  • OH WOW! Watching this makes me a little home sick.

  • I am from NYC and I Say The FDR is quite nice when traffic is at a minimum at dusk which is rare...But LSD is prettier in my humble opinion ...They feel just about the same driving wise though....BIG THANX JIM

    "Ya Still THEMAN"..

    .Peace!

  • @Kingcire72x Thank you!

  • I think this is one of your best videos, Freewayjim :)

The ones in the dusk have the best music selection, in my opinion. Lake Shore Drive sure is a beautiful ride, I hope I'll be able to go there someday.

    Cheers from Italy!

  • @TailsPrower88 Thank you very much!

  • This is so awesome.. great tune.. and my hometown just 60 miles away from Chi

  • Come and show me another city with lifted head singing so proud to be alive and coarse and strong and cunning.

    Flinging magnetic curses amid the toil of piling job on job, here is a tall bold slugger set vivid against the little soft cities;

    From Carl Sandburg's, "Chicago"

Enjoy your vids especially this one.

  • @Foomba Thank you much!

  • One of the Finest Drives in the World! And doing the the Southbound 'S' curve at 40 Definitely takes Nascar skills

  • (Part 2 of 2)... when the waters of Lake Michigan reflect the moonlight to offer a complementary effect, with the Chicago skyline on the other side.

Great music, too. This video should be shared with the Chicago media outlets, as well as the local visitor's bureau. Favorited!

This video is proof that not all freeways (even if parts of LSD are only expressway-grade) need to be super wide, modern or built to NASCAR speeds to be enjoyable. Truth is, LSD is one of the GREAT American roadways, and it's been filmed by *THE* King of freeway videographers.

Perhaps the best skyline views along any roadway in America, along with the picturesque Lake Michigan shoreline, always within sight. Even better when there's a full moon out

    (continued in Part 2)

  • @FreewayBrent Thanks! it is one of the finest roads I've ever driven all things considered. LOL NASCAR Speeds.

  • @FreewayBrent The dawn is even better. No traffic. Sun rising over the Lake...beautiful

  • Man, those buildings are just massive. Largest city I've ever been in was St. Louis, which is quite small in comparison.

  • Thanks, Always perfect. This video makes me remember of my only stay in chicago as exhibitor at Mc Cormick place in 1993!

For a french citizen , I have impressed by the power of US worker unions there. Behaviors of worker unions that would never happen in Europe despite Europe may be known for some union power - but really peanuts compared to Mc Cormick union power.!

US is really a contry of constrasts.

  • Quietness ,serenity ,sweet bluish color ,cool sound jazz guitar ,your art is at the top ,Freewayjim !

  • @CALZOLA Thank you much!

  • Picking my all-time favorite urban road in the U.S. between FDR and LSD is a tough call. FDR is an blistering rollercoaster ride, and LSD is a gentle merry-go-round.

Fantastic video as usual, can't wait for the next one.

  • @Uaarkson Thank you, Good comparison!

  • Nice video, Jim. LSD reminds of a broader, longer Freedom Parkway (S.R. 10). Very nice expressway. I wished Tara Boulevard (U.S. 19/41/S.R. 3) was built this way; in its (19/41) current form, there are far too many traffic lights and drive way access.

  • @Bryant5493 Thanks, yeah Freedom Parkway is probably the closest thing in ATL to LSD, especially the views at the end of it.

  • I loved this video! Chicago is inexorably synonymous with a lot of unique aspects of pop culture and American history. It would be very hard to imagine the United States without any of its superb and modern urbanized paradises. This country is known for its infrastructure. Your video of LSD at dusk really captured the nightlife of Chicago just as it's beginning to cheerfully get up on its feet.

  • @Reiser86 Thank you!, stay tuned for the next two, I think they are "visually" better :)

  • Very impressive, and about time LSD gets done RIGHT!

  • @ScrewdUPClickV2 Thank you!

