oh no.. why did i look.... this just crushed my child hood imagination andcuriousity,,,of where the trolley went,...and that his house was not real..etc,.....
No matter where Mr. Rogers was, on the set or off.. he was a big icon in my childhood. It is heartwarming to see the man again after so many years. He's probably the only human that ever existed that makes me feel like the world isn't such a bad place after all. I salute you sir.
Now, this isn't the only episode where Mr. Rogers goes behind the scenes. He once in awhile walked off the set to speak with the music director, John Costa. In one scene he started to sing a song and then he stopped...and then he began singing but without music accompaniment which led to him walking toward the camera and over to the piano where Costa sat. Another episode shown him speaking ALL the voices on camera when an artist did a painting of him surrounded by the puppets.
@natediggetydog10 That perception of leg crossing seems to be a generational thing. I've seen plenty of men of Mr. Rogers' generation cross their legs "like a girl".
u know what used to disturb me? Even as a kid? When Mr. Rogers talked about his sons. Because that had to mean that most likely, he and his wife actually had sex. Like, how the hell does anyone have sex w/ Mr.Rogers? He's just not the type of person who should have sex w/ anyone.Ever. Like, did this woman actually get turned on by Mr. Rogers? How is that humanly possible? anyway,Daniel the Tiger & X owl were my favs.Lady Elaine Fairchild was disturbing
the weird thing is after 10-15 years, it seems i remember every detail of this episode. such an impact. such a great role model in this post-sandusky world
"The guys who made Sesame Street wouldn't dare ruin their illusion by showing kids the set and the crew."
So says you. Many Muppeteers have taken their own kids to work with them without the magic being broken when they see performers making the characters work. It's just that the illusion for The Muppets happens to be them treating the characters as separate from their performers, so that The Muppets come off like real people, with their performers as their handlers.
he shows peoples jobs so kids can dream, the guy that is in yo gaba gaba musta watched mr. rogers. some kid wants to be the next mr. rogers, and maybe wants to be a muppet or voice... plus as kids we need the curtain drawn so that when wall street apec and false wars occur we don't just believe what we see on tv
The guys who made Sesame Street wouldn't dare ruin their illusion by showing kids the set and the crew. But Fred Rogers insisted on full transparency. He believed, correctly, that kids, especially the street smart and savvy ones, can spot phonies from a mile away.
From my perspective, telling how the magic works doesn't ruin it. The Muppets do the same too, after all. The magic still exists, because truthfully, the magic is in the message Mister Rogers & The Muppets try to present to the world...that each of us is unique & as such, we all have something to offer. To put it simply, as Mr. Rogers himself always said at the end of each workday, "There's only one person in this world like you & that's you. And people can like you exactly as you are."
@TherealRNO ya I remeber watching this when I was little and when he was showing the puppets I thought they were just sleeping and he wanted them to talk so they did. ( except the shy one XD )
for me.. and for so many other kids... Mr. Rogers was the ONLY adult who ever spoke to you with respect and kindness. thanks to all the youtube folks who post their videos.

Few people know Mr. Rogers was a Navy Seal. He could take out a room full of terrorists with any one of those puppets =}
