Great video. These books are true treasures. I'm surprised they're not in some kind of sterilized innert environment, and that gloves aren't required when handling them. Imagine seeing these books 500 years from now.
I particularly liked the Johannes Kepler book, "Harmonice mundi". The idea of representing the planets in a kind of musical notation is marvellous.

@stooncol619 "I just want 2 say that the first book was a transilation 4 arabic book"
The almagest was originally written in Greek in the 2nd century AD in Alexandria by a chap called Ptolemy. So it was NOT an islamic text. It was later translated into arabic, and it is known to us via this translation.
@stooncol619 The advanced science and mathematics, and Greek and Roman histories written and saved by Arabian scholars, not by Mohammad, and there is no mathematic or scientific revelation in the Quoran. In modern times Muslims try to destroy science by attacking scientists and their free speech, both with rhetoric (like creationism) and even sometimes with violence.
Because of the attacks on science, most people know for a fact that Islam is a childish belief system from the dark ages.
Yes, arabic, not islamic, let's not confuse the two. Pre-Islamic arabic cultures had great respect for scientific investigation. Sadly shut down by islamic clerics as blasphemous, equating investigation with challenging the supernatural order.
This propelled once great arabic cultures into a dark age; and without benefit of a reformation, a renaissance, an enlightenment - a dark age that still holds back the region to this day.
A quran is not "amazing", but Newton's Principia is.
This was a great vid, but ffs WHY IS SHE TOUCHING THOSE BOOKS WITH HER BARE HANDS!?? The residue on bare skin helps to degrade books, especially old books. Old books I've handled are only allowed to be handles with clean cotton gloves. This should be the order of the day for all old precious books.
@CrakenX turns out there are two schools of thought about handling books with gloves, and this librarian is from the bare hands school... must say I did feel very lucky being so close to those books... high geek rating!
Couldn't resist having a thumb through Copernicus (with permission of course!)
How great that they are public and not locked away in some private collection...
@defect530: Why? It the last memory, and in this case it lasted. It would seem death was treated a little more casually back then. The morbid part is that 44 of them were made and sold.
what the track name?

I can't believe how well preserved these books are! I have books that are in a way worse shape than these are.

Wait, you're just allowed to touch the books like that? I would have thought you'd at least have to wear gloves...
Also, those books are gorgeous. I wish I could have the chance to see them one day. You're a very lucky man, Brady.

@CrakenX microbiologists don't use gloves either, you are naturally more careful and precise without gloves!
At least that's what I am told...
