A caboose? I live in NY and I can remember when they used to use the caboose at the end of the train, but they haven't used them here in all of 20 years..they just have a blinking red light they attach to the last car. Thanks for the vid, it was nice to see an old caboose again lol.
didnt know those covered hoppers actually existed at 1:13 find them everywhere in HO lol Nice caboose what kind is that? is it one that they got from ATSF and chopped the cupola?
The rear-end crew was probably aware of the problem, and was waiting for an opportunity to set it in a siding. Anyways it's neat to see a train with a caboose. I miss Conrail.
Or an old style journal box has dried up. One of the reasons they had cabooses. Now they have roller bearings and no need to watch for smoking wheels.
Notice that none of the development has happened yet along 15. Also notice that the red barn just west of Cove looks exactly like it does today with the same lettering on the roof.
Yeah maybe the brake didnt release properly!I would imagine they may have noticed that. How couldt you.Let that brake go long enough and the hot ox dtector will pick that up!
lol, that is why they replaced the rear end crew with electronic boxes and defect detectors, because somehow they always missed the stuff like this. Chances are they were asleep.
I can just smell that Frisco boxcar. How could they miss that in the caboose? Unless they saw it and just said "fudge it." Too much effort, walking the train, setting it out, etc...
It's possible that they did. I caught the train later at Newport and it did not appear to be smoking (although I was on the other side of the train, on the other side of the river as well, about 1/4 mile away).
nice video

I've had the brakes not release on a car once in a while or a handbrake not released and for some reason trackside warning detectors dont pick em up.

If that was a stuck wheel you would hear a loud squealing noise. It looked to me like a loose or tight break shoe. A defect detector
should have picked that up. Nice tho!!!
FlatBlackXtreme 4 years ago
You're right--I corrected it. Thanks.
e44e33 4 years ago
@FlatBlackXtreme Or better yet the crew in the caboose would have seen it and alerted the head end via radio of the problem.

Man, you'd have to be looking the other way to miss all that smoke!
