That isn't "World -1". This is a level in world 1. For example, the game says WORLD 1-1. That level isn't on the list of levels, that's why it says WORLD -1 (-1 because it isn't a level).

i made mario retarded once....it's when mario faces bowser...and before you could touch the axe...i made mario touch the axe and bowser both at the same time....

then mario will flashing big...when you hit a block that has a super power it will be a mushroom...then he'll shrink...then after a fiery flower...so every time he fires his head will go large then back to his small self

i've actually seen the site that joss is talking about. the guy said he was going to post the direct path on how to go to it but hasn't. all I know is you gotta get all the coins and go under the first set of the two rows at the end and on top of the second set, and then you get go threw the bricks and get to -2!

there is actually a secret path that you are suppose to take on world -1, kindda like the the way you do it in the castle on World 7. After you take that path and complete world -1 it takes you to world -2, then to world -3 .. and so on, so on.. like going bacwards on the game.. really cool think.. I forgot whats the path though.. I saw this on a website. You guys should check it out.. its like been a secret for decades now! not that many people know about it.

It's only "negative" because the game is messed up and the pointer for the graphics that display the number of the world you're in isn't working. or something.

If I had to guess, it would be that the game knows the pipes are world-warp pipes, but it doesn't actually give them a value unless you are at the top of the screen (you know, when the piranha plants disappear), so the game uses the default value of -1, causing the game to be stuck in a world with no way out.

Level -1 is the only - level. When you get to the end, it wraps around and takes you back to the begening of level -1. It is like this until you run out of lives. ^_^
