cool fish, but like the ropefish and other similar fish they're a pain to feed (they can't catch anything that doesn't swim into their mouth) I had to stick feed mine pieces of shrimp/fish or "hand" feed em worms.
guys ... i am interested in the fish so much but even my supplier tend not to take them as they die easily in the captivity . is there anyone manage to keep this fish for long ?
@wowraptor They have large in-filter heaters and de-icers for the winter. Or did you assume that all pond fish can live in fucking 30 or lower degree water???
ok. so im looking into buying these dudes. i have to no alot. all i no is the walmart ones(lol) are about six inches, and watever the card says in walmart. apparently i shouldnt buy it FROM walmart.. so i guess ill get it at exotic anilmals.can someone tell me some facts i should reallly no before i get it not noing wat im getting into?
I also got a dragon fish in walmart but it is salt water. Walmart is a bastard. I bought like 5 dragonfish there and i didn't know y they where dying. Damn it. Know i got a arowana.
(sniff) I had a Dragon fish once, he died today and I'm very..very sad his name was Sargent Roger, I really want to cry right now, but cool dragon he looks cool... just like mine!!
hey i got a question i got a dragon fish today at walmart too and the lady told me that i could combine my platys with the dragon is that true....if not so i could return it...
first of all, walmart is not the place to buy fish; secondly you shouldnt buy any animal unless you have researched it, so that you already know what it needs to survive.
@gunshogypsy Well you know what. some towns don't have anything more than a Wal-Mart. Brainerd MN has one pet store, and a wal mart. And the fish in the pet store are in such SHIT condition compared to the wal mart ones. I've boughten plenty of fish from wal mart that lasted more than ONE year at least.
Dragon fish are non aggressive fish. They will go good in large community tanks with other non aggressive fish. They are filter feeders meaning when they swallow water they are also getting the little critters in the gravel/sand. They are moderately hard fish to keep and hard to feed. They search the whole tank for food so chances are what you already put in has already been eaten by another fish. And don't buy fish at walmart, walmart sucks.
@waldorodriguez1 yes it is safe.....but if u have ghost shrimp.....it will it em dats der diet.....and like @ gunshogypsy said dont by fishes from walmart
Hey, I have one of these, living with a blackfin shark and a plesco algae eater. He wont eat if I just put the food on the top of the tank. I try to get close to it with food to put the food near it's mouth, but it always runs away with fear. Can anyone please help?
get frozen blood worm cubes. It will eat those. Just be sure though, if you don't have undergravel filtration, to hold the worm cube on the side of the tank until it gently sinks otherwise the worms could get sucked into your filter.
just like knife fish, dragon fish r nocturnal, they mainly move at night, if u want to see, watch them at 3 am threw ur night vision camera, its cool.
I just bought one of these from wal mart like 4 days ago, it is very un active and very calm , it hides under the boat i have in the tank and i never see it move, i hope it eats at night when im asleep, what do you guys feed yours?
i have one in two 50 gallons connect through tube... its not active alot. my stupid sister traind it when i went to my aunts house and kniw it only eats live glo fish ----
I have 2 of these in a 50 gallon tank with a variety of small fish breeds. Mine are about 6 inches long and so far seem to be extreemly non-agressive even though they are the biggest fish in the tank.
well, sadly, he past away a week ago. he grew to be almost a foot long at just over a year old. i am not sure what happened, he showed no signs of illness and just died. they have an average life span of about ten years in captivity. try and make sure yours are in a brackish water environment, keeping mine in a freshwater tank is the only thing I know of that may have ended his life early.:(
If you keep a Dragon Gobi at Freshwater, it will only live for a year at most. So you must have been a good owner, cause you lived that Gobi's life to the fullest in freshwater.
They pretty well lay on top of each other or opposite sides of the tank one or the other. They have never shown any signs of aggresion towards each other. But they were both bought from the same tank and placed in at the same time. I'm told that helps avoid the agression issues alot. they are nearly 9 inches now act like they are dead for the most part. well fed and very lazy... :( Everything else in my tank is hyper as Hell though :)
:( I lost one today for some unknown reason. He went to the bottom, twitched, balled up and then no movement. The way mine are somedays I just kinda figured it playing possum til the other one decided his brother was food. lol So sad. I'm glad these things are kinda cheap.
You weren't keeping the gobies in brackish water. That might be why that one died. In general, they're pretty hard to kill, but they require the addition of artificial sea salt to reach their potential lifespan.
The reason your gobies were not aggressive towards each other is they were not mature. Once they reach maturity (around 10") it's WWIII.
I think it sucks that these fish are cheap. Any idiot with $2 can buy a brackish fish that grows over two feet long and kill it. That's sick.
i got mine at wamart 4 or 5 years ago he is very sweet and i feed him shrimp pellets

They are nocturnal. Feed them before you go the bed and they will eat it overnight. They LOVE bloodworms!
ElementalAtHeart 3 years ago
Don't buy fish from WalMart.
Is the dragon fish (violet goby) still alive? It will require a large tank and brackish water to survive.
As ElementalAtHeart said, they love bloodworms. It's also important to include algae in the diet. Algae wafers work.
