Dells laptops have gotten better, but their desktops are fantastic. The power supplies are generally far higher quality than all the other OEMs, and on their higher end machines are really built to last. Typign this on a Dell XPS 400 that's been through hell and back (bought second hand, rebuilt it myself), and the quality is quite apparent.

Lenovo. I just bought a ThinkPad SL410 to replace a 3 year old toshiba and a 4 year old dell. The ThinkPad smoked the other laptops when it comes to speed, durability and reliability... Improved my typing speed... and feels much better to type on. It's very good quality compared to all of the knock-offs (Dell, Sony, Acer, Toshiba, and anyone else who uses a chinese ODM) and the price point was reasonable for a do machine of this caliber. LENOVO ROCKS!

I like the 1 gig video. My computer has never met a game or program it can't handle with ease. I make music and sell it so I am running fl studios with no (0) Latency, I play my yamaha keyboard and it processes the sound instantly... I highly recomend this computer!

I have repaired many, many Dell's and Lenovo laptops, and there's no comparison. Lenovo is by far the best laptop in the industry - Dell has the worst laptops in the industry. I know these machines inside-out. Opening up the guts of a Lenovo laptop is to appreciate great design - well thought out machines and supremely reliable. As for Dell's...,my God, they're designed to fail. Take it from a repair technician - Lenovo Thinkpads are by far the best.
I had a ThinkPad, which I had do bring in ca. 5 times (2 times because of the hinges!). I had a Dell Inspiron (not Latitude), which I had to bring in one month after the purchase, but since then never again. And that's both 6 years ago.

My friend buys old IBMs and puts in a new WD drive, his computers outlast just about anything new on the market. Computer manufactures just don't build things to last anymore. My Lenovo T61p ripped through 2 hard drives in 2 years, pathetic.
I have the following: ThinkPad 765D, T20, T22, T23, T40, T43, X41, T60, T61, and now an X200. They are all working great, they are excellent, even after the Lenovo switch.

Why is this question even raised? Except for the XPS, Dell is total crap compared to Lenovo. I've had my Lenovo for 4 years now, I can still sell it for at least $500 on Ebay (original price $800), and it's as fast as ever. Despite being dropped quite a bit, and being stuffed in my backpack everyday, nothing is loose, broken off. I am sure a Dell would have been dead long ago. There is just no comparison.

Well, in the defense of Dell, a lot of manufacturers were affected primarily because Sony, one of the major OEMs for Li-ion cells, allowed metallic contamination to enter the battery during its construction.
What happens is that the foreign object may manage to pierce through the separator into the cell, causing a short which can result in overheating and a runaway thermal event (adjacent cells overheat and go up) that can lead to a fire.

Laptops may always be behind the technology curve, but not significantly so. Yes, they are expensive, but the premium you pay has advantages that are vital to many lifestyles. Yes, building a desktop is much better than buying one - I'll give you that one, but that's kind of irrelevant to this video.
P.S.: I don't get ripped off by PC companies because I research before buying.
Lenovo desktops HANDs DOWN I have a old AMD Sempron 3000+ Machine from Lenovo, Thinkcenter desktop(3000J105) Still runs fine to this very day! So, Lenovo for me :D

i have a thinkpad T61 and this is my second notebook. first i had a acer. the T61 is the ultimate computer. i stumbled over the cord and i hit hard against a box and then on the ground. theres not even a scratch on it. it is fast it is portable, the screen is very good, battery lasts 3 hours. i cant imagine a better computer.

Why is this question even raised? Except for the XPS, Dell is total crap compared to Lenovo. I've had my Lenovo for 4 years now, I can still sell it for at least $500 on Ebay (original price $800), and it's as fast as ever. Despite being dropped quite a bit, and being stuffed in my backpack everyday, nothing is loose, broken off. I am sure a Dell would have been dead long ago. There is just no comparison.

I'd take the Lenovo only if its from the ThinkPad line. Otherwise, I'd avoid Lenovo.
Acer isn't good. Compaq is so-so (as is HP). Dell is just barely okay. Sony is bordering between "so-so" and "not good."
Toshiba is decent. Fujitsu is okay. Apple is okay-to-good. Panasonic is good.
Falcon Northwest is good, but be prepared to spend a lot.

Of course, a bad hard drive can happen to any computer, no matter who made it.
My criteria for a computer manufacturer:
Quality of the motherboard
Quality of the power supply, including battery in the case of notebooks
Quality of the case
Quality of after sales service (what did the customer service department do to help you with your computer's broken hard drive)

Well, in the defense of Dell, a lot of manufacturers were affected primarily because Sony, one of the major OEMs for Li-ion cells, allowed metallic contamination to enter the battery during its construction.
What happens is that the foreign object may manage to pierce through the separator into the cell, causing a short which can result in overheating and a runaway thermal event (adjacent cells overheat and go up) that can lead to a fire.

Laptops may always be behind the technology curve, but not significantly so. Yes, they are expensive, but the premium you pay has advantages that are vital to many lifestyles. Yes, building a desktop is much better than buying one - I'll give you that one, but that's kind of irrelevant to this video.
P.S.: I don't get ripped off by PC companies because I research before buying.

Lenovo desktops HANDs DOWN I have a old AMD Sempron 3000+ Machine from Lenovo, Thinkcenter desktop(3000J105) Still runs fine to this very day! So, Lenovo for me :D

i have the Lenovo r500 with the Intel P series 2.53GHz CPU and its built rock hard. Very efficient.
Wireless that comes with it is flawless with my BG router. No problems.

i have a thinkpad T61 and this is my second notebook. first i had a acer. the T61 is the ultimate computer. i stumbled over the cord and i hit hard against a box and then on the ground. theres not even a scratch on it. it is fast it is portable, the screen is very good, battery lasts 3 hours. i cant imagine a better computer.
