Most all associations require a 5 point rowel and they must have a minimum of a quarter inche of play. You can't lock them completely. Most guys have a small piece of wire that allows a quarter turn. ALthough some western spurs might work, bull riding spurs have longer shanks with offsets made with bull riding in mind. Also, you can not have a sharp(ened) rowel.
very fascinating thanks for posting this I am planning to go back to bull rideing next year after I get myself into better shape I was just watching a video with Lane Frost in it explaininng this same sort of thing and showing the rideing tips
not only that but your tongue too. i forgot to put mine in a few months ago and smacked the bulls head, about bit my tongue off, couldnt talk right for a week. still have a bump on the side. mouthguards are great things, especially for those of us who dont wear helemts, also help prevent concussions.

i use peanut butter jars as well for my black and amber rosin, i like way better then the shift bag it dont make so much mess in the jar

bullerideing spurs are design for grip , (mostly ) and so you can jump and stuff ) ( manuever on top of the animal)

As well I recomend a mouth piece ,just incase you come to a head to chin incounter,it will help save your teeth.
