Well, originally a dandy is not necessarily that well respected: Merriam-Webster defines a dandy as a man who gives exaggerated attention to personal appearance or who cares too much about his clothing and personal appearance.
Thanks to YouTube a lot of people discover or rediscover the Kinks. What would be fantastic would be to edit DVD-audio album of everything they did up to Pete Quaife's departure (another volume with the rest might follow).
if you don't mind it sounding overly simple-minded and totally missing the deeper expression, as intonated by the edginess and bite of Ray's vocals and inflections
Ray is a master of having deceptively simple-sounding lyrics until you catch the full gist of them, paired with his vocal execution--which is, as always,
Clinton Ford may have written this song in 1967, but Ray Davies actually wrote it in 1966......so unless Mr Ford has a Delorean and his middle name is Mcfly then i'll leave it to you to figure it out ;o) Brilliant tune, can't pick a favorite Kink song cause loves them all. God save The Kinks!
More than a brilliant track! Magnifician!!! A butler USA! What a song written ba Clinton Ford, around 1967. I love the KINKS; BEATLES; Alice Cooper etc.pp The times they are achanging. Hope we all have a brilliant future !
@titostacos It was a huge shock to me as well, after all those years of listening to the versions by the Kinks and Herman's Hermits. There's an audio-only version here on youtube, just do a search with "Clinton Ford" and more info about him on Wikipedia!
@Codackussell The Hermits version is great. Young Peter Noone's leering really works well with this song. Zero probs with this version--Davies is one of my heroes. But it's not fair to say that the Hermits' version sucks.
I love The Kinks and Herman's Hermits. I also love both versions of this song equally.
