that is exactly what has been going on* with the difference that no-one is playing according to free market rules anymore, due to constant Political and govt profiteering intervention to create Xtra revenue streams, that flow everywhere, but not back to the public.

basically any 10 year old playing monopoly gets a false impression of our actual markets, if you introduce fractional banking and a ever growing Govt into the game, after every transaction you will need employ 2 extra bureaucrats just to keep track of things so the bank knows when to print more money.

that is the worst part - not every player gets dealt the same amount of cards/cash at the beginning. Monopoly would be very different if some players got a trillion dollars and a chain of prime hotels and slum rentals while everyone else started with $5. We have very inaccurately represented what "Capitalism" is to kids, and they grow up to believe that we are living in 18th Century Merchantilism where customers "vote" by choosing Fanta over Sunkist.
