hey treeztt , I've owned my 92' tt z32 for about 5 years now and always kept up with the maintenance, oil, tune, etc... i've never came across any 'major' problems but always trying to prevent any because i know these cars are tuff to work around.
my question is, if im going to do a few high performance mods (bolt-on's), should i be aware of anything? -- im going to install downpipe, cat delete, full exhaust, and an hks bov set..
I'm looking at buying a 90 na and I know the power steering line is crap as the power steering wasnt working at all when I test drove it but the steering was really loose, like you could turn the wheel a quarter turn before you would start turning. Is that those rack bushings you talked about? Or could it be just the tie rod ends? Thanks
@theman121093 - You're dead on. I can't say 100% sure that its the cause of the steering issue but I can say that its doing what 99% of the Z32s do when they have bad bushings. Its the entire rack itself moving when you turn the wheel. When it finally catches after you turn the steering wheel so far, it will start turning the actual wheels of the car.
@tyreeztt hey man, i recently bought a 91 tt 300zx and had to replace the steering rack due to leak and also getting a new tappet cover due to oil leaks. Just a couple of questions though, do you know what the stock air filter looks like? Cause the guy i bought if off said it was stock but i looked under the front bumber and i can see a large cone pod sitting there with a k&n sticker on it so im presuming its an after market filter.. Please reply, cheers.
@liblib89 - Absolutely, it can be. Which doesn't help when the oil pressure gauge reads next to nothing. You just have to use your best judgment when it comes to looking at cars with both. A quick way to distinguish is that the oil pressure gauge will usually read 0 or normal oil pressure when its going out. It usually won't just read really low all the time. On the lifters, just listen to if its one or two.. or 20+ lol They truly sound like a loud sewing machine when low on oil.
@tyreeztt hey man i have a small lifter tick but goes away after a few minutes of driving... what you do for that....I dont leak any oil or burn any, the engin has 222000km on it
@tunic31 - Does it smell like its burning coolant? Also do you regularly check your coolant levels? Before I removed the AC setup from my red Z it would leak condensation from under the engine bay around the radiator support down onto the ground, it will not come out of the exhaust though because it is a closed system operating outside the engine in a loop. If its leaking that much from inside the exhaust itself, it sound more like a coolant issue than anything else at this point.
@tunic31 Most likely its just the catalytic converters doing their jobs. You will see H20 as a byproduct leaking from the exhaust tips. If its puffing white smoke at idle you could have a blown head gasket, blown turbo, etc.
This is a GREAT video! Makes me feel better about trusting my mechanic who told me that it was just a lifter tick, I was a little paranoid about it. I just bought mine back in October and honestly I'm still trying to learn about it, I've never owned or done work on a turbo of any kind before. Good to see a fellow Kentuckian doing there thing on YT. Keep these coming, really informative! link to my vid intro of my car : watch?v=PY-vXHisWaE

You said if the lifters are ticking, it could be a sign of low oil pressure?

Do you think the Z32 body would be a good chassis for an LS1 swap?? Do you know of anyone who has done this swap?
