I think you're so cute, it really helped me to understand my exchange student better. But I found it weird that you called Duesseldorf a main city in Germany.... you seem really nice though.
Hey Lily! I really don't know you, but I just saw your blog randomly and I really like watching your videos and listening to what you say. As so. who's in Germany for the first time, you report in a very direct and honest way, that's so great! Yeah and you seem to be an open and very friendly person, so I hope you could enjoy your stay and that this was also a great experience for you full of beautiful memories. Yeah, should you ever be near Vienna/Austria, you are invited to come by. Really ,)
No offense, you're beautiful but you really have to reduce ur "like" habit :) it gets annoying after about 4 min to me. Hope u had a great time in germany tho (:
actually Karneval is an old celebration to drive out the winter with colorouful costumes and noise. at the emergence of the catholic church, the church just told people to have fun and enjoy meat ( if there were any ) before the beginning of the fasten time prior to easter. Carne = meat , Valis = festival.
She lives in St. Tönis or Tönisvorst, which is near Mönchengladbach if I got that right.. Quite a cool area 8) Visit a football match while you're here..
@germanlil Nothing to do with Napoleon... really... never did. (Did you think that because of the late Early Modern uniforms the members of "Gardistenvereine" wear? Those weren't exclusive to the French...)
@germanlil Every Catholic knows what Carnival is about. ;)
It's the "party time" before the beginning of Lent, where you're not supposed to do those things... but since everyone does it anyway, the partying and nonsense becomes more extreme during Carnival. Why you probably don't know about it: England became Protestant, the English settled in Australia (after it wasn't a prison colony anymore :p) and (at least most) Protestants don't have Lent season.
If u fear u might miss out sausages try the south. Especially bavaria. That's where those stereotypes come from... but don't u dare think bavaria is part of germany! Bayern ist Ausland! (Baden aber eigentlich auch... Badenser...) ò.ó ;p
U're sympathic... i'd so love to visit Australia... >.<
@BORATITSNIIICE Sure bout that? Ask the rest of Germany, and since u don't get it: It's called teasing and is actually subtle humour (>>> As in 'JOKE', get it?). Shut ur dirty mouth if cussing's the only thing ur capable of.
A lot of Germans outside of NRW (North Rhine-Westphalia) don't get the point of "Karneval" as well (as mentioned).. and only in NRW you dont have to go to work on these days... imo people just take it as a reason to get drunk and behave badly... but thats just my opinion as a northern german.. never understood the whole point of Karneval at all...
sry, how r u an exchange student without knowing german?? can you explain this some? and i think carnival is sort of like mardi gras/fat tuesday?? not sure... :)
@SGTSOULTAK3R believe me its not worth it . i live in germany and i can say i would trade with you anytime . its like the boring version of the usa . kinda . and if you are able to speak english its easy to get along . almost anyone under 35 is able to speak at least basic english . if you want to know more talk to me fella !
wow you really think German school is more relaxed than Australian ones? I went to an Australian school for six weeks and I thought school there was more relaxed, because you just get marks for things you write and not the things you say.
But I can understand that it was scary driving on the "wrong side" of the road. I felt that way too :)
And what i wanted to say is that not every one in Germany celebrates Karneval, it is very popular in cathollic areas like the Rhineprovinces in the Pfalz and Westphalia. In the more protestant areas in the Nort or in the east it is not such an popular event. Okay it is also celebrated but many peole do not participate
No offense I was just joking, didn't you hear many jokes about your country in germany?^^ We hear a lot too if we go to France or Italy. It is very helpful to know some insults about our neighbours especially if you are perhaps going to watch football games^
the funny parade you were describing is called "fasching"... I don't know if they have anything like it in australia, but in the USA it's Mardi Gras or Fat tuesday... It's just a celebration before Lent (catholic holiday where everyone gives up something, auf deutsch "fastenzeit") where everyone eats and dances a lot...
imo: carneval is the most senseless celebration in germany... because you shall live in abstinence the next 40(?) days. but nearly nobody do that!
