  • I wouldn't say the chinese have longer OR shorter movements but their game is a lot more "compact" than the Europeans. Timo's game is also very compact though. Maybe thats one element to his ability to challenge them.

  • Is that Ding Ning at the end in the top corner? She doesn't even applaude for Zhang beating Boll there xD He wasn't really known back then was he?

  • The diference between the Chinese and the European players, is that the Europeans make longer movements, and the chinese shorter movements, so they are faster

  • @DimaKats2 actually no, the chinese make longer movements because they have sticky tabletennis rubbers. They make more than double the amount of training hours than the European, and have more players, that's why they're so much better. Zhang Jike is the only chinese player with relatively short moves.

  • @maxk880 that's actually not true. it just seems that way to lower rated players.

"longer movements" are better for control, spin, and power. but it takes a lot of good technique to be able to execute shots like that.

you'll start seeing it at 2500+ level.

  • @17teacmrocks watch ma lin's play dude. Just take the video in the suggestions, qatar open timo boll-ma lin. You'll see ma lin uses long movement on all his drives and loops

  • @DimaKats2 short moves are in chinese players theyre blood, it tells alot of him/her genitals

  • getting 41 thumbs up for spelling his name right =o

  • Even though he beats Boll in this clip, Zhang Jike has improved a lot since this match. His service are more complete, his return of service is lethal and his balance is not from this planet. His forehand is powerful and his flat/fast backhand is causing severe problems for even the Chinese. That is why he is the World Champion today.

  • i have beaten chinese player but he was not as zhang jike but he was chinese

  • nice game!

    Zhang Jike's backhand is awesome...

  • in the third set zhang jike was just toying wit him looool

  • Nice one shang jk

  • liking Zhang's Obama fist at the end

  • Zhang Jike is one of the very little amount of players who can actually play against Timo Boll I don't know why.

  • Ultimate Chinese people's ass-kicker!

  • Zhang Jike is Amazing!

  • what are u talking about kaxmisha ?? you're right that timo boll played like he normal do, but zhang jike, i haven't seen a video while he played any better than this. so it's some crap you're saying

    sry my english. :]

  • Rewatching this and knowing how good Zhang is now, it's kind of sad to realize that he pretty much played like crap, while Boll played up to his real level and still Zhang won, albeit narrowly.

  • what rubbers are they using? sounds very similar to speed glue, i know its not though.. they boost?

  • I think Timo's serves ain't winning him attacking side as much. He has strong power drives .Zhang has very fast drives. What Timo should have done was slow down the game game somehow. This could have prepared him for better power drive.

  • was that "WASSUP" @ 2:37?

  • Zhang Jike plays really good!

  • timo boll loses

  • zhang jike came back from being down 8-11, and 0-2, to winning 3-2. that is pretty sick. a lot of chinese players have this ability. i wonder where it comes from, mainly psychological or good basic form.

  • Theese chinese machines.... -.-

  • imo zhang jike looksl ike hes bad in longer rallies. hes better when the rallies are shorter, but when the rallies goes to 5-6 hits zhang jike has a lot of mistakes

  • So is th chinese player not hiding the ball with his body when serving. What is the rule there? How much are you allowed to hide it?

  • @masterpretender The ball must be visable to your apponent at the point of contact only. In other words as the bat and ball make contact you are not allowed to shield or hide the ball from your apponent, but before the point of contact it does not matter what you do. The penalty for shielding the ball on service is foul and the point is given against you. Hope this helps.

  • Seems that once Zhang's backhand fully warmed up, Boll had little chance.

  • @cukka99 ... it was 11-7 in the 7th im pretty sure boll had a good chance

  • Love the camera angle, especially how you get a dead-on frontal view / back view of the players. Makes learning off then easier ;]

  • Is it just me or do the two umpires look EXACTLY the same.

  • Would someone please put a bullet in the clapping guy

  • Somewhere during the middle of the clip I think Zhang's waist affected him, when it hurts he can barely feel his left side so he played a lot of stand in middle and try to use Boll's strike, already seen couple of times of that, but you don't know for sure.

  • Hmm..looks like zhang jike is more offensive then ma long...his drive and backhand cross court is a stroke...is quite peculiar to think that zhang jike is only around 175 whereas timo boll is around 180...should it be a correlation between height and stroke power european player should have gain the upper hand in speed...looks like china train their player to stroke as hard as possible....try look at the power of zhang jike stroke..compare to the more loopy nature of timo stroke

  • @88keyboard Especially in Chinese commentary, they're always focusing on the three things:

    - Quality of the shot, which usually means how deadly it is (force and power)

    - Variation of shots, placement and unpredictability

    - Pacing and rhythm, if you're off time, you're gone

If you're missing any of these three, gg. Better luck next time.

