  • sweeeeeet.....any of you bozos dissing this.....when you can play like this.......let me know

  • I think in a song like this, it is'nt how great your voice is, but how soulful it is. This was fantastic.! Thanks for the video!

  • not for kids only and i bid fare well and meet you on those golden shores

  • The singing is expressive man, like in tune with a man of constant sorrow. It's purposeful, like the writing's of Mark Twain. Course some have banned his books, maybe the unappreciative would ban this beautiful mournful piece of greatness by creative musicians.

  • SUCH a soulfilled voice! if you don't like it don't listen......great post!!!!

  • Liked the guitar but the singing was so bad like really bad, pity !

  • JESUS CHRIST. AMEN

  • This is my shit was listening to weird al all morning making sick vids, then i pull this outta my basement, a burned grateful dawg CD WIERD AL FOOD ALBUM, MATRIX REVOLUTIONS, CHEECH AND CHONG UP IN SMOKE, SAMURAI CHAMPLOO 1,2,3 EPS, ON VHS, GOING CAMPING: BRINGING TV, GENERATOR 1500 WATT 2000 SURGE, TV, DVD, VHS, BOARDS, FRISBEES, MY DISC, AND A LOTTA OTHER SHIT I NEVER QUIT! I am a paradigm, the master of rhyme, and organic vampire of time.. NPCburnsy MC NPC Burnsy aka Matt Burns hit me up FB

  • Wow! It never ceases to amaze me how he can have such a following when his singing is so far off key. I'm not even sure if he got lucky and hit one note correctly in that song. The music is pretty decent though. The dead might have been okay if they would have just found someone who had a voice.....oh, and knew how to sing.

  • @MrSteele11111 the dead might have been ok??? you are fucked in the head man. the dead is the single greatest thing to happen since humans inhabited the earth man!!!!

  • @MrSteele11111 okay 1) just because jerry is original and likes to add some variation to his music doesnt make it off key. just different 2) he hit every note exactly the way he wanted to hit, and if he didnt he would have re-recorded it you retard 3) the dead might have been okay ?? what the fuck is wrong with you? the grateful dead is LITERALLY the single greatest thing to have ever happened. period. 4) ever thought that maybe since everyone else knows how good of a singer jerry is

  • Respond to this video... maybe YOURE the one whos tone deaf ? Honestly, if you go around posting shit like this people are gonna think youre slow or something. you ignorant asshole

  • Great tune and nice video. Can't understand why the person who posted it talks like a "gangsta from da hood" though.

  • Did you forget about Tony Rice?

  • I discovered Bluegrass through my grandpa when I was about 5 or 6.....even learned to play mandolin when I was about 11........my interest in this genre started to fade when I was about until I discovered that Jerry played Bluegrass before he was in the Dead (discovered then at 12) and it renewed my absolute love for it......now over 30 years later......I'm still loving it.....thank you Jerry :-)

  • I'm with ya Craig, but let's be happy with what we were able to enjoy! I met and waited on Grisman and his AWESOME wife and band. Chatted, over the Credit Card he left, and he is so soul.

  • scopio, you are the one who is hard of living! nice video. i miss him too

  • Jerry wanted to be Flatt & Skruggs, If & when he ever grew up, well, thats what he said, in the early sixties .....

.....that he wanted to do bluegrass ......

When he hooked up with dawg, he fofilled this wish!

  • Love this song! and with jerry and dawg singing its so good...im miss jerry...RIP

  • Man,i STILL love this song -i was lucky, i had a GREAT friend that turned me on to the Dead, and took me to 3 dead shows and one Jerry garcia band show....man,long live "Big Scotty".and those crazy, cool folks of Stella Blue....miss them all....

  • if you "dislike" this song...go back to beiber or lady gaga, or some other no-talent current pop crap music! you just don't get it.

  • Very Sweet...

I had never heard this song until the movie "Oh' brother where art tho"

released the video. This version sounds Much ...Sadder then whats in the movie .

