  • I pretty sad at the ending charlie ia back as his old state but apprently being smart isnt all that its cracked up to be. I would like to see how kinnian story plays out with charlie and to see what happends to charlie in the future. So please i beg of you SOMEBODY MAKE A SEQUAL OR REMAKE

  • wait, what just happened? worst movie ever. sorry for those who liked it, but i really hated that movie. nothing like the book.

  • I really enjoyed this short movie. However, I really wanted to see more of Charlie's story in action with the inclusion of Fay's character, and them putting flowers on Algernon's grave. I hope that one day, a good movie director creates a better movie of this book. I would really like to thank Daniel Keyes for a wonderful and a well written book.

  • just take some NZT. lol

  • Beautiful movie, but very, very sad.

  • I thought charlie was suppose to die?

  • @mogelover123

it was left as a type of cliffhanger @_@

  • @mogelover123

it was left as a type of cliffhanger @_@

  • In the book, Flowers for Algernon, the characters name is "Charlie" not charly... 9:20

  • @xDMister Shut the fuck up, a spelling is a spelling, noone cares.

  • @Pawnbroker00 ayy wtf leave him alone whatever

  • I liked this film, but I enjoyed the story a whole lot more.

  • you just finish his sentances for him

  • The ending didn't really follow up with the books ending.which is he leaves newyork and starts a new life

  • ...im gonna go cut myself

  • Wow the ending really sucked :( But the actor who played charlie was awesome. Overall the movie was okay but it did skip a lot of things and is very hard to follow if you have read the book and i imagine even harder to follow if you haven't read the book

  • awww so it was a flashback

  • The point to the ending of the movie is for Miss.Kinnian to observe Charly to return to him old self as he did in the beginning

    .

  • Cliff Robertson (As Charlie) - September 9, 1923 – September 10, 2011

    R.I.P

  • I think the book is better. We read it at school and watched it and the book is just better! hah

  • her face when charie says leave is so sad :(

  • Meh. The book is better. This is too much of a soap opera.

  • did he die?

  • @121makelovenotwar

Yes, not in the literal sense though

  • Poor Charly :( I thought he was gonna live happily with no problems just a wife a kid and a mouse named Algernon the II

  • @Shadowsir1337 lolz

  • what happened to Frank? i thought she was engaged?!?

  • @LittleMissMakeup225 In the movie, they mentioned that he died and and Alice Kinnian was then considered single. this is why Charlie had the urge, not the decision to make love with Alice. He knew that he kissed her on the cheek and not the lips at the time.

  • All this is different from the damn book...

  • I watched this because I read that the actor who played Charlie had died today. I couldn't put a face to the name of Cliff Robertson. I done a search on google & YT & ended up watching the whole 10 parts. I think it sums up how we all feel as human - wishing to be more intelligent & accepted by those we look up to.

We will all fade away - we should just learn to be ourselves, we would get so much more from life in the long run :):):)

  • Soooo.... What happened? o.o

  • NONE OF THIS HAPPENED IN THE BOOK EXCEPT THE OPERATION! and they even changed THAT

  • I wish they still did the Rorschach tests in the beginning, and putting flowers for Algernon every week. I feel so sorry for Charlie - he deserves better. He's a kind and caring and wonderful person - he deserves a happier ending. What is better; the beautiful lie, or the ugly truth? Is it better that Charlie was living in ignorant bliss, or sad notice? Nobody will know, no one can ever know.

  • The ending confused me so much..

  • @pratttan Oh, Charlie . . . .

Basically . . . he's . . . back to the way he was. The beginning of the movie, he was playing with the kids at the playground - he's doing it again. He's back to the mentally retarded state. :'(

  • @tomboy0614 Oh I thought that was her imagination.

  • Omg, not even a good bye kiss... I love this book we read it last week in class and i was the only one who decided to read the novel and as i was reading it i noticed alot of things differed from the short story. Then i looked up the movie and the same thing happend! I wish they could've included some more details from the book or made it into a series. I love Charly even though he isn't real, i have a special place in my heart for him. This is my new favorite book. R.I.P. Algernon:)

  • @iluvpaparazzi mines to

  • In the book did he run away or commit suicide? It has been quite some time since i have read this book

  • @SGTBrian1 I think he moved to New York City, thats what one of my firends told me. I was REALLY confused when I read the end because he said "I will have lots of friends where I go" I dont know why but thats what I thought too, but I don't think he died. :P

  • @ChefKingMaster could his "Friends" be considered the people in heaven such as algernon?

  • @SGTBrian1 That all depends on what you believe in I think. I'm a Catholic so if he killed himself he would be in hell. But honestly I'm not too sure, plus the 8th grade book I have read, the movie, and the book my friend has all are pretty different. Like in the movie he works in a bakery and in the book I read he works in a factory. So it has jumped around a lot and is kind of had to form an actual conclusion.

