  • wonderful :) i wish i could have one .... im 14 , i have gramophone HMV 102 , but i want phonograph too , but i didnt have money for that now ... and in Slovakia ( thats in Europe ) its , imposible to buy it somewhere :( ..

  • Mine is very tarnished and dull

  • Did you polish the horn Rich? Looks great

  • @Turkeydoodlers Yes polished it then put a coat of clear spray varnish so it won't dull up again.

  • Very nice rich, I just got a nice Edison standard a 1903

  • @Turkeydoodlers Nice!!

  • This is actually the best instructional videos about this on YouTube, and honestly one of the best instructional videos on anything that I have seen on here. No "Uh, that didn't work, OOPS! I dropped it, one second." Like you see on cellphone/electronic videos on here.

If I could ask, is that a Model "E" that plays two and four minute cylinders? I timed the playing and it went over two-minutes, just curious, as I am looking at purchasing one of these and wanted to know which one was best.

  • @TheNerdyRetrogamer This is a model B with a combination attachment to play 2 & 4 minute cylinders. Yes the E was made to play both.

  • The mandrel is actually tapered TO!!!!

  • the modern turntable is so boring. but this edison machine is so fantastic! great video. please more.

  • this is very nice phono !!

  • I love my long case "Home" - its a nice machine that has real presence. Before I had only seen a "Fireside" model up close which is tiny in comparison. If there was ever a good machine to own, this is it :)

Mine is a leter one which can play both 2 and 4 minute cylnders. It came with an "O" type reproducer however it was damaged beyond repair so I currently use my diamond "B" reprodicers in it even though it means I can only play my blue amberols on it.

  • I had no idea the Horn was attached to the Stylus and moved slowly across the cylinder! This is very educational; this is the "Led Zeppelin" of the 1900s! Thank you for the demonstration!

  • Is it possible to mount the cylinder on the mandrel wrong end first and make it play backward? Is the mandrel tapered to prevent this?

  • I never thought of that ?? The cylinders are tapered so they wouldn't slide up far enouph if you tried that. The madrel is not tapered. Thanks for watching.

  • Great Demo!! You have a great player too, better sound than most I think.. steady speed and nice clear sound, who could ask for more in a cylinder player?? Excellent post!

  • Thank you !!

  • Thanks again, desoto! I have purchased one and it should be here shortly! I have one more question, the stylii on these players are permanent? Or, like with Victrolas, do you have to replace after play? I am saving this vid to faves so I know what to do when it arrives :-) xoxo

  • Yes, its a permanent stylii. Congrats on your new player !!!

  • PERFECT! Thank you SO much for that! That player is so superb. So cool that the stylus is on what is akin to a queue lever!!! THanks again for showing how they are played. xo

  • Great machine. I have a Home also and its a great machine. Its still a work in progress as its a big sluggish and I think I probably need to strip the motor down and clean off all the old sticky oil. You machine is in great condition and thats a great cylinder on it to.
