beginning reminds be of the opening of Britten Sinfonia da Requiem

Great work of music. I saw the Japan premier in Tokyo last month. Dr. Atomic was paired with Symphony No. 6 “Hiroshima” (交響曲第6番「HIROSHIMA」) (1985) by Ikuma Dan (團 伊玖磨).

I like to think of John Adams as late late romantic composer.

My school band is using an arrangement of this piece as our opener for our marching band.

Very engaging composition. The recording doesn't have very much ambience, which is a shame, but it still sounds quite good.

I love the Einstein quote,
"I don't know what weapons WWIII will be fought with but WWIV will be fought with sticks and stones"
Not verbatim.

Heh, did they perchance also play the Brahms 'Tragic Overture' and second Piano concerto?

yeah! were you there? that piano concerto is soooo boring
Yes, I was there. I actually attended to hear the Piano concerto of anything else....
oh sorry man! i just thought it was to long and generic. brahms definitly has better piano concertos.
No need for apologies, just verying tastes is all.
I thought the concert in all was great, and it really opened my eyes to John Adams, a composer I previously didn't think much of.
Last summer I heard and recorded this piece online at the BBC Proms podcast...it was 45mins long. I guess Adams revised it?

I saw this piece performed in Miami, directed by John Adams himself. It was incredibly potent!