  • @ChefKingMaster I remember a heavy english lit book with that story in it. Probably at St Paul's 8th grade class. They probably woundn't allow a suicide in that book to us and I remember him as going back to where he was.

Could this, if it existed, have been used to give one time surge to already smart people? There is what I call the My Fair Lady effect to contend with when faced with the certainty of returning to a low life. Different from Pygmalion effect. TV plot like The Millionaire?

  • Book is much better

  • Where are the progris riports?

  • I'm quite disappointed with the movie

  • This should have been made a series not a movie so that not so much of the necessary details is omitted.

  • omg this movie brought me to tears

  • lubunumber2, The reason why he rejected kinnian's marriage is because he knew he would end up retarted, he did no want to burden her with that type of marriage. And it was ened in sutch a way to illustrate that charly is back to his old self. Which is very sad.

  • Man, I don't like my Language Art because of these two books we're reading-

    The boy in Striped Pajama

and this, Flowers for Algernon, very sad =(

  • There are alot of details left out in the book, but whatever.. movies always emit details or else movies would be 20 hours long. I though Charlie likes Alice though?

  • ): im heatbroken

  • the ending is so sad

  • I Finish The Book ,But Great Moive <3

  • WTF the ending was horrible! Why didnt charlie disappear like in the book!

  • great actor

  • :/ they don't show Charlie leaving flowers at Algernon's grave.... :( Well If they did, I'd definitely cry. touch and sad story

  • That is one talented actor my friends.

  • I dont care if this really is just a story, there are people out there in real life like that, and instead of making fun of them try to help them, but doing charly wise,i still think that the story was way better than the movie and i felt sad for him but i felt happy when he got smarter than when he started to feel sick(the operation)i regressed and felt sad again..people dont make fun of mentally messed up individuals help them out i love this movie and story!!Charly forever

    R.I.P algernon

  • Hey where was Fay? Jw

  • 9:03 Face = Priceless

  • The movie made me cry the book made me insane.......i love my brain (-_-) rip algernon

  • very, very, good video really touched me verry nice moove hope my class wll watch it!

  • @GiorgioPanadgi THEY'RE MAKING A 2013 VERSION??!! Where did you read this?! Damn I hope they don't screw it up lol!

  • i liked charly when he was a retard. but when he is smart he is an asshole and a rapist

  • @laxfan41 no, he was a good guy while he was smart. The only times he seemed like a jerk in the movie were during the more emotional times like when he knew he had been lied to and stood on stage at the convention. If you were nothing but a lab rat- a way to the top of the science world for someone else- and were always compared to a mouse, wouldn't you be a bit of an asshole?

He jumped at Alice just after the surgery when he didn't understand his new emotions. It wasn't really his fault.

  • Y DID HE HAVE TO BE ALL DUMB-DUMB AGAIN! :[

  • @Bawbiedoll101 he wasnt he died. all the other mice died thats the diagnosis.

  • @RJKProductionz ...he did not die. The mice died because they were mice. Charly just regressed. You should read the book. It's clearer, and though I like the movie, I still think the book is 100 times better. It's an easy read. I can read it in a few hours.

  • @lysjocksan apperantly you didnt read the book because he algernon died and he clearly acknowledged that and went into certain depression and moved away at the end because it made everyone sad

  • @RJKProductionz Yes, yes I have read the book. I've read it many, many times. Charly does not die. Yes, he does go away to Warren State Home and then...doesn't die. Yes, Algernon did die. There's no question about that, but you replied to a comment based on Charly...who didn't die. Read the book Algernon, Charly, and I: A Writer's Journey. Daniel Keyes wrote it and it answers all questions about the book. It also has some really interesting insight into Keyes's mind and his writing style.

  • that would suck losing your smarticles

  • charlie died....... he saw how the mice died and they both had the same surgiry....... and ....... tht's how he died....... his brain u know........ not workin no more I think then he died.......... so sad....... :( I kinda feel srry for him :( also I read the book too

  • @xxmzmz123 Charly did not die. Not in the movie and not in the book. It just ended with him back in the park with an IQ of 68.

  • @BloodyYumi45 he wasnt going to die in the book just move away

  • Thanks for uploading this(: I read this book on school and our homework was to watch the movie. I actually prefered the book but that's just my opinion... thanks again!

  • Sad ending, I expected them marrying each other :(

  • Hmmm it relates pretty well with the book, unlike most movies wich go like 1000miles away from the book, but the ending, the ending made me mad. I wanted to see him put flowers on Algernon's grave and write his last letter, not him on a seesaw.

