  • Sim cards are not microsd cards people! It would be expensive if it has to store music or video files.

  • Comes OAT? Geez, Canadians. It's not pronounced like that.

  • well i'm gonna get GSM cos i'v never heard of a phone with out a sim before

    here in New Zealand

  • CDMA 2mbs LOL GSM 47mbs!!!!

  • CDMA SUCKS ASS bad.

    GSM is the future.

  • what about battery life? is there a difference??

  • 3:37 she starts to say "it makes it a heck of a lot easier" but then she rephrases it.

  • I've heard that CDMA works better with weaker signals.

  • @jvolstad I always have a weak signal with my Fascinate so I can see that.

  • i dont get the whole international thing with gsm. like i have a cdma phone from verizon but when i travel out of the country im in roaming but it works i stil text and still make calls but the bad thing is that they charge alot of money for one minute. i think its $5 anyways... can someone tell me or explain to me about the international system with gsm?? thanks

  • well, one of the advantages of cdma is more security. If your phone is lost or stolen it can easily be locked remotely and located remotely as well, not saying gsm phones cant be located remotely since they have GPS too, but if someone steals your iphone they can easily pull the sim card out and bam your phone is gone for good...

  • @Robindahoodz

    then theyll be able to drop in their own sim card and well youre screwed pretty much. If you steal a cdma phone it will be locked and you wont be able to activate it again as a phone, unless its a smartphone and you flash it or completely wipe everything and restore the system that is...

  • @Robindahoodz

    As far as the GSM phones go, that's not necessarily true. If the owner reports the phone as stolen, then the phones IMEI will be black listed in the EIR (Equipment Identity Register). Any time a GSM phone tries to connect to its network, that network checks the phones IMEI in the EIR to see if it's black-, gray-, or white-listed. That phone won't be useable again regardless of what SIM card is in it, because the IMEI is hardwired (hard coded) into the phone.

  • @Robindahoodz Excellent points. The iPhone does have Apps that can locate your phone but I don't know if that would work once they remove the sim card. I guess the whole point is to not lose your phone in the first place. If it can happen, it will happen... eventually.

  • @getconnectedtvshow Possbily it could work because there was a MobileMe Trial for 2 months from Apple, and I have an iPod touch and I was extremely surprised they had a "Find my iPod" Ive only heard of "find my iPhone" so I tried it and bam it worked, and knowing the iPod touch its got no cellular radio which probably means if someone connects to WiFi, they, as in Apple, have the MAC Address registered so possibily if someone took your iPhone and removed the SIM maybe this same principal applies

  • @Robindahoodz, easy to trace on GSM aswell, the provider can find the phone easly, by looking at the last base station the phone is/was connected to, and if its stolen you can block the IMEI on the phone, most providers have a shared list of banned IMEIs so that phone becomes useless arround the world....

  • Well I live in Europe (Ireland) so GSM is the only type over here because of the mobile agreement in the European Union. I can see why CDMA would work better in North America but in Europe, we have so many different countries and networks that having CDMA would be a pain in the arse hence my we use GSM. Like if I wanted to live in Spain, all I'd have to do would be to get my phone unlocked, use my SIM on roaming or buy a Spanish SIM and voilà! ;)

  • I'm with CDMA and I'll tell you that GSM is the way better technology of your phone. The ability to lock or unlock your phone makes it easier and more advanced to use phones. On top of that you don't have to worry about extending your contract if you buy an unlocked phone or use one of your old phones if you're under a GSM carrier for sometime.

    CDMA is outdated technology that needs to be abandoned and history. Once you're locked under contract, you can't get a new phone unless new contract.

  • Damn that dude has a big ass head.

  • Media files? On a SIM card? Why would you do that?

  • it doesn't even work. sim cards can only store phone numbers, and messages. i don't think you can put any media files

  • 3G definitely crushes EVDO

  • EV-DO IS a 3G technology, and is faster still now in most places.

  • Wrong Gsm 3G is way faster!!

  • GSM! GSM! GSM!

  • EVDO! CDMA is the better technology. It's sad it's no longer to be developed further, the next evolution for CDMA/EVDO was supposed to be UMB.

  • How is GSM slowers? GSM uses HSDPA now, and thats offered up to 7.2 Megabit here in Singapore... which kills the 2mbs the guy mentions for CDMA in the video.

