There's an enormous amount of work and creativity that goes into a game (much more than a painting or song), to create not only the action, but the ambiance, the visual effects, the sound effects, the subtle mood music, etc. And it's made for the sheer enjoyment of other people, which also makes it art.

Pft, there are many more video games besides shooter ones that contain content which does indeed make you question yourself, enlighten you, or cause you despair. A great video game plot line, told through cutscenes or other methods can cause emotional reactions, just like movies and books can.
@LindenBree, Planescape Torment has to be one of the greatest games ever made in turns of storytelling. It's probably the equivilent of a 1000 page book if not more. It's absolutely brilliant and uses amazing artwork.

I'm a highschool student, I'm in a computer sciences course.I've made a few games, and I think videogames are art. It may not be good music, but saying "this isn't REAL art" is the same as a Christian saying "well, those who believe the Bible promotes slavery aren't REAL Christians." It part of the "no true Scotsman" argument, it's inherently fallacious. So I'd argue that it's either all art, or none of it is, it's personal perspective.

You cant really narrow down art, since lately art has been so freely open and fuzzy. You look at a painting and say its art. You look at a statue of some sort and say its art. But when you look at an object thats fucked up beyond recognition - while you say "wtF is this shit?" they pay handsome money for it and say its art. So...
