  • wow pretty damn good... I used to watch the show when it was called New Voyages, i didn't know you all were still producing stuff... Link that stuff to me man.....

  • YE GODS!! Hands down the best fan made Trek footage I have EVER seen! Please, please do more!

  • @MrPixel42 Thanks, that's really kind of you to say :) My days doing f/x for fan productions are over, though. The truth is, it takes an enormous amount of time, and I just can't afford to do that much work for free. That said, if I ever strike it rich, I'll dive right back in ;)

  • @JoelB71 The time, effort and talent that went into those shots is more than obvious. Did you also do the rest of the FX shots from the episode? (i.e. blood worms, phaser disruptions etc..) I just finished the first 5 segments of Blood and Fire and it is amazing! I'm a die hard Trek fan since my diaper days watching TOS it was great to watch a new episode. Honestly loved it!!

  • @MrPixel42 The initial, closeup bloodworm shot was done by another artist. I did the rest, as well as all the phaser fire and disintegrations, and lots of airbrushing work that hopefully isn't noticeable. Really glad you enjoyed the episode :)

  • The scene choreography looks great (probably THE best fan Trek CGI battle sequence I have ever seen). Was this sequence storyboarded because it seems to have a very nice flow to it (the spinning Klingon launching a torpedo in mid spin was most excellent). Were you given a free hand at this or did Cawley and company have a specific theme in mind with how the fight progressed?

  • @JMChladek Thanks for the kind words! The external shots for the battle were described in general terms in the script, with a couple of details here and there. I added a fair bit to it (because it was a fun opportunity and also because I'm a glutten for punishment ;) ) and storyboarded the whole sequence to make it easier to organize the flow of the battle.

  • how can i make a video like this?

  • @LiberalsUtopian Expensive software, 16 text books on how to use the software and lots of free time. For more info go to Star Trek New Voyages.com

  • Oh, that was a cool vid. Really nice work.

  • NICE!!!!! If only it was really done that way!!!

  • damn enterprise getting fucked up

  • Excellent Job!

  • Awesome job!

  • That was great! Good to see nice animations of the ships messing each other up good!

  • Once again, thanks for all the kind words, you guys. Really puts a smile on my face :)

  • Excellent work!

  • Wow! It's not just a vanity show, you put a lot of thought into the choreography. I love how the first shot is a miss (and we enter the battle mid-stride because the nacelle is already on fire) and then when the Klingon ship is spinning, the Klingons wait until they are aimed at the Enterprise before firing. Brilliant!

  • Sweet

  • Ok I need to see this series!

  • That is a very nicely done combat sequence. Really honors the original series well, but way more exciting than what their budget allowed.

  • excillent work, but I dont think battle cruisers could cloak, still wicked cool!

  • pretty cool stuff !

  • Khemorex Klinzhai!

  • so totaly awesome!

  • WOW, This is Great!!!!

  • What is the title of that battle theme? Or where can I find it?

  • great job

  • OUCH! Right through the N!

  • Wonderful job! The flaming nacelle reminded me of WWII bomber's engines on fire.

  • Thanks for all the feedback! This sequence took tons of work, but I loved every minute of it!

  • @JoelB71 If only we could have seen something like this in the original. I love classic Navy stories and some of the most thrilling scenes from any "Star Trek" - among the best at showcasing the training and strength of the captains and crews - were when ships like an Enterprise or Defiant or Voyager were at their best, fighting for their lives.

  • @JoelB71 This is fantastic, I just found it. The nacelle on fire is a bit not quite what you would see in space, no big deal, but the torps and phasers punching through the hulls is what grabbed me. Very good, those look solid!

  • Come on! It's bad enough that I had to see her die in The Search For Spock, but THIS?!? The poor girl's on fire, leaking plasma, and she's wounded! Might as well let the Klingon ship euthanize her!

  • I agree but I always wondered how a D7 could do this kind of damage to the enterprise when in elaan of troyus episode the enterprise took out a D7 quite easily. Also why is the Enterprise restricted to only phasers when the D7 is firing nothing but torpedoes?

  • Alright, I'm teased. We want more...thank you for your great work!

  • Better than a lot of the "official" remastered VFX

  • most impressive

  • That was BRILLIANT! I thought it was from a real episode for a minute!

  • ... That was fucking awesome dude :O

  • I don't like to see a Federation ship suffer.

  • Hey, thanks everybody :) Lots more coming for Part 2!

    - Joel

  • I agree

  • your work on this was really, really excellent! I've watched this countless times and am blown away by your artistry. It's thrilling that individuals, not studios, are able to produce such quality.

  • Oh hell yeah!

  • Nice work man, nice work.

    --Verg. ;)

  • Thank you, sir :)

  • Now thats what you call battle dammage! Incidentally , The Enterprise D would have had a warp core breach if it had sustained such a shot to it's warp nacelle.

  • Yeah, the poor D would breach at the drop of a hat. Any hat.

  • @JoelB71

They just don't make em like they use to.
