@defnyung I was going to do that, but then i looked the Canon Camorder Mini Hot Shoe to Universal Shoe Adapter on ebay. Which I think GanEdenAustralia used to attach his Rode Mic.
Thank you for uploading this set up!!!! I have a Canon HF S200 and I was really impressed with what you've done!!
I had NO IDEA I could use the Sony GP-TRX LANC pistol grip on this camera!!! I have been wishing Canon would some out with a control grip like ones I have seen with Sony's, and I never imagined that the Sony grip would work with my Canon!
Hey GEA, Great setup. I do have a question. I am having a problem with the remote control and focusing on my s200. With the hfs100 when I use the remote to focus all I have to do is hold the button down on the remote. It would glide through focus. With the s200 to focus w/ the remote you have to keep pressing the button to focus it works in steps. Do you know if a third party plug in remote would solve this problem. Thanks..
Hey man, go on ebay and get a (7" lcd screen tap) with the right hdmi connection ! So when your filming, u no longer have to look at ur little lcd screen. I do (pro short films) with this same model. Let me say its very worth it to have that 7" screen dude. Just type 7" lcd screen on ebay, making sure it has a hdmi acceptance & your rolling. Cheers man.
i have a couple of those grips! AWESOME bits of kit! used them with old Hi8 cameras and then with my GL1 and 2...even rigged it for my sony Z1U...but it does NOT work on a DSLR...learned that in the field...great setup you have!! great vid!
@magetv Thanks mate. Would be awesome if they could work with my 600D! Dunno why Canon or Sony can't make them for DSLRs! :) At least they still work on new HD camcorders though with LANC.
Does the rode mic connect straight into the canon vixia hf s200? I heard one guy say it didn't and I'm about to buy this canon vixia hf s200 and need to know. help???
Hey GanEdenAustralia.....Ummm I have the camera but none of these accessories are these the right stuff for filming short films cause in the video you mentioned it being for skateboarding...and the RODE mic could you also get a longer cord for it to attach it to a boom pole and if you can, would it have to be a RODE boom pole....
@GanEdenAustralia I can't find the grip on ebay where did you get yours and for the rode mic do the plugs detach from the mic, I was wanting a longer cord for the boom pole :)
@YoureSoFunny no, it doesn't have to be a rode mic. check out this diy boompole build.
watch?v=83d3qLHaAN4
just build that, but DONT GET THE ADAPTER AT THE END if you want to use ur rode videomic. the rode video mic has a 1/4 threading on the bottom (tripod screw size) so you can just mount that right to the boom pole WITHOUT THE ADAPTER AT THE END!! it should work!!
@YoureSoFunny oh wait!! my earlier respone was wrong!! you would need an adapter!!! just punch this in to google shopping. "ePhoto Tripod Monopod Convert Screw Adapter by ePhoto SAS4F8MB 1/4-3/8"
Hey, what lens hood is that? I'm having real trouble finding one for the Canon WDH58 or an 82mm thread lens. Your help would be hugely appreciated, thanks man.
I just finish my project and have all you got in your video, not the hand grip i didn´t find it but i made a PVC suport tha works great and protect the camera all around.
Hey, I was watching this review and noticed that you've got the zoom h4n in the background. Have you tried using that with this camera? I have the zoom and am looking at buying the canon hf s20. I'd love to know how the two compliment each other.
@GanEdenAustralia I just bought this camera due to this and other great reviews. I hooked my Zoom h4n up straight from the line out on the zoom to the line in on the camera on the right front side. What's nice about this is I can put the zoom h4n in 4 channel mode and use 2 wireless mics as well as the built in mics on the zoom. I also use it to record live music videos. The two work great together for anyone who's wondering.
Did you need an adapter ring for the fisheye? I just ordered one with a 58mm thread for mine, I realized after though that it read 68mm on the front. I'd appreciate a reply!
The camera can't shoot at different frame rates as far as I know...however, you can adjust the shutter up to 1/1000. If you slow it down (time remap), there is literally no distortion, you need a shit tone of light on your subject though. If you check out my channel, the video titled "I'm not a loser" was me trying out a 1/500 shutter and it looked pretty good.
@GanEdenAustralia yea, but there's an option on higher end camera to shoot slow motion without post. I think its FPS? I forget what its called exactly.

i have a 0.7 widangle lens (58mm back - 82mm front)...however im looking to get a lens hood to fit on the front of it (82mm)...if i attach an 82mm lens hood will it intrude on the footage? please help :D
@FatCatMedia Depends what make the lens is. I have a matte box which has a 80mm hole that slots right over the Canon wide lens and there is no vignetting. I guess its best to try and see really.
@TangoSkateTeam The lens hood was with the wide angle lens. The lens is 80mm wide at the front so any lens hood or matte box that has a clamp will even attach to it.
Nice setup! I wonder, do you disassemble everything when you take it somewhere, or do you have a case where you can just put the whole setup in?
Canon has just brought out a camcorder called the XA10. That seems to be a VERY interesting camcorder as well, I'm looking forward to read some tests and reviews about it!
Thank you. For now I do detach the accessories as the case for the camera is big enough just for the camera and wide angle lens only, but they attach very easily. I guess I do have a larger case somewhere I could use that the entire lot could just go into.
As I said in the vide the w/a lens will work with any camcorders as I have attached it to the Sanyo HD1010 I also have and the JVC HD7 and it works flawless with no vignetting or barrelling problems. I have seen them go on ebay as low as $50!
