why not get out and acually revolt and protest... police are never going to change as long as citizens remain scared little girls. police officers no longer work for you they work for a corrupt government. the day that people start to realize that we out number the police and the other corrupt politicians is the day that things will really begin to change and hopefully it won't be violent. the supreme court did rule that police are not obligated to protect you despite the police propaganda

Crossing in the middle is much better than crossing at a corner,... 1st, I cant control all the people out there, and have no crystal ball that will show what they are about to do,... ie. WHY? would I want to double my risk, when (if I cross in the middle) I will only have to look BOTH ways,... Crossing at a corner, makes it nessessary to look in 4 directions, to assure my safety.

Jay walking is wrong but not $208 worth more like $10. Crossing in a cross walk and having the light change before you can get to the other side if you can’t run a 10 second 50 yard dash is beyond the pail. Video tape the light with a stop watch on the crossing light and take it to the judge.

Next is to find out how to file a motion with the court - (maybe Aclu) to have the ticket dismissed and all others on grounds that impossible to cross the street legally. Refund the money that was collected.

I live in Savannah. If you come here for St.Patrick's Day.. Be very aware of the Police presence. They CAN and WILL designate you "publicly drunk" if you even dare to stumble , have bad knees, tourettes, palsey, etc.. BEWARE A sister POLICE DEPT. at adjoined TYBEE ISLAND recently tazed an 18 autistic young man. Accused him of being drunk. Savannah is a wonderful City, but our POLICE DPT. is full of POLICE BULLIES. WATCH OUT !!!!!

I don't jaywalk so I wouldn't get in trouble for this. What is so frustrating is the city busses that break the law by not yielding to pedestrians where it's designated. These are people that know the law and know they are supposed to stop. In one instance a police officer didn't yield just so I could see him five min later buying a cookie at parker's. no kidding!

I'm conflicted.

$208 is ridiculous. This looks to be geared towards tourists and upper/middle class residents. Tourists in particular. Who on vacation would know that crossing a dead street could net you a hefty fine?

But, we do need jaywalking laws to keep people from doing something stupid, like crossing a busy intersection. But, $50 worth of dumb would be steep enough, $200 is pure greed.

$208 is absolutely disgusting. I work a part time job at a grocery store at 9$ an hour while going through college.

So when I hear $208 I hear 23 hours of lifting 50 pound boxes for WALKING ACROSS A STREET.

I remember when the police used to fight crime - unfortunately it looks like these police are CRIMINALS THEMSELVES.

I think the police have better things to do than waste their time on jaywalking. The fuss about the jaywalking is coming from a little higher up the chain. Why are we blaming the cops for this and not addressing the real problem? Cops don't make the laws......

Just for the record.The Swedish Delegate was hit in the crosswalk of Oglethorpe @ Bull street This is an unsignaled crosswalk, and one of the worst places in Savannah for cars disregarding the crosswalk, including police. This is in my front yard.. I have NEVER seen a motorist given a ticket here for charging the crosswalk. Incidentaly, within minutes of the incident one of our saftey oriented cops was involved in a traffic accident near the federal buildings @ Whittaker. He was coming to help..

code enforcement, animal control, patrol cars have been stalking us in my small, rural far N.  corner of town neighborhood, where middle/upper class homeowners live...they know they fill the city coffers...obvious!

They are targeting the middle and upper class...probably because they know they will receive the money...the poor will not usually pay it or will ask for a reduction...around where i live, the code enforcement, animal control and police are stalking us in my small rural area in the far N. of town limits because it is mainly middle to upper class homeowners...it is obvious, as we are trapped here by a mountain range behind us...only two roads out...

I am a subscriber. I understand what is going on in this day and age and I want to know, how I can do more.
