listen you guys. if you are really cyclists think about doping and who is involved. Is L.A? what about Campionissimo? Who do you respect? Who do you dream about when you ride?
@222mozart If you do love cycling that much, than you should know that doping (with all possible and unpossible stuff) was the culture. EVERYONE was doped in the Tour de France by this time. And deaths like this wasn't that very rare. What was rare with this footage was that this was probably the first time that it was broadcasted live on TV.
So don't judge Tom Simpson for being just as everybody else. Judge the whole culture in that case.
@olssonII ehm to be fair you're the one who looks not to know much of cycling : by writing that everyone was doped in the 1960s cycling , you spell out a nonsensed and totally false statement , better a typical clueless
bs anglosaxon style !!
It's just the opposite : since NONE or at least very few were getting doped in the 1960s ( an era in which
everything about cycling was so much better & cleaner ) , the case of doping assumption by Simpson
( assumption of amphetamines , a candy compared to what they keep on taking since end of 1980s ...) heppened just 'cos doping didn't exist those years and nobody could teach Simpson which way to take amphetamines 'cos nobody knew it . In addtion, that case was so eclatant just because was the first ever and in such a visible way , so since that day doping and amphetamines started on been known and banned from cycling .
At last I have to add that doping is a peculiar and very practiced
activity of many speaking English countries ( expecially USA, but not only ) : cycling really stopped to be a great fair very very tough sport when US dopped faggots and shameless liars started on ruining it with all their massive endless indiscriminate doping ( just think at Epons Armstrong King of doped cheaters and farcical clowns ) , before they came into cycling just to dirt one of most beautiful sports everything was enough fine ( not very good or perfect, just fine ) .
But I have to say that behind Spain , the dirtiest & biggest cheating nation in last 12 years of sports doping , also the UK have started on doing their own : just think at the incredible , shamefull, superdirty ( fake ) golds stolen in Cycling track on Bejing '08 ( just a little advice of what's gonna happen with them on London 2012 ...) or at that bunch of doped cunts , but I should say that scandal of cycling team , that is the Team SKY UK Pro Cycling ( bradley wiggins , brian holm )
I went to Mont Ventoux last week to pay my respects , I did not understand how close he was to the peak he was only about 100 or so meters from tha top , Mr Simpson R.I.P
The post mortem found that he had taken amphetamines and alcohol, a diuretic combination which proved fatal when combined with the hot conditions that day.
I never met him - but he lived 1 kilometer from my home in Belgium - I see his house at least 1 time a week and I always have to think about this tragedy !
Saw Tom race at Fallofield track in Manchester (England). He was an inspiration during my cycling "career" - but this day changed everything - hey, Tom, was winning REALLY that important??
