  • This is incorrectly attributed to KUBE. "Almost Live" did this and it was stolen by KUBE.

It's the same show that started a panic when they reported, with pictures, that the space needle fell over.

  • @USDJ2722 Then why does my original cassette which I ordered from KUBE have KUBE 93 on the cassette jacket? Why does the back say lyrics written by Tom Hutyler who was an Ackerley Communications employee i.e. KJR AM & FM & KUBE? Why are KUBE & KJR the only radio stations mentioned, KUBE predominantly in the chorus? Why do I have emails from a former Ackerley/current Clear Channel employee who worked on this and wanted a hard copy? The song came first when the video was made it aired on King 5.

  • @MBigDaddyM Holy crap, someone else still has their cassette? Do you still have your KUBE KLUB card?

  • California movin' in.... it's the reason I moved out after living there my entire life. I just hope they don't move to where i now live.

  • I'd say very early 90's. Stylistically it seems more 80s. Nice to see things I fondly remember.

  • From a true Seattle-ite who now lives in California - THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!!!

  • I LOVED THIS VIDEO, MY LIFE IN ONE VIDEO, I SHOOK HANDS WITH BRAKEMAN BILL AND RODE IN THE DAFODILE PARADE WITH HIM WHEN I WAS A LITTLE GIRL, DANCED WITH J P PATCHES AT A SHOE STORE, MET STEVE LARGENT, ALL OF THIS I CAN REALLY RELATE TOO! I LOVE SEATTLE AND ALL OF IT;S RAIN!

  • That's funny I have this on VHS.... Never thought that Id see it on you tube... I even contacted KUBE about remastering the tape.

  • What are they saying when they show the ferry at about 2:50 ?

  • Cool retrospective video. But, I spent my first 45 years in Seattle, and I don't EVER remember the KUBE playing good music...of course, I was a KISW fan back then, KOL earlier...

  • KUBE before the ganstas took it over....

  • California transplant here. And I hate LA. Moved here to get away from it. But dangit, it's a little chilly today.

This was a fun video. Corny, as expected (hey, it was 1990), but shows some of the things that makes Seattle the best place to live.

Now let's go get a cup of coffee, shall we?

  • I have this on cassette. I really need to transfer it to MP3 one of these days...

  • poor sonics

  • Thank God I moved out of that place. Highly dysfunctional, hyper-granola, introverted, chilly people. Unique vibe, but the NorthWest is just strange on so many levels.

  • @RSCII Yes, we're strange. New York is that stressed out micro-manager. Miami - lots of fun, not much brain. LA is a cross of bimbo and best buddy with attitude. Dallas...may not be on the same planet. Seattle is the strange guy in the IT department that will fix your hard drive, but look at you strangely if you ask about weekend plans.

  • @RSCII amen. finally someone tells the truth about this cesspool. we should hang out.

  • Seattle is the Best City in the USA hands down. The location alone cannot be beat.

  • @asmoxbaby

    Yeah,

  • Very cool that you put this on here! My sisters and family (all but me, sadly) grew up in Seattle and we have a VHS tape of this very thing! I was sorting through old VHS's last night and came across it and of course watched. I was curious to see if it was on YouTube.... and here it is! We've all loved this song/video for yeaaaaaaaars!

  • I should add that I'm from California, but I honestly do LOVE it in Seattle. Practically all of my extended family lives there and I'm always so happy when I get to go visit them. I hear a lot of people complain about the weather, but I love rain and think I'd be happy living there. I wish I'd grown up in WA too, and not just my older sisters!

  • I remember being there when this song came out! Will be back in August!

  • if you don't believe in God, Seattle proves that there is a God. You can feel God's presence in Seattle. It's such a wonderful paradise, there are no words to describe the supernatural beauty of Federal Way, Tacoma, Redmond, Spokane. People are so nice and interesting, open minded, the traffic is the best in the world, and when it snows, they magically turn snow into diarrhea.

  • Old Seattle= Nazis.

  • I'm pretty mad that Sonic got bought out. I hope the Seahawks dont move.

  • Seattle reminds me so much of Vancouver ... they could be twin cities in many ways... i bet the "Texada Island vibes" is what has given Seattle it's "cool in the rain" thing !! ha ha!!! cheers !

  • @JeSuisMonAmiPourTu Vancouver's better.Hell,Canada's better than the US!

