@Jonesr88 Not even similar. I too am a hunter and this is a disgrace. You're 1st shot is through a bush...not even a clean shot. You shouldn't of had to shoot it in the head twice...especially from that distance. The text book video of why I no longer slug hunter, so many idiots out. They hunt once a year and call themselves hunters...

Now just my opinion...Why are you using a shotgun?? Why not a rifle that will actually do the job?? If you are hunting for sport/the meat(which I truely hope you are) because if not thats not very respectful..My fiance is very big on the hunting scene and I am a very big animal lover but I do respect the fact that hunting has to happen due to over populating BUT he uses a 270 and for the most part 1 shot and they are down..I only see him use a shot gun with small game like grouse/rabbits etc...

@sheenanjerm this hunt is specifically a local population control shotgun hunt. Since it is so close quarters, rifles are not permitted due to the their long range. I use a 12guage with 1oz rifled slugs, which fire with a muzzle velocity of 1750 fps. They are hands down the most powerful close range weapon that I could use in this hunt, withing reason. I've shot 7 other deer in the past few years in this same hunt using 000 Buckshot without a problem. 1 shot one kill, however

@sheenanjerm ...as any hunter will tell you, some animals have an incredible will to live. This one simply did not want to die. When I field-dressed it, I found pieces of the slug all over and buckshot as well in the spine and lungs. By most reasonable thinking, it should have been dead. Regardless, I spent 6 hours tracking this deer down after wounding it. I will never let a wounded animal go.

FYI there are only a very small percentage of hunters who acually shoot out to 900 yards. An average rifle shot in my neck of the woods is about 100-200 yards. And there are plently of big bucks still roaming the area. Now I don't live in Iowa, but i'm assuming rifles are illegal bacause of a heavier human population?

I love to hunt, It is one of my passions! I have had very similar situations, but this event should be kept between you, and the wild animal! It should not be a public spectacle for viewers on YouTube to see. Just my opinion, and of coarse, I am fine if you disagree with it.

@rjs6215 I know exactly where you are coming from, and I put considerable thought into publishing this video for that reason, however, this is the first video of its kind. I decided that sharing this real life un-edited and un-rehearsed video was the better choice. This is one of very few videos that captures real life in a way that allows the viewer to almost "experience" the event, and although it does seem immoral in some ways, I feel that people should be able to see it. Thanks! = )
