '03. It was probably a family heirloom and definitely a piece of history. Now its scrap.
rb2112002 6 months ago
@rb2112002 It went up.And they refuse to acknowledge that because it would represent a failure.
fixdeluxe1 6 months ago
@fixdeluxe1 Yea, they do the same here. They manipulate the stats until they say what they want them to say. Its really sad that people can be lied to on such a large scale and actually turn against each other because the govt told them to. Scary stuff..
rb2112002 6 months ago
@rb2112002 Very sad.

CarbonGrips 10 months ago
And in the four years from 1997 to 2001, the rate of violent crime more than doubled. 1997 was the year handguns were banned.Your chances of being mugged in London are now six times greater than in New York. 53 percent of English burglaries occur while occupants are at home, compared with 13 percent in the U.S., I got all this info from reason.com
SAMSIZZLE123 11 months ago
So I just did some research to fix my 400% bullshit. In englans, there were only 3 homocides by handgun between 1890 and 1992. 2 years after the handgun ban, violence and robbery increased 40% with the use of hand guns and the upward trend continues. From April to November 2001, the number of people robbed at gunpoint in London rose 53 percent. From 1991 to 1995, crimes against the person in England's inner cities increased 91 percent. This is when the bans firrst started taking place.

The criminals will still be armed just as they are in US cities with strict gun control.
shurnee 1 year ago
This is a pretty complex topic and you really cannot have two opinions well represented in 4 minutes.
BTW, statistics DO NOT show that most people are killed by their own guns.
I'm a gun owner and avid shooter. I'd give up my guns IF it would make a difference. It wouldn't. The criminals, crazies, muggers and murderers will still be armed and my giving up my firearms would just take one well trained law abiding citizen out of the mix. This is a net loss.
shurnee 1 year ago
How can any woman be for gun control? If you truly limit the number of guns in society the criminals simply look for weaker targets. Who is that? Look at the UK. Women are mugged, raped and violently attacked more than before they had strict gun control. Index crime against women in the UK is roughly 2x higher than the US. This is supported by the body of the literature. As a woman and forensic psych I am unwilling to increase my chances of being victimized so someone feels good about a law.

NoMAIG 1 year ago 3
@NoMAIG The part about the well-regulated militia. You can see me shooting for the first time in my video Road Trip: Shaycarl.
I don't know about the killed by your own gun thing, but when it comes to flawed rationale, the better example is in the many comments in this thread just like yours where people assert that gun ownership makes them substantially safer. There's nowhere near enough homicide to begin with for that to be true. Even suicide is 50% more common. See wikipedia: causes of death
JoeFelice 1 year ago
@JoeFelice The issue of gun use for personal defense does not just deal with the threat of homicide, but everything from robbery to rape; it's a mechanism of safety to preserve individual liberty. I've never fired a gun at another person before but I have used a firearm for personal defense; criminals are opportunists, and when presented with immanent lethal force, they will retreat most every time. It is rare for a person's house to burn down, but it is not irrational to own a fire extinquisher
RebelWrestler45 1 year ago

20hiddenninja 2 years ago
i cant make myself naive enough to believe that any law will stop any criminal. to get my gun theyll have to use theirs but i am a responsible gun owner guns dont just jump up and shoot people owning a gun or even 100 guns doesnt make you a murderer or a criminal true it raises the question of why youd need so many but at least legal guns gives some control over who has them

slg1373 2 years ago 3
@slg1373 Yes, guns do not kill, people do, but it takes a gun to accomplish a scene as far as killing someone with a gun. It's just an additional option and possibility to allow people/ person(s)/ group(s) to kill people. So unless you're a cop or working for the FBI etc..., i really think Guns should be banned. It's 1 path out of the lane for people to be able to kill people/person(s) and/or group(s) and/ or even commit suicide.

