However you break up the demographics, the majority of the California voting block voted overwhelmingly for Prop 8. 15 years ago, gay marriage wasn't even an issue. Manufacture civil rights out of whole cloth then claim they were violated. Then say everybody is a hater if they simply do not agree with your value system and viewpoint. This tactic will never win over the majority and your only salvation is through the activist courts. Incidentally, marriage is overrated, it's a 50/50 shot anyway.
No, I call people bigots because they fit the definition. It is a rights struggle and a very long one for the LGBT community.
Prop 8 was losing by a significant margin in California polls until the literally millions dollars, almost entirely from Christian religious groups, poured in just a couple of months before the election. Money used to promote lies and to fear monger just enough to vote for Prop 8. It was and is shameful. Living in California, I had a front row seat to it.
How about 70% of Black voters, which represent 95% of Obama's voting block voted Yes.How about 60% of Hispanics voted Yes.I don't see protests by these cowards at BLACK CHURCHES,or neighborhoods where Hispanics mainly live,They're the reason it passed OVERWHELMINGLY.They go after White Mormons who don't make a fuss,or go to Catholic churches and harrass old ladies. There isn't and never has been a constitutional right to marry.READ THE CONSTITUTION SOMEDAY AND STOP MAKING RIGHTS UP
There are the 1st and 14th amendments. It's a separation of church and state violation. Being anti-gay marriage is a religious issue for the vast majority of people. If one can't demonstrate a *reason for harm* to eliminate a right then what are you left with other than enforced religious dogma.
The 14th is equal protect of all people under the laws. Again why eliminate a right for one group of people? What's the justification again?
Typing in all caps doesn't make your points any better. lol
I think what this vote shows is the power of framing. On the ballot as well as in the h8 propaganda, it wasn't framed as a civil rights issue. I think that most of those who voted against it (especially the religious) didn't see it as a civil rights issue but as a religion/tradition issue.
The best news from the demographics breakdown is that the young people voted overwhelmingly NO. Hopefully h8 will be overturned sooner rather than later, but that day is inevitable!
I think it shows that how the most self-described lovers of America are so quick to jettison the US constitutional ideals for religious dogma.
This needs to be pointed out more on YouTube. If people are pushed to protect the ideals of their church or country, many are quick to pick their religion. That's kind of scary if one dwells on potential implications of that fact.
Prop 8 did nothing to set back any socalled Gay rights..Civil Unions in California cover EVERYTHING legally that Heterosexual Marriages do.You can call yourself Married 24/7 if you want..The Word "Marriage" is only recognized in Ca as The union of a Male and Female..I hardly call that discriminating..Gays have EVERY single right as straights in Ca..Nothing is stopping you from living together as husband and wife,or whatever the term of the day is for you..You people are outta your fucking minds
This is a separate but equal argument. Exactly the same argument White southerns made to justify separate racially divided lunch counters and bathrooms. Again ruled unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court.
So are you married? Are you willing to call your relationship a "civil union" if you are? Are you willing to give up property and visitation rights if work forces you to move to a different State where heterosexual marriages aren't recognized?
Note: Calling someone "out of their fucking minds" is a strong pejorative.
Also, I'm not sure that you actually get what this fight is about.
wow...wish i was there to join the march 2 years ago!!! :(

Proposition 8's success was California's greatest act for the country in it's entire existence.

Why do you think that is?

DAMN I wish I could have been there! I almost went to SF but I had prior obligations. Hmph.

I'm sure there will be many more marches to come. Sadly, Prop 8 set back the movement at least a few years.
