hi, i have a saab 9-3 2001 x reg and it makes the same sound as your car. at first i put it down to the big end bearings, so i had the sump off and the bearings were fine, so at the moment ive been putting it down to a loose chain belt? but you say its a valve noise? how would i go about repairing this, i only know a limited amount about cars. thanks
Hey Thanks for the comment. In my previous comment, I noted the fix. Also, the car is gone after hitting a deer at 50 mph. I'm saving money for an M5 -- although in my life, it will likely mean many years. At least I can drive the Neon ACR seen in the driveway of this video!
So as a follow up: I ran seafoam thru, 1/3 in gas tank, 1/3 in with oil, 1/3 in upper crankcase. Within 5 miles better sound. At 100 miles replaced oil with Mobil 1 5000 10w40. It is conceivable that I used a small amount of 5w30 from my other car. It is also conceivable that with 1xx,xxx miles that there was a momentarily clogged pick up. All wierd noise is gone replaced my normal ticking noise.
Hey! I'm working and hadn't even had a chance to post on anyboards. :-) It's got a 121,xxx I think. It started a lot of clatter recently. I've been sick and hadn't had a chance to look at it, but made a video. I need to pull plugs. Seafoam has been recommended. In this video the clatter is actually better. I'm thinking either it's picking oil up better now, or there is some sort of foaming problem. Any suggestions appreciated!

Regarding oil - I never ran my SAABs on anything other than 0w30 full synthetic.
