tesla coils can be anywhere from perfectly safe to deadly depending on how well they are tuned. P=IV which means the total wattage equals the current times the voltage. since watts are limited by the power source a properly tuned tesla coil outputs very high voltage but almost no current and it is current not voltage that is harmful. if the arc touches bare skin that can burn you because plasma is hot but thats a tiny burn. also electricity too high to register pain makes no sense

Yes, the plasma is very hot. These coils I believe are pulling around 8000 watts each, so that's a lot of heat. The reason you won't feel the shoching pain if you get hit is because the streamer is of a very high frequency. What happens is what's called the skin effect. What this means is that because the frequency of the electricity is so high it cannot penetrate the surface and travels only in the outermost layers of your skin, and never penetrates to the nerves- so no sensation of pain.

I think Tesla is finally getting the recognition he deserves after all these years. Our whole civilization is running on his power distribution system. Look elsewhere on YouTube for a piece called "Risky Business" that was composed by Scott Wyatt and myself as a tribute to Tesla. At the end of the piece, a recording of Edison's voice is being played through Tesla coils, which Edison would not have liked one bit! Haha.

Unfortunately, Tesla coils are harmful, It's just that the electricity generated by the coils is so high that the nerves in your body don't register the sensation of pain, although the threat of tissue damage is still very real.
