niccee! hey does anyone know the world record SUMO Deadlift (equipped)?? if so, how much weight and by who? i repeat, NOT CONVENTIONAL (ahem, not andy bolton)
sumo deadlift should be the king of all exercise because not only it uses all the muscles used for normal deadlift, but also activates the quads, so it's kinda like a crossover between squat and deadlift. Also ppl can do more with sumo than normal deadlift, which means their traps, grips, and hips will be much stronger than normal dead
Huge lifts man. Incredible lockout ability you have. What is your current 1RM? Looks like you will be a force in the deadlift in years to the come with those lifts.
@Hughes99999 Yes he does breathe... Holding your breath during a deadlift helps maintain posture and actually helps with the lifting. You let the air out at the top of the lift during lockout and breathe in before the lift.
Its more easy to do dead lifts with long arms like its more easy to bench with shorter arms.Real show of total all around power to all body types is a deep squats. There is no advantages with the body but raw power.Still good lift and nice video.
@shampoo02 Wouldn't shorter legs be an advantage for squats as you have less distance to move the weight? A 5 foot tall person and a 7 foot call person have a total of 4 feet difference in their squat, no? (2 feet in each direction)
@muerteverde Ya I can see that but when you look at it from this point of view , is that your only going 90 degree angle.Bench is all in your chest and tirceps.Where as you use all your body in squats.Deads to, but the angles differnt.Your pulling also.Sqauts to me are the most natural motion.
Very impressive! Props to you. I'm curious to see how your sumo develops and indeed if it helps. I would say most folks pull heavier with sumo but there are a few that do better with standard, like those with longer arms. Different mechanics.
From watching your videos, sumo has all the benefits it has for most people shorter ROM, more leg involvement, less back involvement. Check out video of Priscilla Ribic her back probably has less than 20 degrees of flexion from vertical.
And a humble tip I recently started sumo deads in my Titan Centurion NXG+, and it has helped off the floor quite a bit. I recall you havent used support suits in the past, but at some point in your training you may want to give this a try.
Impressive lift man, I did 370 for the first time last week. I want to get 405 for one, but 370 was extremely hard, so I guess I'll just keep working at it for a while. Maybe I'll be half as strong as u someday :p
sumo seems to suit you well. Have you ever tried deadlifting sumo in gear? I like to do most of my raw training conventional and switch to sumo when I put a suit on
O ok thanks. i dont no if you checked out any of my lifts or not but i am training for my first lifting meet comming up in a month and a half from now. my squats have improved i didnt have my camrea but i finnly squated 500. haha i no to you that chunk change. but hey im 19 what do you exspect lol.
very strong mike i like alote all the thing you do as a powerlifting and i wanted to know how old are you? keep the good work you will be a awesome powerliter for years to come ;)
Hey bro, impressive strength. I have a question for you. Do you think switching to sumo deadlifts from traditional deadlifts is a better way to add strength? I guess what I'm asking is; if I'm doing traditional deadlifting, and I hit a plateau, would switching to sumo be a good idea to lift heavier? Are the biomechanics better for sumo vs. traditional? I feel stronger traditional, but I heard that sumo deadlifts will add more weight over time if I convert. Any input would be appreciated
It depends. Sumo deadlifts won't always help conventional deadlifts, but sometimes they can depending on the lifter. That said, in most circumstances I DON'T think they will. I think your best bet is to 1) find the lift that suits your leverages the best biomechanically and 2) train that lift how it needs to be trained in order to improve. That's the best way to improve your deadlift over the long term. For more, check out the website link in the comments section of the video.
@Power275 im horrible at conventional deads. i used to do sumo rack pulls on the lowest pin setting and i used to be able to pull huge weights. im going to give sumos a try and see what i can do from the floor. my conventional rack pulls are garbage btw. i think im more built to pull with a wider stance.
@Soldus1 i know this is an old post but maybe your still wondering look up louie simmons of westside barbell hes a genious when it comes to strength training also training "wide" both sumo deadlift or wide stance squats will help tremendously with you conventional deadlifts and narrow stance squats training wide will help narrow training narrow wil only help narrow
