  • Really interesting!! :-D Nice to meet you, I'm Italian (from Iglesias), I'm Iaidoka and Kendoka, but I love also Kusarigama <3 But in Italy there isn'to schools of Kusarigamajutsu :-(

  • @Iaidoka83

This is a part of Shinto Muso Ryu Jo!

  • @mekugi

Yes I know... I love to study Koryu, also in theory :-D I was a praticer of Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu (Hatakeyama-Ha), but now the school it's stopped :-( So I'm praticeing "only" Iaido and Kendo, but I'm starting to study also Muso Shinden Ryu XD Can I ask you how much are the schools of Kusarigamajutsu? I don't know exaclty... :-/

  • @Iaidoka83 Araki Ryu, Hoten Ryu, Kiraku-ryu, Masaki-ryu, Nito Shinkage-ryu, Shibukawa-ryu, Tendo-ryu, and Toda-ha Buko-ryu are a few. There are probably more but I dunno. Many schools died out that used them, so it seems we have only a few left. For example Fusen Ryu was renowned for it's use of the Naginata, but now there are only a handful of the taijutsu kata left, called Taihen-no-waza.

  • That is a truly stunning looking dojo. It looks great!

  • did not know there was another school with the same name. Now that's interesting, I'll try to find some info on this other isshin ryu school

  • I wanna go! I wanna learn! Gaaaaaaaah!

Do you think they'd accept some boy with long blonde hair into their dojo? :P

  • are you joking? you think theyd discriminate on your hair? and besides theres tonnes of dojos around for all kinds of martial arts

  • mekugi, Thank you for this very good video! I Like it very much. I like the way they show it very slow and showing very good technique and good focus. Only in Japan you see true budo. I still see true budo in the U.S. but most of dojos here are watered down and corrupted by greed and commercialism. Most us don't know any better and accept it and worship the black belt! I hate black belt factories!

  • I agree with you about Black Belt factories. It's dissappointing to see tradition being changed or forgotten just so people could achieve their ranks faster. It takes many years to be a black belt not a few.

  • AMEN!!!! I swear the only belt i want is a white belt... no one will ever master a martial art, theres always more to learn no matter the amount you know. I will forever be a learner and so forever will i want a simple and plain obi to wear as i learn. no patches on my gi outside of my mon, and no color belts.

  • The same thing does happens here in Japan. It's no different! :-)

  • Hey can you get a kusarigama class or bunkai video?

  • You have to join Shinto Muso ryu jo to practice Isshin Ryu- it's a "heiden Bujutsu" (assimilated budo). I am not sure what you mean by a bunkai video.

  • Why do you call this Isshinryu? This is not Okinawan? Do you claim this is founded by Tatsuo Shimambuku?

  • Check wikipedias entry for "Bunkai". :)

  • Not to mention being willing to spend between 6-10 years in SMR-Jo before becomming high enough in level. :)

  • Very cool!

  • wow this is pretty recent are you in japan?

  • Yes. I live in Mie prefecture.