  • It's not GSM, it's UMTS which is W-CDMA. It's the evolution of GSM.

  • Ok CDMA is a spread spectrum technology.

    take 3GPP2:

    2G -> CDMAOne

    3G -> CDMA2000 -> 3xRTT and later EV-DO developed by Qualcomm

    take 3GPP

    2G: GSM -> GPRS -> EDGE

    3G: WCDMA -> HSDPA rel.5 -> HSUPA rel6 later it'll be HSPA+

    In future: both CDMA2000 & WCDMA standards will merge into LTE same standard offering cross connectivity to any technology.

    Ur'e wrong in saying EVDO is faster, since EVDO dalls in 3G, compare it with HSDPA...

    more than 80% operators are opting GSM -> UMTS

  • man... Shut the fuck up lol

  • thanks payndew, appreciate your comments :-

  • Sadly it's Canada he's talking about... The mobile industry in Canada sucks really bad...

    You can't buy unlock here without going into a gray market... Therefore most carrier phones they expect you to use for 3 fucking years... All Canadians know the Big3, one of them is hogging all the GSM, basically a monopoly... so we never get the improvements.

  • @Born2Die83 NO cdma is way faster!

  • @Born2Die83 EVDO Rev. B is faster

  • @Born2Die83 Not just that, Now it uses HSPA+ with offer up to 14.4 megabits per second.

  • maybe the GSM is slower in data but..AT&T has 3G and its GSM..its MUCH MUCH faster

  • Where they have it deployed lol

  • after one block coder and a convolutional 1:2 an amount of 456 bits. Finally, GSM is good cause its cheaper, talking about a network system. Voice quality is no the same... never, ever

  • CDMA digital voice quality is much much better. Actualy, GSM voice transmission quality is a Crap. Look, 200khz channel carrier band right? i dont wanna put all the numbers here, but we have 832kbps to fit in a 200khz band divided by 8 subscribers. What would ya do? Speeching Code, my friend. wich means, sampling voice and getting only the built in parameter os voice to transmit. IN this situation add lots os bits for protection we have in the end,

  • AMR-FR which is Adaptive Multi Rate running at 12.2k yields better call quality than the 8k EVRC codec running on CDMA. AT&T on the other hand uses AMR-HR which can fit 16 callers into a channel using TDMA.

  • I disagree. I've had a lot of CDMA phones and all of them sounded crap. And if there are a lot of background noises, good luck on the other person comprehending you.

    While with GSM, the voice quality is clear and crisp, just like a land-line phone.

    I don't care about the technical bits about whose better. In my personal experience, GSM phones provide a better voice quality.

  • @Quake110 Thats not true at all, CDMA provides better call quality and GSM has waaaay more dropped calls.

  • Comparison is not accurate since both party r subjectively comparing 2wonderful technologies. Only when taking into the technical details and politics behind the technologies will the user see that both technologies are the same. And that if 1 is better than the other (primarily when it comes to speed) it's only bcause it has a bigger "horse-pwr" (so to say), which BTW has to deal with the financial licensing of the freq band at hand. ie the bigger bandwidth 1 has the faster one can send data

  • So digital voice quality is same for both system. As for coverage (ie, the ability to receive strong signals), there's a misconception that CDMA is better than GSM since Verizon (which is based on CDMA) is considered to have the best coverage rating in the USA over Cingular or AT&T (both of which is based on GSM). If that's the case, then GSM should also be better than CDMA since Sprint (is base on CDMA) is considered to be #3 in the USA in terms of coverage rating. So coverage should not be

  • Hi all,

    Let me assist you all in comparing the two standards. I've worked in the wireless phone industry for over 15 yrs now and have worked on every single phone standards since 1989. So to start, both the GSM and CDMA (or IS-95) network is a digital 2nd generation network. 2nd generation in that its primary purpose is to deliver digital quality voice (compared to the initial analog system deployed) service. From an user perspective voice quality is the same for both since they're digital.

  • wow they seem to blatantly ignore the fact that CDMA is significantly better from a technical point of view...just research how either actually functions. and how GSM is based on TDMA, which is the oldest and far less efficient digital standard. oh yeah, and european countries are going broke because of mandated GSM years back...

  • go gsm number 1 woot

  • thanks, great video