(but gotta give kudos for it opening up many others to the "Bluegrass"

sound that Was Country Before country music got "Hip")

JERRY & DAWG Were a bit ahead of their time,

only a few were really into what they were doing with the Bluegrass thing.

(even some of the "Deadheads" didn't get why Jerry was playing that stuff)

  • F A N T A S T I C O

  • I Miss him profoundly, still shed a tear when I hear certain songs.Hears to U Uncle Jerry May U be standing on the moon shakin your head thinking What a long strange trip...it was...LoL. Be Kind Ya'll-------Peace Out Proud to be a Jerry's Kid!!!!

  • miss yeh <3

  • Pickin and Perma Grinnin. R.I.P. Jerry. I WILL pass with a smile on my face ,thank you very much! Peace Rick Wichita Kansas

  • They are truly great. Also, if you haven't hear, check them out with Tony Rice. What a tremendous trio!

  • Love this thanks for posting

  • Let sleeping dogs lay...Those who can't appreciate great music for what it is are just ignorant.

    Fantastic,anything from the Garcia-Grisman duo.

  • jerry lives on!

  • Any and everything these two played was magic pure.

    T

  • Miss JG too. He left us with a lot of good music.

  • Never "got" bluegrass. ... high lonesome voice?

    But this I get.

A slow, quiet, life-story testament of a man's life and sorrows, set to music. I get it. ... Puts me in a trance. Jerry lives, ... here. Great !

  • @fewwereinmymovie NEVER GOT BLUE GRASS TILE I GOT IN MY 20'S BUT I WOULD TRADE ANYTIME BEFORE MY KIDS FOR A MOMENT IN THAT 65 IMPALA RIDING IN THE MTS. OF THE CHEROKEE AROUND 64 HIGHWAY IN TENNESSEE .

  • thx, kid.

  • scopio...you have a lack of brains

  • Oh man, this is a good one.I think this is a rare one too.Whoever says this aint good is a lame(scorpioman and fuepie)anyway,I love this one

  • man how my life has changed since jerry passed.ive been lost since that horrible day.

  • @therambler33 20 AND ONE MONTH AND ONE DAY AFTER IT FOR ME FOREVER GRATEFUL DEAD .......STEAL YOUR FACE TATTOO..HERE .....LEFT UPPER ARM.

  • Awesom job, love this cover. If you guys like this you should also look up "massy man of constant sorrow" he does an amazing job as well :)

  • scorpioman..u have a lack of hearing

  • @scorpioman1000 ......you're a Toby Keith guy?

  • @scorpioman1000 you are obviously tone deaf

  • the beauty of youtube... i heard a version of like a rolling stone by hendrix tonight that i haven't heard in over 10 years, and now i hear this. even though zenyatta lost tonight, i have my great lake xmas ale and these tunes, and all is good. thanks for posting this.

  • Great song.

  • Damn.....

  • Thx for posting, never knew Jerry did this tune. Nice take.

  • jerrys voice is like a piece of heaven........

  • Put that shovel in the ground and dig RIGHT to friggin CHINA MAN!!!!!!!!

  • Kentucky Digs the Coal. Good Job? hahaha

  • lmao@jackstraw you gotta love the methed up metal heads!!!

  • "Oh brotha where you is?". Best movie ever made. Gave blue grass the respect it deserved and had not received. Heard skate boarding speed freaks thrash to fast blue grass now. The fast blue grass, it's ten ten faster than than any methed up metal heads can do. The rest is just amazing. DR Ralph Stanley diagnose me please. Shit. Garcia knew it long before it hit mainstream. Great shit.

  • @jackstrawfrmwchta Hey hey hey, i'm a metal head and I do not fall into the category of "methed up metal head" lol, Music shouldn't be about how fast you play but rather the content that makes the music enjoyable, I've heard fast metal songs, and fast bluegrass songs that both sucked on equal levels. I've also heard some groove metal that was a lot better than any drunken hellbilly shit kickin' bluegrass. lol, good music is good music regardless of genre

  • @kegband thats real talk

  • @kegband im with you brother. the content makes the music enjoyable. and i love jerry and dave no matter what they r playn and how they sound

  • I hate this version.

