jimi is far from the best, he really couldnt write songs, look at how much jimmy page wrote and how he puts more little licks in one song than most put into an entire album!!!! what dope is this sluring guy on?
I'm a huge led zep fan but saying hendrix was far from the best and couldn't write, shows quite clearly you know NOTHING about music whatsoever. Page wrote about 2 songs out of 400, then rearranged the rest out of old blues standards.
@barrtarr Agreed about Hendrix, and like Arthur was mainly a songwriter with a backing band. All 4 co-wrote almost everything with Zep. Page a session guitarist and recording engineer, Plant mainly wrote vocals and vocal melodies after the others had a groove underway and often lead by bonzo. Jones did most of the serious arranging and Page was a master of writing those great riffs. 4 people so talented that together they created a 5th element.
@SanctumStudios Bryan McLean (may he rest in peace) also traded vocals with Arthur Lee and wrote a good deal of their songs too. Bryan is also the older (20 years older) half brother of Maria McKee the singer for Lone Justice. Maria and her mother have a website dedicated to Bryan since his passing. Jim Morrison said he wanted to be as big as Love! Love was a very UNDER RATED and important West Coast band of the 60s and 70s.
oh shit....i just visited your page and saw all the hate filled comments. you only say this shit to get negative attention . you don't even know who hendrix is. i apologize.
I love the song A House is Not a Motel from Arthur Lee and Love. Imagine Arthur and Hendrix int he same room making music? To be a fly on the wall back then. Two amazing artists who will never be forgotten. Peace!

Alternatively, just do a search for "Jimi and Arthur Lee" and they will be first.
A childhood idol of mine in '67..sorry to see him gone. Somehow I think this guy didnt reach his greatest potential. He was at the forefront of music in california in '66/67. He wrote some beautiful music.
...It's reported to be true that Arthur was the first to get Jimi into the studio, & Arthur is credited as the 'first so-called black hippie' - altho' Arthur was 'arrogant' (...uh - 'reportedly'...)
Oh right? Apart from the fact that He says that bit with toungue in cheek then immediatly goes on to say how amazing Jimi is. There is truth in what he says, Jimi took styles from the flamboyand black artists of the time as a sign that he could get away with it. which begs the question; do you know anything about Jimi Hendrix or Arthur Lee?
there is nobody like arthur!, people are only noticing his unique brilliance now!, i actually feel sorry for people whohave never heard him! there is many old and new artists i love but he is way above anything else, even his old mucker jimi!
The Curtis Mayfield tune Arthur is referring to is "Gypsy Woman". The guitar technique is sometimes called "waterfall" and is based on "hammer-ons and pull-offs".
The reason Arthur says so emphatically that "I wrote the song" is because in later years Rosa Lee Brooks would claim that SHE wrote it. She also claims that Jimi was her true love and showed me unpublished pictures of them in swimsuits at Santa Monica beach in 1964. But I have no doubt that Arthur wrote the song.
If you can find the LOVE album "Out Here" from late 1969 check out the tune "Love is More Than Words". Amazing jam and it still sounds futuristic! The whole double album is great! God bless Arthur Lee.
jimi hendrix played on the song everlasting first on love's album false start (1970) my mp3 credits hendrix for that song in stead of crediting love
