The reason they chose the game that you got for free is because it makes it cheaper for them. If everyone had their own choice, they'd lose that discount for buying in bulk. Maybe the game was made in house so they lose almost nothing at all? I don't know, but getting screwed a person out $50 worth of service and only giving a crappy "$10" game in return sounds like a win-win deal for Microsoft.