  • @TheChadddddddddd Yeah, im a big dead fan, but this version just doesnt do thangs for me

  • @jdman331 well, its not a dead song, is it?

  • @LadyAltheaIsMe nope, maybe that's why it still isn't doin' thangs.

  • @TheChadddddddddd Haha it is lacking a bit for me... =p

  • jerry we miss you man happy belated birthday

  • i love this. Im trying to jam to it right now!

  • @aztecjedi wut u play man? and keep playin its always knows to meet other musicians, i love how musicians coexist in their own way through music:)

    peace n good vibes bro

  • I have listened to these guys all my life & i still find stuff I have not heard, my mom got me into the Dead when I was a little kid & I am 47 now .. & my kids love the Dead & Jerry G as much as me 3 generations of Deadheads in my family !!! ... going on 4 cuz my daughter plays them for her kids!!!... we love heavy metal too !

  • Shit! ... Period! :)

  • I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is my roots.

  • the great journalist Linda Ellerbee wrote an article about Jerry after he died, i wish I could find it, I'm sure it's available somewhere,I just remember the last line "Jerry Garcia found dead in a drug rehab-Damnit"

  • Tony rice rules.

  • am i crazy or is there a third guitar, did jerry dub over himself?

  • @rotolo This is from the infamous 'Pizza Tapes'. It was a relaxed jam with Grisman, Garcia, and Tony Rice (the 3rd guitar you hear). You can get The Pizza Tapes from Grisman's Acoustic Disk label

  • Not to many people knew that Jerry loved playing bluegrass. In my opinion he started the Hippiegrass movement. Anyways this is a great version of this song.

  • @sniperljk i agree it seems that everyone was doing blues and jerry did too but he brought that whole bluegrass/foky sound too the music.

    i miss jerry

such a long long time to be gone and a short time to be there

  • at 1:oo in man they throw down my favorite part

  • THANKS

  • THANKS

  • Beautiful in its simplicity

  • So serene, this song brings me some where beuatiful, under a big sleepy olde' willow, watching the clouds blow from one end of the heavens to the next. By - the- By I'm pretty sure This is themusic they play in the elevator up at ole' Mount Olyimpia, tunage of the gods........harmony...wow I'm really getting my grateful dead on right now..enjoy this beautiful music everybody and play it for someone u love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jerry was da man and there ain't no doubt!!

  • posted on the stoop with a brew and a spliff, nothings truer than jerry and dawg.

  • poster has down legit, I'm sure if jerry did this live he would've decently tore up them vocals shredding the guitar= prefer solo to grateful dead

  • Great job,really enjoyed

  • mighty stuff

  • ...this song is one of the some things that make our life better folks!

  • I'd give 20 Dead shows for 3 Jerry Bluegrass shows...Oh well, I'm getting older I guess. Loved my 80's and 90's Dead shows though, don't get me wrong.

  • @GratefulCraig

I had so much fun at the Garcia band shows

  • @GratefulCraig Ill trade you bra

  • @GratefulCraig jerrys favortie music to play was bluegrass..

  • @GratefulCraig Did you go on summer tour "88? If so, we may have met. :-)) I saw just about every Calif. show in "87. Last time I saw them was June '95 just months before Jerry died. I miss him!

  • @GratefulCraig my dad went to 143 dead shows starting in like 1970 to 1996 or whatever hes probably older but all us dead heads share a common bond

  • Comment removed

  • dude

    I had the pizza tapes

    totally forgot

my ex got it I think

I heard not too long ago that pizza was what they were calling a type of heroin on the market in the 80's - cause it looked like Parmesan cheese. I thought of the cd title when I heard that.

  • awesome!

  • This has got a nice lonesome sound, but I love all versions of this song.