  • @anarksee yer not the 1st person who says that... i think tho 4 pple who live there they prolly would say the opposite...i dunno...i definatley LOOOOVE Canada in general... i've only been 2 the U.S. a few times...i liked it mostly tho ; all the times i went ; once 4 Disneyland ; once 4 Elton John; once 4 a friend who hadda date just cross the boarder and that's it so far... i needa go chase down Eminem & smuggle him back in2 Canada tho...have not done that

  • i love this song, video and i love my hometown of seattle

  • I love this Video

  • ha! i love kube93, i always listen to this in the car!

  • @castrewq The same damn songs all day for a three months;fuck KUBE!No swears and East Coast hip hop most of the time;extra-shitty!

  • @anarksee haha true dat

  • My dad worked at KUBE about this time, granted I would've been about 3 years old when this video was made, but we had the VHS tape and probably still do somewhere in my mom's basement. It was a staple for my sister and I growing up and both of us know the entire song from watching it so many times. xD

  • @BabyBebop

If you ever find it, how about uploading it? I'd like to see a a copy that doesn't have the ending chopped off.

  • @kobun37

I have the VHS of this and it is the whole video, nothing chopped off. Soon, I will be making attempts to get it from the VHS to a DVD and when I do so, I will upload it on youtube and give you the link. : )

  • I miss my old Seattle!

  • Your profile says you're from the bay area, another Californian who ruined the place bitching about how much it sucks, go the fuck home.

  • dont you have anything else to do other than waste your time on youtube and going on a video just to diss something. And why are you bringing a suicide rate? It doesnt prove anything. Just saying its a shit hole doesnt mean it is. If you want to prove it, then give us your "facts" or opinions. It's everone's opinion, its either they like seattle or not.

  • Seattle doesn't have a high suicide rate.but we were the first ones in the u.s to create a suicide hotline.we were the first to keep track of suicides.ITS A FACT! dont believe me? lets settle with,we're killing ourselves because we cant handle what cali has done to the beauti of our state.and we hate living with it. you cali's make us puke. we saw what you did financially to cali.your bankrupt! we'll be damned if your gonna do it here.FUCK OFF YOU CARPET BAGGER! i love my home of washington

  • Coming from Pennsylvania, I hate California too, I just think it's so over rated. I want to live in Seattle...

  • @MBigDaddyM I was born here. People move. Get over it, loser.

  • Leave then. Aint nobody holdin u hostage!!

  • All of the things I grew up with...

  • Comment removed

  • It's a lot different now than it was 20 years ago.

  • never been there but I love so many things about seattle.

  • i would like to have this song

  • I have been looking for this video for soo long, i am glad someone posted it! I am too young to know the name of the original song, so that's probably why it took so long to find this :) thanks!

  • why do they mention Olympia Beer instead of Rainier? And Paul Revere & the Raiders (from Idaho) and The Kingsmen (from Oregon) but not The Sonics? And Steve Miller's only tie to the area is mentioning "Tacoma" in a song, unless I'm missing something

  • Steve Miller lived in Seattle throughout the 80s.

I would guess the Sonics were left out because they were pretty much unknown outside the Northwest, unlike the other bands mentioned.

  • Rainier was sold to out of state ownership in the mid 70's (77 iirc) which caused a spike in still-local Olympia sales. Unfortunately Oly got sold out 5 or 8 years later. Both Paul Revere and the Kingsmen were well known touring nw band and Louie Louie first got airplay on Seattle radio stations, from where it went nationwide.

  • wow flashbacks. thanks. u know your nw old brews.

  • Emmett Watson and Ivar Haglund must be spinning their graves with what has happened to Seattle.

  • hahahaha ivar's is the shit

  • I agree with the yuppie metropolis comment. It's too bad, because Seattle is a beautiful city. Here's to hoping Portland does not suffer the same fate.

  • Wow. I had a teacher in fifth grade who had us listen VERY carefully to try to hear as many lyrics as possible so that she could put together a ditto from which we might sing it. It was YEARS before I heard the original WDSTF so when it didn't mention Husky Stadium collapsing I felt slighted.