  • great video five out of five stars abd great music ,also looking forward th Lake ShoreDrive at at night

  • @mutt1256 Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!

  • Great work on the video Jim. The lighting is perfect. Interesting photo of the old S curve. From an engineering perspective that looks just plain retarded.

  • @eluko79 Thanks and I agree on the S-Curve

  • This street is long.

  • I'm so glad I got to visit Chicago this year for the first time! I'd love to move up there someday. Great video, Jim!

  • @gsnman Thanks, it is indeed a great city!

  • Nice record! I'm appreciate your work, it was such a great idea to acomplish it!

    Have a nice day!

  • @Teketkeee Thank you!

  • Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't LSD split at Soldier Field at one point?

  • @jcrockett001 Yes, Prior to November of 1996, Soldier Field was in the median of LSD. The current section of LSD around Soldier Field features southbound and northbound lanes running west of Soldier Field; prior to the 1996 reconstruction, the northbound lanes of LSD ran east of Soldier Field while the southbound lanes ran west of Soldier field.

  • @jcrockett001 I believe it did!

  • I've been watching the Weather Channel all weekend, and I did a double take when I heard the music in this video. haha just kidding with you, Jim, super video! 6:35 to 6:45 was my favorite part with the wall of towers on the right. If I'm not mistaken, I think Oprah used to live in one of those? Random fact: seeing the John Hancock Tower in this reminded me that there is an out of this world Sunday brunch buffet that takes place on the 95th floor. The BEST meal you will ever eat in your life!

  • @CosmoPhotography LOL, yeah that kind of is TWC music. Wow, 95th Floor Brunch, now that would be cool!

  • Love ur video...i visited chi-town last year, its so big.. didnt have the time to see all the sites but I loved every moment in chicago....before I use to love philly but chicago has takeing its place.

  • @Dhunt7877 Thanks, I was pretty impressed with Chicago too, especially at night as you'll see in the next four videos.

  • 6:53 - Where is that Ferris Wheel from?

  • @rickhh1 The Navy Pier

  • Nice vid. Where exactly did you hear that LSD was signed as I-494? I looked up LSD and I-494 really quick, and I didn't find that LSD was ever an interstate (the traffic lights certainly wouldn't make the standard), and I-494 was just a proposal in another part of town... then again, I probably give Wikipedia too much credit.

Oh, and I personally haven't ever heard anybody calling Lake Shore Drive "LSD"--they're the same amount of syllables, anyway--but I definately don't know everyone.

  • @RianAlive It's signed as I-494 in the 1960 Rand McNally Road Atlas on the southern part only roughly from I-55 South to 49th Street. I've heard it referred to that by other people in discussions, plus I need to save pace in the comment boxes where I can.

  • Love the pan over to Illinois Center.

  • @railclaimore My son thanks you!

  • Sweet!

  • great video. I always look forward to seeing a new video in the "subscribed" section.

  • @SuperBar2008 Thank you!

  • boring traffic but i like to song,i even fell asleep

  • @MrMarkingston Boring traffic? what does that mean, if I had my way there would be no traffic.

  • Lake Shore Drive reigns supreme. My favorite road!! Nice video Jim!

  • @FreewayTitan Thanks, I think very highly of it too.

  • Interesting I have never heard of Lake Shore Drive being compared to FDR Drive.

I have always thought they were simular, I did know that so many thought so too.

Can you name an example where the two roads were compared?

  • @1867Phoenix They are both older highways along the edges of the cities' shoreline. I have heard them compared in several discussions and in print regarding early highways.

  • @Freewayjim You could make a case that Lake Shore is comparable to NYC's West side Highway as well, which is more of a boulevard these days.

  • I like the old font better.

  • @LIRR175 I like to change things up on the non-freeway videos.

  • very mellow ride, i like it!

    Good video! :D

  • I bet during the day, Lake Shore Dr gets a lot of traffic

  • @interstateruler Yes it does.