  • Jerry Garcia rules. Plays a mean banjo too. If you like this you should check out his other bluegrass band "Old and in the Way."

  • I never heard the guys do this, its awsome.

and the fact i didnt know about it makes me a little mad because i could have been listening to this earlier taking in the jerry esque and mellowness.

  • check out garcia pizza tapes.then check out the story.

  • AMAZING!!!!

  • These oldtimers can play!

  • oldtimers jam it the most

  • I like Russian Lullaby too!!!

  • Haven't herad this version before, wonderfull! :)

  • can anybody tell me how to get some sheet music for this song

  • It's a folk song, so there's many different versions :)

  • use your ears bro, you good enough to read you good enough to listen! ;-)

  • Isn't bad? a least it doesn't sound like it belongs on a movie soundtrack

  • sorry but I like the speed-up version better... but this isn't bad ^_^

  • This version sounds more authentic.

    Mmmousemaid

  • Excellent version!!!! I like that song alot but Jer did a great job.

  • Is there anyway to add a current vid I'm watching to my "Quicklist", without having to go back to the previous page?

    Please help.

    Thanks...

  • One way ticket dct to your soul...

  • forever listening, forever loving, forever Jerry!!!

  • I Miss Jerry!!!!!

  • People please ... You may not have noticed but what you are listening to is something called music. It is made for the expression of emotion. that emotion is different to different people this sound is not good and it is not bad it is the expression of jerry garcia at that time. The next day he may have played it completely different. And if you like it or dont it is your personal opinion.

  • sam bush no, but d.c.ent

  • they are playin my song

  • I like P, P and M better than both of them.

  • peanut butter and mustard? are you kidding, this is great.

  • It's allright. It's better than Bob Dylans version. However not as good as the Soggy Bottom Boys version.

  • I like em both, but I like this one because of how raw and natural it sounds.

  • thank you man.....jerry is jerry...and the bro with him is jerry, you, and me.

  • looks like the chick from JAG, Catherine Bell.

  • Yah....sure...right..Mmm-K.then...Ta hell with the rest of appalachia...lol what a douche!

  • I bet you can do it so much better - precisely why people are posting up youtube vids of YOU singing, right?

  • only noodlin,ONLY JERRY CAN NOODLE YOU CAN'T COPY HIM HE'S ORIGINAL it is ok for you play within the boundaries but test the champion !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HEAR THAT MINOR 7TH , when it should be minor is not sound, its rubish , beg 4 mercy

  • America's three chords. America was built on those three chords. EAB or GCD or ADE and everything in between. Jerry did it better than anyone. 'Man of Constant Sorrow' should be our national anthem.

  • Dang, you got it, home.

  • Tony Rice is playing guitar on this track as well. This off the Pizza Tapes.

  • Thank you!

  • Is it me or does Grisham look like Richard Manual at 2:26?

  • It may be you or it may be me but I think that photograph at 2:26 looks more like one of Dracula and Santa Claus, pickin' about God's Golden Shore.

  • YES!!!

  • Chills...

From the heart and hit my soul

    like a brick wall!

    Rest in Peace Jerry!

    Thank you for sharing.

    Banjoistically yours,

    Jon Eric

  • researching this song, I heard the version with Bob Dylan, which did nothing for me. Is this the first version that is similar to the movie? If so, Garcia really deserves the credit for the best version (I can find, and definately used for the movie)

Thanks for posting this, very lovely version :)

  • jerry was amazing it makes me sad that died

  • I love this music. Great for sittin' on the porch smokin' a cigar (or other leaf of choice, if that's your poison) and havin' a drink. The world lost a great artist when Jerry passed.

  • wow pure jerry love it

  • Thanks for this, a sweet alternative to Dan Tyminski's version.

  • that is the best thing i have heard in a long time, thank you!

  • Thank you for sharing. Meet you all on Gods golden shore .

  • what do Tupac and Jerry have in common?

  • they are both deceased?

  • No, Grisman's still kickin it strong and touring a lot.

  • They are both from the same solar system?
