I bought a G3 iMac (Bondi Blue) at a yard sale back in 2008. I timed it against my Santa Rosa Macbook (2.4GHz) and it only fell behind by 4.3 seconds. Considering the iMac is from 1999 and the Macbook is from 2007....yeah. Pretty decent ::)
@raysfan1181 Actually it is because of the refresh rate of the monitor. If you drop the refresh rate down on a LCD to say 24hz then you filmed it with a 30FPS camera you would get the same results. If the refresh rate is lower that the camera recording this will happen.
haha dude, thats what happens with a CRT monitor when its filmed with a camera, its not like that in real life. flat panels dont have that problem when being filmed.

I thought that it would be a cruel comparison.

Compare 'em to a 512k.

That's nice.
Proof of the PPC architectures power, (and RISC in general).
Awesome just Awesome. It kept up with that Core 2 Duo.
Tho it'd beat it hands down if it was the Core 2 Duo OSX vs. imac 400mhz with YD linux. haha

Why even bother comparing the two? There's over 5 year age difference, of course the Macbook would win.

That iMac did really well, considering the fact that it shipped with Mac OS 9.

it's the way the CRT monitors react to cameras and flourescent lights/lightbulbs

We have the slightly newer G3's in our school but they work perfectly with Mac OS Tiger the old version

k my ipod touch 2g has more mhz than that

Ever heard of the MHz myth? Look it up. Bottom line, MHz doesn't matter especially when comparing two architectures (ARM and PPC).
CompsciWiz 2 years ago
True. Mhz is not equal to Power.
Jackmiles2006 2 years ago
Yeah, that's COMPLETELY fair!

A G3 (600Mhz 512 megs ram) beet my new macbook (2.4Ghz 4 gigs RAM) in a boot test with four macs; its kinda crazy how this shit works
poopooGarret 3 years ago
That is actually really impressive. I've got to say, the iMac G3 really isn't as bad as I remember...
Then again, the ones at my old school were used by, well, tons of people, so they would probably bog down...
roboleg 3 years ago
I know! My school iMac G3's are technically faster than my Pismo PowerBook G3, yet mine has more RAM and is actually Maintained properly :P
Btroisi13 3 years ago
yea lolz but sometimes old computers an macs can be faster in other areas tht new ones are slow in.
