I sang this song one day, and my five and a half year old daughter rolled her eyes at me NOT believing this was actually a song! I found this video and she laughed!

The original novelty song was "I Love Onions", recorded by Susan Christie in 1966 (and it's been posted on YouTube).

Then, in 1969, it became "I Love Funyuns", for the commercial launching Funyuns snacks (also posted on YouTube).

And, at about the same time, it became "I Love Turtles", for what became the long-running series of commercials for Turtles chocolates.

Turtles are the best chocolates. Ever. They are a Canadian staple and always make the rounds every Christmas, Easter, etc. To this day this is the jingle I sing whenever I see a box of Turtles. It's habit. I can't stop it.

Someone has posted a video of their kids lip-synching to the original recording of "I Love Onions". Unfortunately, YouTube's compression software sent it way out of synch with the visuals, but at least you can hear the original song that led to this ad.

This ad campaign ran for years. Co-incidentally Frito-Lay loved the "I Love Onions" song too...so much that they used it to launch their Funyuns snacks, in about 1968. In fact, the Funyuns commercial may still be up on YouTube somewhere.