  • the book was way better...i just looked this up cuz my teacher said that there was a movie made from the book so i did....and im disappointed about how much they missed and that that book was mainly Charly's notes at the clinic, and im upset that there were none of Charly's notes in this....but it's pretty good for an old movie :\

  • Thanks for posting. It was a curiosity to see this film which I found to be plodding and listless. Charly's transformation seemed abrupt and we never got to know what was going through his mind as "simple" Charly and "improved" Charly. Robertson is good but his performance hardly merits an Academy Award. I can't fathom that he won over Peter O'Toole for Lion in Winter and Alan Arkin for The Heart is a Lonely Hunter. Parts of the movie played like an amateurish TV movie of the week.

  • Not nearly as good as the book

  • The characters were okay, but they kinda screwed up on the movie,

  • i have to admit, the book's ending was wayyy sadder.

  • that is the most sad part ever, the ending. i can't believe it.

  • The movie is good, but it's nowhere near as powerful and moving as the book is.

  • What fucking retard. If you think he is a retard it sure doesn't say much for you mate!

  • That fucking retard.

  • i loved this movie when we watched it in school. i actually did tear up at the end! we read the book too, but i liked how the movie goes into the relationship between charly and miss kinnian! it's so depressing and sweet.

  • ='(... in the book this part isn't very strong.. but in the movie ... =s

  • I liked the book much better, the ending on this movie was not very good... I was hoping it would be more like the book. The book almost made me cry. I could read the book over and over. Also, a long part of the movie showed charlie and Miss Kinnian spending time together.. I thaught it was just a drea of charlie's or something.. So, overall, I think the book was way better and more emotional, but still, the movie way ok.

  • Wow. Alright.

So Kinnian has a fiancee, Charlie only runs out during the ninth part, and Fay... SHE'S JUST NOT HERE? She's a crucial part!

  • i want to cry. this was a great movie. he should of married her. he should of. but in a way. he shouldnt of. he didnt want ppl feeling sorry for him. hope the books better with a happier ending. this one way quite heartbreaking if you ask me.

  • Please. This is nothing. The book is WAAAAAAAAAY more heartbreaking.

  • wrong he goes to a mental asylum to die

  • Wait... I thought Charly dies?

  • no algernon does at the end the letter he leaves says psand tells nemur how to make friends and pss please put flowers on algernon grave for me. he leaves new york to start a new life somewhere else

  • yeaa thats about it

  • in the book charly stays smart and just leaves the new york city right?

  • @loves2spooge

Nope, he leaves because he doesn't like people feeling sorry for him all the time, and so he moves somewhere else so that no1 knew he had an operation and think that he was dumb the whole time.

  • no; charlie gets dumb again. and leaves to start over because he thinks that people will laugh again and he will make new 'friends'.

  • noo, he goes back to how he used to be and leaves.

  • What is this? This is dissapointing.

  • the book wass wayy better.!!!in a sense this movie deleted all the good partss in the book he meets his motherr..in the book he meets a girl named fay thiss movie is wayy different its a dissapointment.!

  • not only that but also the whole deal with his Mother and sister...and the time he attended a party and started dancing with a chick

  • @kitKATluvvu not only that, he also mets his father, and goes to chicago, and scapes with algernon...

  • its a good movie, its a good book, but i liked the book better. and in case people are wondering, in the end of the book, "Charlie" runs away to a new city leaving behind his book to Dr. Nemur and Straus. in the end of the movie "Charly" rides on a seesaw.

  • good movie, great book

  • VERY GOOD MOVIE

  • i agree with animefetish! what is wrong with you? alto the ending is better in the book and it just makes me want to help the mentally ill pple.

  • Wonderful book and Movie.

    Has so much meaning...

  • that made me cry

  • They should have shown part of the retardation process, for it was so sad.

  • the sybloisism is outstanding in this movie.

  • i'm kind of disappointed that the movie couldn't incorporate all the events that happened in the book like the relationship with his mom.

  • thats so deep...

  • Man i actually liked the movie, but the ending, man its so bad.... Why would it end with him rejecting Miss Kinnian's marriage? Why end with a picture of him on a seesaw? well nonetheless, it was a classic movie!

  • because Charly wanted to go back to the place where he was most happy in his mind, being like a child who is innocent and ignorent to the evils and hardships of the war. This really is a beautiful movie.

  • The surgery failed in a sense. It was not permanent, as they were hoping. So, as Charlie's mind was returning to its original self, he believed that it would be best if Kenyan wouldn't watch him go back to the mentally challenged state, so she could remember him at his most favorable moments, the times when they were in love. The end when he was on a seesaw was to confirm the fact that he had returned to his previous state of mind, a child's mind.

  • @SasukeIsPwnage

    i understood everthing but

it was still a bad ending

  • @Lubunumber2 he didnt marry her because, " True love means letting go", thats what miss.kinnian says.

  • @Lubunumber2 He didn't want to burden a new wife with his inevitable dependance on her. He knew that when he becomes "dumb" again, everything that they developed on an emotional and intellectual level would be gone. This can be seen in his return to happiness on the seesaw. It is a picture-perfect return to his child-like character, which is at least better than the inbetween during such a time when he was consciously knowledgable of his rapid deteriation.

