  • everyone who loves MUZIC should have this..A+

    Nice..Drool...

  • @OSCALETRAINGUY

    Thank you!

  • thats a really nice setup, and super sound

i would like to a playroom like this

  • Nice set up - one can see and hear all the effort and funds you have put into it!

  • @karmakarras1

    Thank you!

  • Why openbaffle?

  • Is that hi-fi rack DIY, made with studding rods? It doesn't look bad exactly, just a bit precarious (although I'm sure it's solid) but mostly, it just looks like it's not quite worthy of holding up such nice components. Maybe you'll say I'm a snob, I don't know - in fact I'm all for DIY, however, this rack just bugs me for some reason - It's just not as classy as it should be, if you see what I mean. :) It also doesn't look like it offers enough isolation.

  • @locomotosoto

I agree about the rack. Although solid enough and does its purpose, I should consider building a much better design. Maybe in the future...

Thanks for the comment. I really appreciate it!

  • So sexy.

  • @tonniterska

    Thanks!

  • Nice set up...congratulations! Dont get the two negative ratings for this video?

  • It seem's that you have already gone down the path I find myself on now. I am currently in the high power/modified Maggie camp, however I think I am ruined for small power high efficency now that I have heard a friends set-up. I am not ready to sell off the Pass labs/Magnepan set-up as of yet, but I am ready to start down the other road now. I already have a pair of Great Plains 604 8H Mk 3's and a highly modded Lenco L75 table. Where do I find JE labs? I guess your video was too inspiring!

  • @geezerrocket

Thanks! Just type "JE Labs" in your search browser. I am sure it will lead you to its website.

  • My second visit! I think for me the one point of interest is the 'infinite baffle' design for your speakers. This idea goes way back to the 50's, (I was a toddler then), for home audio installations. It's been awhile since I'd seen this type of design employed. I may have to revisit this technique in the future for myself. Great system, Cheers!

  • @stratocat9999

    Thank you1

  • I am watching your vids again and again and this is simply amazing! All this incredible equipment is just like appropriate tribute to such marvelous music! You should make some educational clips to pass and share your experience about all this stuff - amps, preamps, rectifiers, turn tables, tubes, speakers etc. & etc.

  • @incantatis

Thank you sir! Wish I had the time and expertise to share my knowledge in this hobby of ours.

  • Sounds very nice. I was always told that 604's didn't produce enough bass in an open baffle design, but your system has me re-thinking that proclamation.

  • @cbird66

I would say that room placement plays a major key.

  • You like your Denon 103s! Have you tried the Schick wooden bodies? The best thing I did for my 103R was take it out of the plastic body - it sounded free!

  • @leehazlewoodism

Hi! Yes, I have two wood bodies DL 103/103R. Had them since 2008. In fact, one seller have a pic of my arm on the brochure they made for the wood bodies.

  • okay, so I have two. one upstairs and one downstairs! but nowhere near the quality of these!!

  • why so many turntables?

  • @dcr9999

    So as to have variety!

  • @dcr9999 There is no such thing as too many turntables! :)

  • @stratocat9999 Yep!

  • What a lovely set up, what LP btw?

    Dave

  • @mrtheoden Thanks! Kenny Burrel's Midnight Blue

  • @amandaraer Thanks! I had a duh moment last night, cos the next page of comments mentions the disc in question lol. I've already ordered my vinyl copy of it off EBay!

  • @amandaraer I ended up buying this (lp/cd special) - it's awesome! Thanks for letting me "discover" this!

    Dave

  • @mrtheoden

    Welcome sir!

  • unreal

  • @12106Scott

    Thank you!

  • Audio Heaven, I want one. So I better go and buy that Lotto Ticket. Excellent Set Up.

  • @jmal7211

    thanks! Glad you like it!

  • Wonderful system ! I love your JEL preamp with seperate power supply. Please let us know a little about it and also your open baffle speakers. Thank you very much for posting this video. I enjoyed it.

