This will not happen when it is destroyed, because you need to fire the plutonium rods into the uranium core in a very tight environment to actually get an explosion to spread radioactivity. Trust me, if they had a way where you could intercept missiles, the technology would be there to shootdown enemy planes and other forms of rocketry. @cabrian1 : nukes don't blow up unless properly triggred. only real problem is possible radioactive fallout .no explosion is to be expected,except for rocket fuel,under low optimality.

@cabrian1 don't be an idiot, oops too late! What triggers a nuclear explosion is the chain reaction of splitting plutonium or uranium atoms. This is EXTREMELY Difficult and complex to perform. Simply blowing up a nuke isn't going to cause an EMP much less a nuclear explosion.

the problem is the Airborne Laser cant teleport to where the ballistic missile launchs and it can only take down the missile at Boost Phase which last for 5 minutes. So I guess the US is secretly developing new type of Satelites for taking down ballistic missles at Midcourse Phase in space

Just like the XB-70 Valkyrie super sonic bomber, an entire fleet was "announced " to be built so the Soviets spent millions upon million developing a fleet of Mig-25. Only the XB-70 was never put into production. We were already working on ICBMS when we were building the XB-70. We knew the XB-70 was obsolete before it was built

@KIBProductionz Yes I think as long as the plane is large enough. The whole laser is very huge, it's not only the "nose ball", there a lot of stuff inside the plane but I heard that the DARPA is working on a smaller one, designed to be mounted on B1 bombers... Wish I could join USAF ^^

Look up how the Phalanx sensors were used during a laser shootdown of a plane. Trust me, if they had a way where you could intercept missiles, the technology would be there to shootdown enemy planes and other forms of rocketry. Science 101: when building an offensive unit, always build its countermeasure that will effect all moving targets. This will work great against China's supposed ASBM deployment against our supercarriers. We're always a step ahead.