    Retard.

  • @erazman

Hey, maybe I didn't think of that?

    Retard.

  • @Lubunumber2

because charly knew she only liked him for who he had become, not for who he really was. Also, it ended with a picture of him on a seesaw to show that he had reverted to his former self. It makes perfect sense really.

  • @10lettername

I said "why would it" not "why did it", in other words, I didn't want this ending

  • 1) He rejected her offer because he knew it was only a matter of time and didn't want to put her in a position where she was in love with a moron. To him, he felt like he would be a burden and wanted her to leave because he didn't want her to see him like the way he was before. "At anytime just tell me so and I'll leave". They could have lived together but he felt that he could revert at any time. He wanted her to remember him the way he was. She waited for him anyway, truly caring for him

  • @THEFIRSTAVENGERUSA

Your probably the 4th guy telling me the same thing that the others had, hahaaha. But anyways, when i said, the ending was bad and so on, i meant that they should have gave flowers for Algernon have a good ending.

  • haha yes i understand what you mean. I agree it would have been more profound indeed. But honestly i remember watching this when I was a kid at least from the point where Algernon dies and onwards and can honestly say the final image always sticks with me because it truly is heartbreaking. I honestly couldn't remember the name of the film & searched for about an hour looking for this scene until I found the name: Charly."Just remember to give flowers for Algernon" would have been a great sendoff

  • @Lubunumber2 charlie knew that he was not going to last that long. so he rejected miss kinnian. remember part 9, algernon dies. well that was a hint that the same will happen to charlie.

  • @MrDudezProductionz I was right, then? I found it very odd that Charly didn't die because, though it's been a year or so since I read Flowers For Algernon, I was pretty sure that was happened to him in the end…

  • @Lubunumber2 Truie it does have a kind of wioerd ending. Now with the eesaw thing it goes back too how he has the mind of a child, at least I think. I know this because my uncle is just like that, he is limited capabilities.

  • @Lubunumber2 Your comment was made a year ago. Have you figured it out yet? He knows he will soon become a moron again, and does not want to burden her. He wants to cut it off while they both have their dignity. And then he becomes a moron, as shown by his joyful playing on thee see-saw.

  • @caseyspaos Your probably the 5th guy responding to my comment, hahahaa. I understood the ending from the start, I think you misinterpreted the way I said it. I meant it as in I wanted the movie to have a happy ending.

  • whats WRONG with you

  • fag

  • still a fag

  • this is so sad

  • I know this isnt real, but I cant help but feel somewhat srry and sad for Charly.

  • i help mentaly handicapt kids every day and im 14 in the 8th grade

  • i cried i was so sad. also i think he dosnt want to merry her because she dosnt want her to be with a retarded

  • i cried too every one thinks im big and tough but after reading and watching this i cried

  • charly becomes dumber again. after i watched this movie i thought about how i used to always make fun of mental retardates and i felt like shit...........

  • he gets retarted again

  • yup he does, so dont give medatheter24 bad comment

  • wait so what happened to him

  • wheres fay?

  • if you liked this you may like the book:

    mice and men

    check it out

    it isnt bad at all

  • That book was pretty good. Those two books both have a sad ending. Charlie and Lennie are pretty much similar too.

  • the book is amazing

  • @Weston29406 Its a shame what happens at the end.....but ill never tell.

  • @Weston29406 the book is called flowers for algernon

  • we watched this movie in school..i thought it was sweet when miss kinnian asked charlie to marry him..and he said leave cause he knew he was deteriating..and the next day at school..he wasn't smart anymore:( i just wanted to cry but its embarrassing:(

  • i think its cool cause he got to see life in two different shoes instead of thinking that life is so hard and that you could never be smart. :)

  • i just read this book and its even saddder poor charlie way to be able to live then have it all taken away from you. dumbass doctors lol

  • Real saddening, but sadly not every story ends quite so happily ever after.

  • charly nooooooooooooooooooooo

  • i wonder what happens, and why he didnt want her to stay. sad

  • *cries*

  • oh my fucking goodness. I hate the ending so much. Its too sad... ):<

when she asked him to marry him I was like A COUPLE OF MINUTES CANNOT FINISH A GREAT STORY LIKE THIS! Sadly, it did.

    Greatest movie, ever.

  • WADAFUK the ending is sad!!!!!!! i say make 2 ʎןɹɐɥɔ!!! xD hahahahahhahah

  • how did u go that upside down?

  • cool

  • My entire class cried at the end of the short story "Flowers for Algernon" it was so sad; but so good!

  • *sniff* *sniff* :'(

  • the ending of this movie sucks!

    but the plot is good

  • its so sad alot of charley says is true
