It passed me by the first time. Then a few years back, I was in Tulsa and they played She's Acting Single on the radio. It hit me like a ton of bricks. That voice! The tremelo in his voice shook me. I wrote the name and the song down and I have bought every thing by Gary I could find...which is by no means enough! Release everything he has done. I want more! Thank you.
you know, i been havin a tough time workin on a album thats mostly about drinkin.. this made me feel a s**t ton better about myself. thank god for other drunk mother f'ers like me
It all ended kinda sad like. After his son committed suicide and his wife died Gary just could not handle it any more. Still lovein all of his songs. R.I.P Gary
yea he's right about radio, too much biz not enough art,oh yea and for those who didnt notice,he's geeked up pretty good here, but god love him,he was good
He truly had one of the strongest and most clear voices that ever existed. Solid Country Gold. Put him in the Country Music Hall of Fame NOW!!! He was honest, nice, and truly talented. A true legend and an American Treasure. Can't say enuf good things about this man. All of his music was good. Start with "The Essentials" then work your way out from there, you will not be dissapointed.
He truly had the potential to become the king of country. I've grown up on this man's music, because of my dad. I love his songs, though at the time I never really appreciated it. Now I do.
@highart2003 There is much you don't have because there was much recorded but not released. We have hours of live and studio recordings not yet released. Check out the Gary videos on our youtube. We plan on releasing a new cd ,'Live In Kentucky", recorded the year before Gary joined Hightone, By Garys co-writer and bandmate, Sonny Tackett. Its the best live recording ever done on Gary, when he was in his prime.
@moondancerrecords ,You know, i wude love to hear Gary's never release music.when i was young,i always look for he's new album,i heard hey bottle, your afriend of mine??? that sound good.please do something, can't waite to hear more.
This is amazing. I have been looking for some kind of video of Gary playing at South By Southwest in 1993 for 16 years! I've got an old scratchy sounding cassette of his set at La Zona Rosa that year, but I had never seen video from it until today. Thank you- this is a Holy Grail for me. It means a lot to me to finally see it, even if it's only for a few seconds.
You take one of Gary's CD's or some other's from Hightone or Lost Highway records and EVERY song on the CD is great ! Unlike most of the big label's so called superstars who only have 1 or 2 good songs out of 15 recordings.
You should have felt that star thing , even in 1975 you had already been a "STAR" to we who knew and loved you..

Somebody needs to do a biopic on this guy's life. That'd be just awesome.

Boy Didn't he say tha TRUTH !!!......
"People don't get to hear the Best Music..."
The BEST music IS the underground stuff.
You take one of Gary's CD's or some other's from Hightone or Lost Highway records and EVERY song on the CD is great ! Unlike most of the big label's so called superstars who only have 1 or 2 good songs out of 15 recordings.
