  • I was expecting it to be the other way around, but thanks for sharing your experience with us. :-)

  • They should definitely be called comic magazines!

  • Not sure why...ur not to attractive. No offense

  • Well our local comicbookshop (Austin Books) has a pretty broad fanbase of men, women, kids, and families and even has female employees (as well as male employees) who make recommendations as to what books they think are worth reading. Not that the "boys only" comic shops aren't still a factor; but IMHO any comic shop that doesn't grow beyond that type of fanbase and doesn't try to get a variety of customers in this day and age won't have much of a future for it.

  • @cha5 Good note! If we ever get down to Austin, we'll be sure to stop by!

  • this is awesome :) thanks for making me laugh :)

It must be pretty awkward ...It never happened to me... so I guess in Italy it's different, here they don't care ( or maybe ... I never noticed it, ...mhhh I'll pay attention next time to see if I was just being clueless or not )

    :D

  • @JJonghyun23 We love making nerds laugh! Thanks for the comment!

  • i got to my local shop every Wednesday and no one does that, thankfully. instead they're all like "Hey, what did you think of last week's Blah Blah issue?" I usually spend 1-2 hours in there every time talking with the clerks and other customers about what we're reading and what we recommend. And I'm rarely the only woman in the store, I can usually count on seeing a couple of other familiar women in there every week, eager to chat with another female comic fan. I love my shop.

  • @Gambitgirl1974 That's awesome! Where's your shop?

  • @kevinreader

Sci Fi Genre in Durham, NC. it's small and awesome.

  • 0:39 for ONE SECOND I thought that was Tahmoh Penikett lmao.

  • That dude at 0:15 is DEFINITELY Kevin Smith. LOL.

Great job Nerdologues, thanks for the laugh.

  • @BenoitHoguealot It IS Kevin Smith.* Thanks!

    *Not true.

  • Oh I feel your pain! Being a comic fan AND gamer who happens to be female, I get all kinds of entertaining reactions. I have had someone shout with surprised aggravation "There's a GIRL in the GAME ROOM?!?!?" like I was treading on sacred ground.

  • nice guys!

  • There's this comic shop that I got to that has, like, a tiny section dedicated to, like, girly comics and mangas which is always filled with girls, but the second I walk towards the new Batman, every guy's eye is on me. It's so awkward. Especially when I wear something vaguely girly, like a skirt or something. O~O

  • Could be that this does not happen here in Portugal, but this kinda smells of Special Snowflake Syndrome. Also you could probably find some opensource dramatic or suspense music to add to that awkward part - wouldn't make it a lot more funnier, but it'd help.

  • If she and he friends were inspired to make this video, then that is obviously her experience (exaggerated of course.) If comic book fanboys are shocked and confused at the presence of a woman in a comic book store (and she is not the only person to make a similar point) then that means a vast majority of readers are guys. So why are there complaints about the lack of women talent in super hero comics and abundance of sexy female images. It's a 99% hetero male audience. Comic must cater to them

  • @thoomolong As far as I am concerned, this is an excellent case as to why 'Batgirl' (from SDCC) and the 'Women In Refrigerator' crowd can be ignored. According to this (again, this video isn't the only one to make this point) women not merely "in the minority" in the comics community, they are are virtually extinct! Therefore, why should the big two cater to the female audience at all?

  • maybe they ran away becaues they are afraid of her hair???

  • the production of this video had monkey cast

  • No one even notices in Australia if you're female.

  • @factorycreated what makes us different?

*waits for thesis on the subject*

  • @1991MRjesse No difference? Males just aren't phased if you're a female when you walk in where I live. Everyone is too busy browsing comics to care.

  • @factorycreated aha. well, i wouldn't know...i've been indenting to visit one for 10 years.

  • OK. Now everyone just take in the manner in which it was intended and laugh, smile, smirk or roll your eyes in disgust. But please, don't take it seriously. Get over yourselves.

Oh, and the ass who said she wasn't hot probably thinks his inflatable doll's boobs are natural because they were on the doll when he bought her.

  • I'm aware it's an exaggeration.

    It's just not funny.

  • Freaks

  • As a girl, I can attest to this uncomfortableness. No guys literally get up and run away, and some don't care, but others stare or speak condescendingly. I've often had male workers treat me like I don't know what I'm looking for or react with surprise or shock when I actually know what I'm talking about. I even had a guy follow me around a store once and make surprised comments whenever I'd pick anything up. However, other times nothing has happened. Some guys are just weird, and some are fine.

  • Lol I have the middle guy's Spider-Man shirt, and I bought it at a comic shop.

  • It doesn't happen much in UK comic shops, but it did in the US!

  • there's no way I'm clicking through to wet he-nerds.com ;)

  • the only one who should get over it is you

  • Do guys actually scatter like bunnies when a woman enters a comic book shop? No. That's called humorous exaggeration.

Are some comic book shops full of guys that openly stare at any woman who comes in? YES. It does happen, and it's stupid and uncomfortable as hell. If you all have never seen it happen, then you are either very lucky or very oblivious.

  • I'm just another girl here to say this has never happened to me. But, then again, it probably happens to pretty girls.

  • Pfft get over yourself will you.

  • she probably has terrible body odor

  • @braindeadbonobo

    hahahah xD

  • I can't even walk into a comicbook shop anymore. The last two in my whole city closed in the past two years. Recessionboooooo!

  • All the *men* saying "this never happens!" - just because you can't believe some women are treated like that by some men doesn't mean it never happens.

  • 10 people who apparently think "The Big Bang Theory" is a documentary and are offended by it.

  • Plenty of women in Irish and Scottish comic book shops. Haven't seen this kind of scene ever happen in my entire geeky life.

  • If it weren't for bullshit nerdgurl shit, this video is actually quite humorous.

  • Chicago needs to time travel to 2012. It's amazing here! We have the 3D Televisions, The Magic Bullet™ and men that have procured the life skills to deal with a pair of boobies invading their "safe haven".

  • This is so stupid

  • This definitely happens to me. Maybe it's the name?

  • Wasn't this a bad episode of Heroes before it was an untrue, unfunny Youtube video?

  • Wow, this has never happened to me; I'm a female and I have been to plenty of comic book stores. By myself even.

  • @italktosnakes The conversation over at themarysue is very intriguing with a lot of different points of view. We encourage everyone to take a look at that.

  • Wow. I have never, ever seen this kinda behavior in MY 30+ years of collecting comics. I do remember when I started seeing more ladies in the comic stores and thinking "Where were you when I was in high school, hiding my comic nerdness??"

  • Neither true nor funny nor charming. THAT NEVER HAPPENED FOR FUCK'S SAKE!

  • @HastursHatred Wait, have most comedy sketches actually happened? WHAT HAVE I BEEN MISSING?!

  • Wow Hyperbolic cliched nonsense & not funny... thats a winning combo

  • You guys make me laugh!!

  • Break a leg at your shows!

Could you have a look at foreverwednesdayshow on youtube?

I'd like to know what you think of it.

  • filmed at Graham Crackers Comics in Edgewater (Chicago)! 5443 N. Broadway!! Ironically ran by a chick!

  • @G1MMESOMETRUTH We can't thank Graham Crackers enough. A great store, ran by a great person. Also, many thanks to the Mary Sue people for really engaging with the greater ideas presented by the video. We always embrace good healthy discussion. Thanks again!

  • Come see the Nerdologues perform at the Chicago Sketchfest on Thursday January 5th at 8pm, and Thursday January 12th at 9pm!