  • @Mythyrian

Nice comment! You can really see that Zhang Yike is good in these points. Some people think, Zhang Yike is not a spectacular player. I disagree! He is really calm, relaxed, got an extraordinary effective backhand technique, and his placement is so damn good. It looks so easy, but he is soooooooooo good!

  • wish i could tell what the score is...

  • TO FAVORITES

  • timo boll is ftw

  • fierce match

  • ma long is very interessted :D 2:32

    5* great match

  • You don`t often see Timo Boll loosing!

  • only a flippin idiot would say timo was past it, he is one of the most talented players in the world, hence why he's number 4 and arguably i would say IS better than ma lin. Timo can beat all the chinese, the only person in the world who can boast that fact, it wont happen but don't be surprised if he made it back to number 1

  • @jayjaymatt Of course, Timo is still a great player, the best european and he is capable of beating anybody in the world. But I don't really think he'll be back to number 1 in ITTF rankings and that's mainly because he's just not the best in the world and won't be. Top chinese players are better, and I mean both old stars ad the youngsters like Xu Xin and Zhang Jike.

  • Good match!

  • zhang jike has a nice powerful off the bounce backhand. disturbs the tempo of the opponents. and his forehand is great like most other chinese players.

just needs to work on the consistency of the big, long counter rallies but def a potential world champion in the future to come.

  • Boll simply shouldve won, like 5 matchpoints in 5th game, on top level you r not supposed to let that go (neither on any other level=))

  • Zhang Jike

  • The one who shouts "cho!" and fist pumps at the end. That's the basic rule.

  • timo is my favourite player, he's really good but chinese players are really sick, they're very good too -.-

  • In love with Zhang's playing style. Chen Qi with manners.

  • @BicolBandit

meh is was a bit of a dick in his match against Ma Lin.

    good player tho.

  • What a great match !!! Really explosive points, bad that BOLL lost but that's the game :p

  • He is really aggressive for both FH and BH. Has a lot fo potential in the future. His BH is not weaker than Kreanga's.

  • Timo you mean? He dont got much future, as in getting higher chances to win the olympics/world master titel as he is starting to get a little bit old:) a shame

  • NO! I was talking about Jike.

  • I supposed that's why he won the Qatar open and beat Hao Shuai and Ma Lin...

  • Zhang jike is 20th in ranking now.

  • this guy is very explosive.

  • dang its too bad that Timo Boll doesn't seem to be recovered. Even though my favorite players are Chinese, I still really like Timo Boll, and its just sad to see an athlete be injured. It seems to me that Boll's side to side movement is hella slow

  • Wtf zhang jike Could Be the new n#1 In table tennis..

  • yeah he has a ton of potential, he has the power of chen qi, but better technique so he isn't as inconsistent.

  • NOT??!! he came back stronger, only this match he lost. But 2 months later he won the qatar open in the semi final against hao shaui and in the final against ma lin!!

  • unfortunately timo didn't recover 100% from his injury/injuries :(

  • Where did you get these videos from Danish Open man?

  • oh man timo, bad luck, dont worry buddy, get ur back injury off and you'll be fine

  • Good to see the new blood from China doing well.

  • Where do you get your clips

  • Zhang has a really fast forehand. I have seen quite some matches from him now, and as soon as anyone tries to defend against him, he totally obliterates them with his extremely fast arm movement.

Thanks for posting these video's my polish buddy :p

  • nice match

  • he is talented.....but not as good as ma long of course

  • actually from several videos in Chinese I have watched where they are talking with Chinese coaches in Chinese during a game, I have heard several instances where the coaches specifically say that Zhang Jike has more potential than Ma Long. Ma Long is like my second favorite player, but according to the coaches, he power potential isn't as high as Zhang Jike's. Ma Long's game is more based on fast forehands and backhands that have flawless technique but not as much power as originally predicted

  • Wow, Jike is about as aggressive as Kreanga, but more consistent. Scary for the rest of the world!

  • zhang is a beast... 21 yr old.. same yr as ma long..

2nd best player in the chinese super league this yr after ma long...

  • Timo was leading 10-6 and 3-1 o_O

  • timo is back

  • boll wasn't in good shape at this time..

but great match, zhang jike became really good in the last year

  • Wasn't he coming off a back injury?

  • I don't know but it could be, Timo is often injured :(

  • boll...please make ur looping faster.....

  • what a great match. nice comeback from yike.

Boll seems to have so problems with yikes gameplay. he played a little bit shy at the end of the 5th set.

  • What is Boll yelling out when he wins a point?

    Josar? Yosar?

  • yosar~~~nice match

  • 5 stars

  • zhang is so strong. back from 10-6 down

  • great video!

zhang likes his BH down the line ;P

  • why Zhang is not in the national team? he is doing better than Xu Xin and some others :o

  • I think he is currently in the national team.

  • Zhang wins :o
