This video made my day and made me smile! My dog,a staffy got put down at christmas and he had a great personality, was very cheeky and loved cuddles. He acted in the exact same way every bath time! He hated it. I love how they alway know when its bath time! Thank you for sharing :)
I've read that dogs do that paw lifting body language when they're reluctant or unsure about something, and water does seem to be a pretty common thing for them to be reluctant about! What a beautiful boy. Dobies are some of the sweetest dogs in existence.
My dobie hated taking baths, he would never get in by himself i had to pick him up and put him in the tub and he would be trying to get out the whole time. I mostly bathed him outside except in winter when i had to go through the whole tub fiasco. Outside i had to leave his collar on and chain him so he couldnt run from the hose. I brougt him to the beach once and brought him in the water with me and he hated that too.
Whats funny is my boy is a big scardy cat, he doesn't love the bath, but is a good boy and will get in for me, but actually took him down to the lake and I was shocked that he LOVED IT........he ran in and was bitting at the crashing waves that I thought he'd be terrified of, so I suppose ya just never know......
I have never met a breed with more personality. I am a new doby owner and I am amazed at the personality. Any suggestions for biting inhibition? My pup is 7 weeks....still young but I wanna work with him on biting
@crf450ish I would say just keep him social with people, kids etc... I always would be sure to put my hands in my boy's food bowl and I would always give him a bone, treat or toy and then tell him "DROP" in a stern voice so he would never challange me or anyone else who might try to take food, or a toy or treat or bone away from him, stuff like that. I don't think dobies are big bitters though. Do puppy school that is THE BEST WAY to socilize and create a good bond with your pup from the start
@crf450ish chew toys, kong or something indestructible, rope toys will have you following your dobie around the yard with a papertowel. they make bite spray aswell, its safe for them it just makes it taste bad.
To keep him from being "mouthy" - stop playing with his head with your hands! Divert him to toys instead - Dobes are the 5th smartest dogs in the world, so you should use just common sense.
My dobie Mila does not like the water at all. I have to sit on the edge of the tub and hug her as I pour water on her. As I work my way she panics and tries to jump out. What has been working is I pull out the curtain and close it behind me and she thinks there is no way out. I will put a video on that soon. It's quite a challenge.
@GMoyron Oh you poor thing, thanks for sharing that story, I suppose I should be really pleased and appreciative my boy is such a good boy for his bath, he doesn't love it, but will go get in and let me bath him no problem.
,... and I thought I had the only Dobie that loved his bath. I only had to say get in the tub once...he was all over it. Then when he jumped out he rammed his face into the towel and went crazy! Every time.. I miss him RIP Baron
@SteveHbmw1100 Oh how cute, thanks for the positive comment and sharing your story. Baron sounded like a great dog, and what an awesome name for a dobie........
What a well trained dog!! He didn't want to go in and tried all the tricks to convince you (sitting pretty, sad dobey ears) and he still went in to please you :) Your dog is awesome! I hope the dobey I get one day is just as well behaved!!
Ha.........thanks yeah, a lot of people were worried and making comments that the water was too hot, I ALWAYS make sure it's just luke warm and yes, your right, because even my little beagle lifts a paw in water.
hehe, mine does not like to take a bath, she let me bade her, but get the the look on her face showing her not happy mine:) but as soon i get her out and dryed off she turns into happyface again:D
my min pin does the same thing in water..inside or out. Just cant stand for his feet... or anything else to be wet. I have to grab him and put him in the bathroom BEFORE turning on the water or he will not come out from under the bed. If Im gonna take a shower he waits till I get in and shut the door before he comes near the bathroom.
No, no, no, absolutely not, I keep it barely luke warm, he always does that in water, even if he is standing in a puddle outside, someone else made that comment and I responded. My 4 boys are spoiled rotten, I love them as my children, if you view my other videos you'll see that. He is our sweet baby boy and we love him I would NEVER have the water too hot. I do worry now that this is the second comment I aught to take the video down since it is appearing that way, sigh???
Some people are silly. Most dog owners will recognize that many, many dogs do this upon touching water. My dog stands on his two hind legs when he gets in the bath, and when I make him stand on all legs, he lifts his front paw up. I think they do it because they have no choice but to stand in the water, and their only option of escape is to lift at least one paw up.
Ha, ha, thanks, but he is mostly just bath shy, lol, he is a good boy and will get in when instructed, but stll doesn't mean he enjoys his bath time :0)
Yes its the long bell show crop, but we don't show him, he is just our big beautiful spoiled baby boy!!! We took a few confirmation classes, but decided to pursue agility instead in beginners foundation classes now, our beagle already does agility videos of him are posted already
WOW!!! thanks so much for the nice complimants. Yeah my hubby & I always wanted dobe, but I knew we weren't ready so we got our lil beagles first and once I knew A LOT MORE about dogs & were more responsible dog owners, so we finally got our big baby boy Patrón & he is wonderful, gentel, smart, already has his CGC got that at like 18months, now I'm starting agility with him, my 7 yr. old beagel already does agility & has several titles, people are always amazed at a beagle doing agility :0)
Thanks for being such a good owner. There are too many bad owners out there that have NO BUSINESS owning these wonderful animals. You clearly love him and we Doberman owners thank you!
My " nephew " Bailey ( gbkiller007 Bailey the Doberman. wmv ) hates baths. He'll sit down on the living room floor and not budge. Then he does that " pathetic look " Dobes do. Then we push him and he's too heavy to move cos he's 16 months now Lol!
no problem I got him from Joan Firestone Lemonte Illinois Dedo's dobes 630-257-5981, not sure where your located thouh, she won't ship her dogs and usually has a waiting list, my boy cost $1650 and that was 2yrs ago.
OH HEAVENS NO, not at al, he just always enters into the bath tub like that. I ALWAYS keep it just barely luke warm for my boys, I have 4 dogs and they are all spoiled rotten, I LOVE THEM, they are our fur kids and then we also have one human son, Julian our oldest of all our boys, our teenager, LOL.
@tedtug HA, HA, THANKS and very clever yourself, whats funny is our dobie does not live up to his name of "the boss" AT ALL, instead our little 17lb dachshund beagle mix Peanut runs the show and is the alfa of our 4 boys, our lil guy will go running up to Patrón, lung at him and growl & Patrón will drop his bone or whatever he has that Peanut wants & then the lil guy goes waddling away proud with a bone he usually can barely even cary in his mouth, NOW that is what I've got to get on video, LOL.
@DISCOPEANUTSWEETP #LOL so true, my 9 month old dobee, who probably weighs at most like 25 pounds owns my 100+ pound chow, yet my 5 pound cat owns my dobee, go figure
hahahaha!! that is so funny - my dobie used to be exactly the same - she hated water and used to make such a mess that in the end my mam would use the hose in the back garden bcuz it was easier!!!
@psChrystine Thanks, yes I'm very in tune with my boys, it's good to, because then you know when they are sick or hurt or sad or whatever. I think because I don't have kids and they are my kids I sort of have that motherly instinct and bond more so them some people with their pups, ya know...
That is so cool that your dog loves baths, as you can tell, my boy doesn't really LOVE his bath, but he is a good boy and gets in nicely for his mama, LOL.........
Thanks he is our big baby, he is our youngest and he is just a good boy. Now mind you he doesn't really like his bath, but he is a good boy and does what he is told :0)
He didn't seem to have a problem getting in there in the first vid lol. I also noticed you closed the door to the other hall and he looked at you...lol
all three of my dobermans(two in the past, one currently) seemingly can tell exactly where the bathroom is and avoid it with all costs. i literally have to pick him up
