@philclassic - Actually the "Sa Gitna ng Dilim" rendition in the trailer is not a ChaCha but a bolero - and is still in keeping with the spirit of the habanera which is the tempo of harana. The master haranistas we interviewed for the film approved of this.
Excellent production - would love to see more of this and hopefully meet the author for future projects.... Have been in the US since 1966, studied Broadcast Arts, inspired to be among those promoting the Filipino image through the American medium - perhaps through the Public Broadcasting System... Would love to establish rapport with you - Florante Aguilar.... I'm Emil from Las Vegas, NV - emilcplv@yahoo.com
The title of the song Florante is playing on the boat is "Sa Gitna ng Dilim" by Constancio de Guzman. It is a classic harana song which Florante arranged in bolero style for solo guitar. It was originally recorded in the 1940s by Ruben Tagalog, the harana and kundiman king. This solo guitar version will be out in Florante's upcoming CD this Fall 2010.
Sir you're a great guitarist. hope to see more of your videos playing our music. This is a very nice footage. I love the way you render ikaw by mike velarde, sa kabukiran and the way I interpret the background in this trailer, ikaw ang nag-gigitara, napakalinis ng tipa, ang sarap pakingan.
Yes. Florante Aguilar is originally from Kawit, Cavite. Now based in San Francsico, California and promoting our Filipino music. He went back to Philippines in search of haranistas, and explore the beautiful yet dying music of Harana.Sana ay mapanood nyo ang docu-film once it is officially released.Truly,a pride of Cavite.
Really glad to see that this Harana trailer is now on youtube. I can send it to my FB friends. The production values of this documentary values are exceptionally good. Kudoes to the director Benito Bautista and the prodigious Florante Aguilar. I can't wait for the full-length movie to come out.
Mabuhay ka brad!