  • I love Seattle though its diffrent then it was before. the arts in seattle have changed for the better u cant beat the feeling you get walking down the streets of seattle

  • they have good pot there

  • they should have added a lyric that went

'top shelf, santa's elf, kurt cobain done kill himself'

  • Topshelf? As in KISW's Topshelf? This was made in 1990, Toppy was 20! Who the hell was he then, not Topshelf. Santa's elf? it rhymes but what does it have to do with Seattle and the surrounding area. Kurt Cobain done killed himself? That was 1994, this was made in 1990, very few knew let alone gave shit who Cobain was.

  • hey who is that guy at 3:11-3:12"

  • Steve Largent

  • @MBigDaddyM Kurt Cobain was murdered.

  • Comment removed

  • This was done way before Kurt Cobain killed himself.

  • I live in Kent, 18 miles south of Seattle, Seattle is basically the same it has always been, minus the coffee.

  • Sonics.......Gone.

    Green River killer....Caught.

Wha Mee Club... Still locked up.

  • Lived in Seattle my entire life up until moving to the Midwest 4 months ago. This video brings back a lot of great childhood memories. Thank you for posting it .

  • I remember this. Thanks for the posting. This was Seattle's great days before the radical fringe took over the city politically. Now Seattle sucks.

  • You said it! Seattle used to be WAY better than it is now. Yuppie metropolis. Seattle lost it's pulse, after the Kingdome was blown up.

  • I know. I lived there for a long time. I remember the days when you had J.P. Patches, it was easier to drive the freeways, housing did not rip you off, and people would actually say "good morning" to you. I just hate the way Seattle has been transformed. It was just too painful to watch and so I had to move. I am glad Portland is not as bad.

  • "Charlie Brown new 93.3" Tom & the Hawks. Tom is of course Tom Hutlyer. He was doing middays on KUBE at the time he recorded this. He later went over to KPLZ(STAR 101.5) He bounces between KPLZ-FM & KOMO-AM.

  • Big Daddy is a GOD for posting this. The last copy known to exist.

  • I've got a copy of the video on a video tape, however it was a copy that was shown on an episode of "Evening Magazine" on KING-5 TV when Brian Tracey hosted the show back in the 80's/90's. One of these days I am going to have to see about making a digital copy of it from the tape.

  • I'm glad to see that this video has been put on the internet. I have a copy of it that I taped off "Evening Magazine" when Brian Tracey used to host the show on tv years ago in Seattle on KING-TV. I lived in Seattle for 17 years, but was not a native of the city.

  • Ahhhh... this just ROCKS the freakin' Casbah!! I remember this from the local radio years ago!! LOVE it!!! Thanks so much for posting!!

  • yaaay for Seattle.

  • I'm 90 miles North of Seattle. They need to make an upgraded version. This one is cool though.

  • Californias movin in!

ha ha... damn bastards!! Hail Ivar!!

  • Hell! They OWN the place now! Welcome to Seattle, California!

  • @KalebsArmy You took my comment. ;)

  • Great history of seattle done in a really funny way

  • Use to live in Seattle!

    Wow, this as 1989??

Ha...I remember this! Funny as Heck!

Yeah, KUBE use to be cool!

  • Didn't Almost Live with Ross Schaffer do this? Nirvana wasn't an item yet. Damn, Charlie Brown ( & Ty Flint) in the morning on KUBE '93 FM when radio was real! and the hits just keep on coming!

  • First Almost Live had nothing to do with this and second by the time this was made Schaffer was gone

  • Read the info section, you will find the answers you seek LOL!

  • dude they should've said something about Nirvana.

  • This is based upon We Didn't Start The Fire by Billy Joel which can be seen here: youtube . com/watch?v=rq3PVHVn0kE It was released in 1989, We Love It In Seattle was released shortly thereafter in 1990. Nirvana didn't become widely known until the release of Nevermind on 9.24.91 Besides Jimi Hendrix was mentioned and the guys in Nirvana couldn't tune his guitar!

  • I haven't heard this in years! Imagine an update: Safeco Field, EMP, Sonics want a new Key. If we lose the Viaduct, we are all sincerely fu... Uhh, scratch the update. hehe

  • So how do you feel about Gary Ridgway?

  • Hooray! I like!!!

  • OMG thank you so much for uploading this!

  • you have no idea how much this song has impacted my life. If ever i've thought of moving. I've always thought on it and this song came to mind. And i ended up singing it to myself over and over. I've looked everywhere for it. Thank you.

  • He did asshat!

  • It's right after 1:33

  • wow, that is horrible
