It's a lot of fun, but I'm finding that raccoons love the peanuts that I used to put into our hanging birdfeeder. They yanked out the feeder and took it completely away! So we use smaller regular bird seed and a heavier, more secure hanging feeder that we found at Home Depot. No problems so far, and it's great fun to watch the birds!
I tied a yellow ribbon on one feeder and a red ribbon on another feeder and that added color seemed to attract the birds nicely. In about 1 week they found the feeders, and they haven't stopped visiting since!
Thank you, Sam! There are still plenty of wild food sources available, so our feathered friends are rushing to the table (yet). In winter there will be plenty of hungry ones, and we can't wait to see the colorful cardinals and blue jays. xxooJay
