this is not well permormed..this should be sung more gently...it seems sometimes that one wants to sound louder than the other, this is what I hate in opera sometimes..specially women..they want to overshadow the one to another..well they are women..but don't get me wrong I love opera..but sometimes they get to competitive...and this aria needs to be sung more subtly..
@HinggilSaTinggil They hold hands because they can feel each other while singing. It is a way of communicating. You obviously know little about that correct?
Wow, Larmore sounds different here than she does in her 2009 rendition w/ Brigitte Hool. I think she sounds deeper here because of her weight. It's as if her body is weighing her down. Now, she looks amazing after her weight loss; even her face has practically changed.
Truly enchanting rendition of these lovely "bagatelle" by a brilliant duo and acompanist. I´m still awestruck by Garanca/Netrebeko duo in Netrebko´s last album ("Souvenirs"). But surely this one is a keeper.
I know this is a silly comment, but I never quite realized how petite Jennifer Larmore is until this video! I have seen both singers live in different productions. Hong is little, and Jennifer is her size!
Anyhow....I saw Larmore doing Italian Girl, and she was absolutely fantastic (though the production was ridiculous!), and Hong is just incredible. I saw her doing Liu and The Countess at the Met. Such a special artist. Thank you for posting this!
Yeah, but I think it wasn't the best match ever for this song. I mean, it's hard to do a perfect voices match. Hong's voice sounds coulder (She have a wonderfull voice.) than Larmore...
Marvelous sound from both. And, though the song itself is fairly simple, it gives a great chance to work on dinamics. Lovely, absolutely lovely. Thank you for uploading this.
Si esta una demonia loca, estoy un demonio loco también. Perdón mi español, hace mas que 55 años que lo he estudiado a la escuela en Francia. Pero, como Vd., no me canso de oirlo. Que placer.
Pweny you seem to not accept some criticism, i'm sorry these both women have wondeful voices but you can listen on another videos of youtube others versions of this song with women with sweeter voices and they all are better than this one... it is just my opinion
It's so beautiful!I've just started singing this with the choir I am in!great source of inspiration!thanks for posting!I have the score in my hands right now:lol:!I love it.I am practicing the finale, pretty tricky thing that finale:lol:I love the mezzo!Such a warm, deep voice!Bravo!
I wonder what they say in the song. Sounds to me a little sad, .....beautiful, but sad....

Deep rich mezzo and lyric soprano together sound beautiful to my ears. I love this pair better than Horne/Sutherland or Von Otter/?.

Hong looks lovely..sings..well mediocre at best. Not in Larmore's class..no sir

I'd say that they're two different voices that are very hard to compare. Though, I think they're equal in artistic skill and technique.

The film "Life Is Beautiful" has this song sung in the opera scene.
Does TV's Gilligan's Island have this in the Hamlet play they put on? I know they used some Carmen in it.
"Hamlet dear, your sweetheart is here..."

I agree with madamx, this song needs singers with a sweeter voice.

and I'm sure if they were to sing this with full orchestra you'd say their voices were too small..and how much sweeter than these two can you get?

although the song is lovely, their voices don't match the gentleness of the music, some voices shouldn't sing certain songs