I have ever robbed or killed a human (plenty of game) -
my24939 2 years ago
I have used my firearm twice to defend myself from a home invasion. I saved myself and my friends from thieves. I haven't fired a shot in anger. Also most of your information is made up or at least not typical of government ran sites.
Here is a tid bit for you: Kennesaw, Georgia MANDATORY GUN OWNERSHIP PER HOUSEHOLD. Not 1 case of violent crime in over 25 years and counting. If guns are bad why do they save so many? Forgot to mention, Britain banning guns made a 400% increase in crime.
my24939 2 years ago
But im sure you are proud of your "huntin" and go as far to say it is "stress relief" and to protect yourself against a "rogue state" ( look up paranoia freak)Thats just pathetic and proof you are unbalanced. You and others like you should have your guns removed by force if necessary and if in the process you resist and wind up getting shot then good. I hate that people like you can call yourselves american. Go read a book not written by Hitler you worthless waste of air
blankoecho 2 years ago
It is been proven that the government (or at least its officials) cannot be trusted. Go look up needless police beatings or people getting arrested for wearing a fucking hat. Who said I have ever read a book written by Hitler? I'm seriously laughing at you man. You use liberal logic and think police are going to save you when in reality police are not legally bound to respond to a call if deemed dangerous. That means it is a possibility they could fuck you and leave you.
my24939 2 years ago
You actually believe the remote possibility of harm being done to you is a valid reason to own an arsenal. If guns are harder to get a hold of then gun murders go down. Its that simple. Will innocent people die when someone breaks in or when someone mugs them because they couldnt defend themselves, of course! But that number will pale in comparison to those saved by laws preventing unbalanced paranoid people like you from getting guns in the first place.
blankoecho 2 years ago
People will kill with or without a gun. Wars have been going on ever since there were more than one person. How remote is me defending myself twice in the past year? If guns are harder to get a hold of then you open up a market for smugglers. The more smugglers you have the more they will make money and have higher crime. People like me? I'm going through training to be a federally licensed P.P.O. That means part of the government. Unbalanced my ass.
my24939 2 years ago
P.S. what is wrong with having an arsenal? It is part of my hobbies. My family have lots of safe fun with them. They are a defensive tool. I also collect them as a type of gun porn. I think that you buy into the liberal news media a lot and think that every crime has been pulled off with an assault weapon. Which is another retarded subject.
my24939 2 years ago
I think people of all politics understand handguns are responsible for most gun crime.
In the 90's there were 1.7 million gun thefts. Given that stolen guns are likely to be used in additional crimes, do you think there should be some sort of penalty for individuals whose guns are stolen, e.g. no new guns for five years?
JoeFelice 2 years ago
Well there is no 100% way of keeping guns from being stolen. Even if they are stored in a safe bolted to the wall there are ways of beating that system. Just like any other type of theft is unavoidable unless you are there personally to stop it. So punishing law abiding gun owners from having their baby taken from them seems Nazi to me. Along with that you make good people out to be bad guys and essentially make criminals. There is no gun control that will accomplish what you are thinking.
my24939 2 years ago
I don't think there should be a penalty for a victim of a crime.
Should the same thing apply to something like cars? If your car is stolen then you can't buy another one again for five years?
USDAChuckSteak 2 years ago 2
This idea is just me brainstorming, but it's not comparable to a car. Cars aren't often stolen to enable murder. If you're careless with your property, you're usually the only victim, but with a gun you lose a lot less than the person that gets shot with it.
Some things are dangerous in the wrong hands and are regulated as such. Prescription medications. Some species of animals. If you're not grown up enough to treat these things right you can't just go buy more.
JoeFelice 2 years ago
I can understand where you are coming from, but I still don't think a VICTIM should be punished for being robbed.
So if I have my gun in a safe, with a trigger lock on and my house has multiple locks and an alarm system (all precautions taken) and some criminal breaks in and steals my gun.....I get punished? In this scenerio, according to you, I would not be "grown up" enough? Please explain how that is.
Hopefully you can see where I am coming from.
USDAChuckSteak 2 years ago
@JoeFelice Really? Stolen cars are used to commit or escape from a criminal act 200 times more than a legally registered car. Auto crashes remain the #1 killer of Americans. No cry to ban them. Cars are equally dangerous in the wrong hands, criminals running from police kill thousands in crashes every year. 27,750 gun laws curre3ntly on the books, ENFORCE them, don't need more. A convicted felon in possession of a fire arm under current law, should go to prison for five years on that alone.
Nicodemus98 1 year ago
That makes no sense. Your trying to punish the victim. How about life in prison for anyone that steals the gun.
slg1373 2 years ago
Ok douchebag- you are a moron. Your red neck comments dont matter. You claim knives are as dangerous as guns. This means you dropped out of school ( or perhaps never went in the first place) in the second grade. Your statistics are made up and you should be arrested for killing innocent animals. We now have super markets which make murdering wild animals needless.
blankoecho 2 years ago
I can kill you faster with a knife vs a gun depending on how close I am to you. So yes in some cases knives are more dangerous than guns. I'm in college and working on my third year. Who cares if I'm killing an animal? I'm also a butcher just fyi.
my24939 2 years ago
In Australia From 1996 to 2003, the total number of gun deaths each year fell from 521 to 289 due to the removal by the government of 700,000 firearms after the Port Arthur massacre in Tasmania in 1996. By 2002/03, Australia's rate of 0.27 firearm-related homicides per 100,000 population had dropped to one-fifteenth that of the United States. That's what good gun control can do. According the NYTimes, in 2004, 81 Americans died every day from gunfire.
blankoecho 2 years ago
Gun control does nothing but incriminate legal law abiding citizens because of unforeseen takes on what the law means. Well lets compare population, we have a much higher population therefore you will have higher crime to keep up with a ratio. Meaning one fifteenth that of the United states is keeping with that ratio because we have a higher population.
my24939 2 years ago
Yes Americans die everyday from gunfire. Think if you somehow take away 100% (theoretical it won't happen) of guns. Then people will start murdering people with other things. I much rather hear about gun murders than stabbings; vehicular man slaughter, burnings, strangulation or any other type of murder chances are you will suffer more due to anything else. The only difference is it will be harder to defend yourself against these types of threats.
my24939 2 years ago
Four Points: 1, restrict guns and gun related murders go down- not away- DOWN
2 The problem with hording an arsenal is its not necessary ( unless you wrongly believe the police and government are out to get you- paranoid)
3 You might use these weapons for recreation ( which means you need to find another hobby) but far too many do not
4 I gave you stats with sources and you responded with your opinion
blankoecho 2 years ago
I rather have slightly increased crime and the ability to defend myself vs little less crime and none
my24939 2 years ago 2
If so, stop spending on guns or sell them and move
blankoecho 2 years ago
4. I have been broken into twice and car jacked almost.
my24939 2 years ago
I will give you the benefit of the doubt ( and based on some of your previous comments thats not easy) and say you really are law abiding and your guns wont fall into the wrong hands. So how about we compromise? Keep the guns you already have and restrict the unnecessary production of new ones. And make getting a gun almost impossible unless purchased illegally. How does that sound?
blankoecho 2 years ago
Depends on which ones you wish to restrict.