  • Ray Brown on bass (?) - nice setup ! - do your OB run a lot from the 70? - fwiw I had GSI 70 diff-6dj8 with CCS tail years ago and that was a nice driver.

  • @gnativerson : Bass is from Major Holey Jr. Sir. If what you meant by "70" is ST 70, yes, the OB runs fine with it but low freq are more emphasize, IMO, an SET amp sound much balance across the board than the ST 70 in my set up.

  • Did you make the rack yourself?.....

  • @gekkofinger : Yes sir!

  • Shhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!! just listen ,,,,,, so sweet the sound

  • @r4m69 , thanks much!! I'm glad you like it.

  • very high sound quality may i ask what you have paid?

  • @webcam453

Not much sir! But it took a lot of time building and refurbishing the components however .

  • lol i thought its very expensiv because the sound is so clear and all

  • I had the same idea for the hifi rack, but with 3 cm thick granite shelves.

Oh, and what's the name of the song playing? Thanks in advance for your reply!

  • Hello,

It's "Mule" from Kenny Burrell's album "Midnight Blue".

  • nice kenny jazz guitar

    i have this one

my audio system linn lp12 turntable jbl amp sg520 se400

jbl lancer l101 speaker verry old system

    enjoy blue note jazz

    broken english sorry

    sayonara さよなら goodby

  • Thank you sir! Your English is perfectly fine with me.

    regards

  • Did you make your own equipment racks? If so where did you find the threaded rod's etc... A truely fine system!!! To say I am envious would be an understatement. I am in the process of making cabinets for the "Great Plains Audio" 604-h-111 drivers. I have never seen JEL gear before; Could you elaborate on it?

  • have you ever try apogee speakers?

    sorry for my english

  • Yes sir! I had the opportunity to listen to a Diva, and a Duetta before. I used to have planar and electrostatic speakers (Magnepans and Martin Logans). Naturally, I had the interest to listen to Apogees. But, as audio is a very personal hobby in terms of gear choices, I did not think that the Apogees will work for me.

    Your English is perfectly fine.

    regards

  • That's starting to give me a case of vacuum tube and turntable lust again.

  • Thanks! Sorry for the late reply.

  • Nothing made by Alba? SHOCKING!! Before I am marked as spam, I am truly joking. One of the finest systems I've seen for a long long time. I am litterally drewling oever my keyboard as I gaze with awe and fascination at you collection of audio heaven!!!

  • Thanks! Sorry for the late reply.

  • Merci for the trip! Im the ex Oracle audio head designer in Québec Canada. Your system look to be created for the pleasure of living (music too). I'm now tuning my mane momoral system, created in 1960 by the Phillips head engener himself. He said ''Dont make the mistake to go for the Stereo before lestening this awesome 3 way ambiophonic monoral.''

    Stereo and more.. are less.

    Salut

  • Thanks for the nice words!

  • What step up trannies r u using for the dl103? are those home made?

  • On this particular clip, I am using Cinemag CMQE-3440A.

You can buy the transformer directly and do the wiring and build the case yourself. Just look for 'cinemag" on your search engine.

I have Altec 4722 and Tribute also. The Tribute at 1:10 is okay but I think the DL103 at 0.4mV needs at least 1:18 gain ratio.

  • thanks for the info i'm intending on building one as my project next month.

  • Lol ...you got enough money sittin there to buy a house.

You certainly got you shit together ,this is just beyond words.

  • Thank you. I am glad you like my set up.

    regards,

    Abe

  • Sounds more like SET SEDUCTION to me. :-)

  • Thanks Ben!

  • Abe,

What is the album/tune playing on this video?

I may have to challenge you to a little Kenny Burrell, "Chitlins con Carne"...

  • Hello,

Midnight Blue By Kenny Burrell. The tune playing is "Mule" , the second track after "Chitlins..." on side 1.

    regards,

    Abe

  • nice

  • Thanks you very much!

