The art and music of this movie is incredible. Some scenes just give me the chills and some of the simbols depicted hold a profound meaning. I will never forget the camera moving a way at the end of the film... Never.
@XbeyourselfisbestX Heh good eye - they both had the same art designer, Yoshitaka Amano. He stopped doing the main imagery and character design artwork after Final Fantasy VI but continued doing odd-jobs and minor work for the series, which depending on one's opinion of successive and current directions of Final Fantasy games (even excluding XIII-era) was a good or sad move.
This movie is a perfect example of what anime creators used to strive for, animation as art, pushing the boundries of animation to create something unique and captivating. Somewhere along the line this ideology got lost and anime started going downhill.
A film so painstakingly slow, yet positively beautiful in a cold, desolate sort of way. Like a snowflake, insignificant to the naked eye, but profound and complex up close. Fragile and isolated, wandering through dim shafts of light from an uncaring, mechanical sunrise. Looking for water, keeping the sanctities in the egg safe from the shadows and illusions of a civilization long since lost.
@videochemist ok look smarty if you like that kind of movies im preaty sure that you wont appreciate my taste on movies, and for your information the most comments on that video are negative...and also how can you say that what you like is also good??????unleashed i dont put labels on my taste.
@videochemist first of all im not a sir im a madam,im not changing the subject and im not obliged to recommend you something, but i will, as long as i put an end to that pointless conversation.in my opinion origin is one of the movies i like the most, and spirited away too,i hope you are happy now...
@sophakiable That's funny. I made a bet with myself you were going to say a Ghibli film, and I was 90% sure it would be Spirited Away. Not that there's anything wrong with Ghibli (I'm a big fan myself). But the other film, while accomplished in the animation/visuals department, is clearly trying too hard to be a Ghibli film, while falling miserably short on originality and plot/character development. So if you have an issue with Angel's Egg, it couldn't possible be with it's plot development...
@videochemist please let me ask you something, why do you care so much my opinion about this movie and as i can see you are trying to find out why i dont like this movie , you think that something is going to change about my opinion if you find out and also why you reply to my comment didnt you saw how many negative comments have this video...?
@sophakiable Please good sir, don't change the subject. I would like a recommendation from you. To make it fair, it should be something in the same vein as the film in question. A film in a fantasy setting with surrealist elements, preferably in the medium of animation. (Keep in mind, 'personal taste' or an 'opinion' counts for nothing unless you're capable of defending it.)
I so have to find this anime on dvd, and/or blu ray if possible. I know I have a mess of anime now(talking shelves of dvd's, and blu ray's), but I want no need to find this and add it to my collection if possible.
VERY IMPORTANT, I am currently collecting emails and messages to send to Criterion in an effort to get a release of this film. Everyone, please contact me as soon as possible to support this wonderous film. SIncerly, Angel's Egg Coalition.
ok so from what I got from this movie, the little girl is the bird that was sent out from noa's arc, she just forgot that she was a bird she was the last animal that was living in the dream world where all animals were turned into stone, the guy was like a version of christ, he by breaking the egg took her inoccence making her realize she was what was inside the egg the whole time, she then turns into a woman and dies as all animals do. just so that the cycle of rebirth could be completed.
@MrShizPoo Hah, not quite, but for a 70 minute movie its entire script of dialogue is probably about half a page in length. So a good part of it has no talking, and most of the talking barrels down to the question, "who are you?"
Its so rare to find a movie like this, the characters dont have names, and theres little to no dialog. But the little that happend in the story said a lot. I adore the atmasphere in this film, its like no other, being a visual kind of guy this realy works for me. overall beutifull film
Could've had more potential this trailer, doesn't invoke a sense of surrealism or intrigue big enough to draw crowds... but the film itself is intense.
2do mensaje de la peli: si eres un huevo nunca dejes que tu guardiana y protectora sea una niñita... yo, en tal caso, me sentiría más segura arropada bajo las tiernas alas de una gallina.
An unfortunate question - as there is no official name for any of the characters. The credits only list her as "the girl." Its rather ironic for a script where the most oft-said phrase is "who are you?" Even calling her "Angel" may be a misnomer, as although Tenshi no Tamago translates into Angel's Egg, this only counts if the title refers to her being the true owner of the egg, as she clearly must have gotten it from something else first. This film poses many more questions than it does answers
Right you are on both counts - this style of art is one of the things I find missing the most from modern animes. Sure, 80's animation didn't have all them pretty CG cel-filters but they did know how to maintain a sense of style.
@Delphink Yes. I loved anime like this! Curse of the Yoma is another good one, even though it isn't from the same man, it is still one of the classics drawn in such a wonderful way. 80's anime wasn't as 'cookie-cutter' as it was now, if that makes sense to anyone. Everything looks the same now, exactly the same.
Yes, this movie was never officially released outside of Japan. The best bet is to make an order directly out of Japan as well as getting a DVD machine from Japan as well to make sure you don't suffer region error incompatibility.
I'm pretty sure that i've watched something similar like this anime when i was a kid, but it was mixed up with live action, could it be the hollywood version ?
Yeah it was a film made in Australia, titled In "the Aftermath" that had nothing to do with the original film but spliced random film clips from Tenshi no Tamago and overdubbed it to relate it to the live action sequences. Apparently it was some sort of apocalyptic movie, so they were similar in that respect. It was on youtube a while ago, but its probably down by now.
It is the story of a girl and a man in an apocalyptic world. The girl protects everytime an egg and the man wants to brake it to see what is in, believing that inside it there is the thing that can save the world...
The art and music of this movie is incredible. Some scenes just give me the chills and some of the simbols depicted hold a profound meaning. I will never forget the camera moving a way at the end of the film... Never.