If you really do consume what you shoot and you are hunting animals whose populations are far from endangered then I suppose its acceptable. But how many hunters do so simply for a trophy rather than consumption? You would have to agree, a great deal. Thats a barbaric practice.
blankoecho 2 years ago
There is a lot less trophy hunting going on than sustenance hunting. No true hunter goes trophy hunting. Trophy hunting does happen and I am completely against it.

SECURITY TO A FREE STATE = SECURITY AGAINST TYRANNICAL STATE
kwswickedness 2 years ago
I agree with most of that, but you're not going to like where I take exception. How is it that so many conservative and libertarian self-proclaimed constitutionalists can read the amendment and not see that the emphasis, the motive, lies on giving state militias the power to act as independent military powers?
Do you really think the landed gentry were intentionally paving the way for the Nat Turners and John Browns of the world?
A third definition for your glossary:
bear arms = go to war
JoeFelice 2 years ago
I don't know how you figure that a bill, full of individual rights, included a right (2nd amendment) for the government. We had just fought against a government that was abusing it's power as we seen it. That is why the framers gave the "people" the right to keep and bear arms. You can even read quotes from the framers that wrote and added the 2nd amendment to the bill of rights that will prove they believed in the people, as individuals have a right to arm themselves.
jboritzki 2 years ago
I thought you had a point for a second and then I remembered the tenth. I would like to see the quotes you're referring to though.
In any case, the text explains why the people have this right: to participate in a state militia. The law contains an expression of its own purpose, which is quite rare, and this exceptional component greatly informs the proper application of its principals. Sadly ignored by the current court.
JoeFelice 2 years ago

Patrick Henry The great objective is that every man be armed ... . Everyone who is able may have a gun