  • Superb system. So do I understand that you believe the 103 is the best cartridge...even at that attractive price?

  • Thanks! The DL 103 just sounds great with my present gears and I am very satisfied with this family of cartridges that I think buying/trying a new one (brand) is not a priority.

  • very nice setup and sound of course.i am having altec 604c in this ob too.but i don't have such a nice big hall like yours so only place my speaker 2.5 ft from the rear.may i know what crossover you are using? what is a good amp for the 604.currently mine is mono 300b set.

  • I am using two types of XO. One, seen on the video, is the Jeff markwart type for 604. The other is homebrew from my friends design who has the 604-8G for 25 years now.

As for amps, I found in my set up, that the 45 and 2A3 type of amps brings out the sound I really like. I also own a 300B amp.

I have the Orion plus from Linkwitz Labs. So, I am already an OB person for a long long time.

Thank you very much for the kind words!

  • Great system! Since the speaker cabinets have no rear panel do they need to be a certain distance from the wall or from the corners of the room for the drivers to produce an audible bass response? I always thought speakers needed to be mounted in closed enclosures.

  • Thanks!

The drivers are on OB's(Open baffle). At present arrangement, the drivers are 5 1/2 feet away from the front wall, about 4 feet away from the side wall and about 8 to 9 feet apart. bass is fine and is louder as you move the drivers closer to the front wall.

  • Cool, what's the advantage of OB's as opposed to conventional enclosures? Maybe I'll build a pair. What phono cartridge do you use with your Garrard 301? Looks like you have many cartridges, which do you prefer? Your system is definitely hi-fi. I have a mid-fi mid-80s Harman Kardon system. I use the HK T65C turntable with an MM Ortofon OM30. I use 2 speaker systems driven by 4 HK mono blocks that Ive had restored. Any thoughts?

  • Cabinet resonance or standing waves are eliminated for one!I use Denon 103 series exclusively in stock form or with wooden shells. The only other cartridges i tried were Benz(Glider and Ace),Shelter (501, and 901) and Koetsu Rosewood.I sold all of them and settled on the Denon.I would suggest that if funds permit, try to get a Thorens (125, or 160 or better yet, a 124 or Garrard 301/401) turntable. They are really special! You can get a Lenco,Rek-o-Kut, or a Technics 1200 too as an alternative.

  • What is your address? I promise I won't steal anything ;)

  • He,he,he thanks! I take that as a compliment.

    regards,

    Abe

  • May I live there ?

  • He,he,he......thank you! I take that as a compliment! Sorry for the very late response!

  • From what I can hear those open baffles sound like they have good bass. How do you feel about it? Is speaker placement distance from the floor important?

  • Hello,

Bass is superb and it all depends on the XO, gear you are using, and the distance of the OB to the front wall. If I understood your comment corrctly, the distance to the floor is part of the design of the OB dimensions.

    regards,

    Abe

  • Just an amazing set. Congratulations. Have you restored the 301 by yourself or have you sent it to some special place like Loricraft Audio ?

  • Thank you! I restored the 301 myself.

    regards

  • I'm building a very similar rack, using 1" stainless threaded rods as legs / supports. Yours look so clean. How did you finish the rods to get that clean look? Mine came covered in oil.

Also, you are a shameless show off. Congrats.

  • As I recall, when I bought the rods, there was no oil on them at all. Isoprophyl alcohol cleans oil easily, if not Acetone. Another good thing to use is the "engine degreaser" for cars in aerosol cans. Then finish it off with soap and water, rinsing with water for the final clean up.

    regards

  • Well I am! (drooling) and now I know the TNT supports actually look great I shall build myself a set :-) LOVE those OB's

  • Thank you!

  • So here's a heated question...

Which do you prefer? The 301 or the 124? :)

  • The 301 for rock and pop or anything that needs that dynamic punch, the 124 for Jazz etc. where finesse is a must.

  • Oh yeah I'm not jealous
