Canon EOS utility - Control camera with computer

Oh, Canon friends, help me out: Canon EOS 400D I have, and the EOS Utility software BUT is does NOT give me LIVE VIEW just preview after I took a pic... ??? Even the software interface is different, seems like older version? Today Installed EOS Utility 2.9, but is the same I have, without LIVE VIEW! It isn't working with 400D?

if you installed lion before installing eos utility: go to canons website and download the latest update

Or if not have it installed: download the latest software from canon and search for installing eos utility with out cd

@drumguitar101 You should be able to download it from the Canon site. Eos Utility is the name for tethering camera to the computer.

@AvecAngie Not that I am aware. This program only uses USB connection and computer control. A remote would be of no use with this program. (that I can see)

@nate42nd Thanks for clearing that up for me. I guess what I'm trying to figure out is a way to see live view on a bigger screen (laptop?) while at the same time being able to control what it does (taking a photo) away from the laptop and camera. Is there anyway to do this?

@AvecAngie A wireless remote will do just that. Wireless shutter release sounds like what you want. Search Amazon for them. Get on compatible with your camera model.

@Mo3run Yes, you can use it to shoot time lapse. It just needs to be attached to a computer. You may also need to update it. I'm not sure when they added that function. I think it's been there for a while.

@WestCoastMods Wow! to be honest I don't know for sure but I assume it will capture in RAW. I don;t see why not. Almost any setting can be changed including all sizes of image. 98% sure it will. All the best.

@rodbo I was just wondering about this yesterday. I had a video made up for it, but I can't figure out a way. I'll bet there is software out there to do it, but Canon software won't let you tie into your internet connection. If I find a way I will do a vid on it. Heck of a question!

@MCboxing I don't know if the EOS utility will work on a MAC, btu I believe it will! The rest of the software will. (some of it since if gives you the option when installing) You will love the 7D. all the best!

thank you so much for your video!! i was looking for a programme with live view and didn´t realize i already have one!! i´m planing a few film-projects and it´s really helpfull to see whats going on at the laptop and not only at a 2,5 inch monitor. thanks again, i´d never figured that out by myself...! now i don´t have to buy a seperate monitor..! thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks! :D

Yeah, Canon has had this software in a variety of forms over the years. For non SLR cameras it's called "Canon Remote Capture" and pretty much offers the same functionality only the interface isn't as slick, but then again the last time I used it was 4 or 5 years ago with my Canon A40. Back in the days of dinosaurs and covered wagons....

@NoxTekDotCom I knew it had been around for a while. You don't hear much about it. I think it's pretty cool. I may slap it on a laptop and see what I can do with it.
